BACKGROUND: Surgical management of chronic ear diseases, particularly middle ear cholesteatoma and chronic otitis media, often results in significant skin defects in the external auditory canal (EAC) and auricular region.
OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of xenogeneic acellular dermal matrix (xeno-ADM) in repairing ear skin defects following surgical resection of middle ear pathologies.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: A prospective cohort study was conducted from March 2024 to April 2025 at a single tertiary care center. One hundred and twelve consecutive patients with ear skin

Microtia with aural atresia presents a dual challenge-restoration of external ear anatomy and rehabilitation of conductive hearing loss. Multiple staged procedures are often required, increasing patient burden. This study presents a single-stage surgical approach combining auricular reconstruction using Porous High-Density Polyethylene (pHDPE, Medpor®) with simultaneous implantation of a Vibrant Soundbridge (VSB) and intraoperative audiological evaluation. To assess the surgical feasibility, safety, and postoperative cosmetic and audiological outcomes of a combined one-stage Medpor reconstruct

Background The external ear, due to its prominent anatomical position and complex three-dimensional (3D) cartilaginous framework, is particularly susceptible to traumatic injuries. There has been a rising incidence of partial and total auricular deformities resulting from road traffic accidents, assaults, human and animal bites, burns, and accidental falls. These injuries are often aesthetically conspicuous and psychologically distressing. Reconstruction of post-traumatic auricular defects poses significant challenges because of the need to restore bilateral symmetry, the limited availability

Background: Auricular carcinoma is a malignant neoplasm arising from the epithelial or adnexal tissues of the external ear, most commonly representing cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma, basal cell carcinoma, or, less frequently, melanoma, characterized by early cartilage invasion and regional spread due to the thin soft-tissue envelope of the ear. Such malignancies involve radical resection, producing wide defects, which require complex reconstructive approach. Case Presentation and Methods: We describe a 45-year-old male patient who presented with a basal cell carcinoma, affecting the lobulus

Several benign and malignant tumors can be observed on the skin of the external ear at various ages, and some are specifically located in this area. Large lesions can be disfiguring and impair hearing by obstructing the external auditory canal. They can also cause chronic ulcerations and, in some cases, secondary destruction of underlying cartilage. The management of some external ear tumors requires a multidisciplinary approach. Being aware of the rich clinical spectrum of auricular tumors enables early diagnosis, preventing the need for more aggressive surgery with accompanying undesirable c

BACKGROUND: Standardized surgical approaches to advanced pre-auricular cutaneous squamous cell carcinomas (cSCC) are lacking.
METHODS: Fifty-four patients who underwent lateral temporal bone resection (LTBR) for pre-auricular cSCC were grouped into "Levels" of increasing disease spread. Surgical approaches to achieve negative-margin resection were designed for each Level and replicated on cadaveric specimens.
RESULTS: Level 1 extended to the external auditory canal, requiring LTBR ± superficial parotidectomy. Level 2 involved the retromandibular space ± temporomandibular joint, necessitating

OBJECTIVE: This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of a three-stage auricular reconstruction using double tissue expanders for patients with congenital microtia who have undergone prior aural atresia repair. The focus is on addressing the challenges posed by hypertrophic scar tissue at the opening of the external auditory canal, which complicates subsequent auricular reconstruction.
METHODS: Sixteen patients with unilateral congenital microtia and previous aural atresia repair were retrospectively reviewed. All patients underwent a three-stage auricular reconstruction with double tissue expa

Giant recurrent auricular keloids, particularly those complicated by donor-site involvement, present significant therapeutic challenges due to aggressive fibroblast biology and high recurrence rates. We report a complex case of a 15-year-old female who developed a massive recurrent auricular keloid with associated abdominal donor-site keloid following otoplasty and subsequent skin grafting. Initial otoplasty at age 10 was complicated by keloid formation, requiring excision and abdominal full-thickness grafting. By age 15, she presented with a recurrent auricular keloid causing auricular deform

AIM: This case report aims to highlight the application of a computed tomography (CT)-guided, digitally designed workflow for implant-retained auricular prosthetic rehabilitation in a patient with traumatic ear loss.
BACKGROUND: Implant-retained auricular prostheses require highly precise implant positioning for optimal retention and esthetics. Advances in virtual surgical planning, combined with radiographic imaging and implant planning software, now enable a prosthetically driven, patient-specific approach.
CASE DESCRIPTION: A 45-year-old male with right auricular loss from childhood traum

Trichoblastoma(TB) is a rare germ cell skin adnexal tumor of the hair, and it is a rare follicular tumor of the skin that differentiates from the hair germ epithelium and is often regarded as a benign skin tumorHowever, it is poorly confined and has a local infiltrative growth pattern. tb occurs in the head and neck region, especially in the face, and presents clinically as a slow growing, well-defined and elevated nodule. TB is routinely treated surgically. Due to the lack of universally accepted treatment guidelines or protocols, the recurrence rate after surgery is high, which makes clinica

BACKGROUND: Hemifacial microsomia (HFM) is a rare congenital malformation characterized by a combination of various anomalies, including the face, ears, eyes, and vertebrae. Prenatal diagnosis for HFM is possible, and quite accurate ultrasound can detect obvious defects. The etiology is still unknown, although some hypotheses have been proposed, including gene mutation, chromosome anomaly, and environmental risk factors. However, there are few reports of pulmonary hypoplasia and dextrocardia in HFM.
CASE SUMMARY: A 2-year-old boy presented to the ear reconstruction department of our hospital

This article investigates an effective method with which to reconstruct the tragus and external auditory meatus for microtia reconstruction. The external ear was reconstructed using a delayed postauricular skin flap in patients with congenital microtia. After the first stage of delaying the postauricular skin flap and the second stage of otoplasty with ear framework fabricated from autogenous rib cartilage draping with the delayed skin flap, the third stage involved tragus and external auditory meatus canaloplasty. After designing the remnant auricle flap, the lower part was trimmed and the tr
