Mitochondria affect antibacterial immunity in cross talk with innate immune response molecules coded by genes of nuclear origin.

INTRODUCTION: Mitochondria are dynamic, semi-autonomous organelles that, in addition to their central role in ATP production, regulate calcium homeostasis, iron metabolism, apoptosis, and innate immune signalling. Although the mitochondrial genome encodes only 37 genes, mitochondrial architecture, bioenergetic function, and dynamics are governed predominantly by nuclear-encoded proteins, necessitating highly coordinated communication between mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) and the nuclear genome. Disruption of this bidirectional mitochondrial-nuclear crosstalk has been increasingly implicated in the

Association between Heterakis dispar infections and concurrent diseases in reproductive geese: A retrospective necropsy study.

Heterakis infection, caused by small nematodes that inhabit the caeca, is one of the most frequently reported parasitic infections in poultry. Despite its prevalence, the impact of Heterakis spp. on avian health remains inconsistently described. This study retrospectively analysed the association between Heterakis dispar infection and other diseases in farmed geese. Among 194 necropsied reproductive geese from 2015 to 2023, 143 were found to be infected with Heterakis dispar, whereas 51 were not. In geese with caecal nematodes, bacterial infection was the dominant cause of death (89.5 %). Peri

Mitochondrial cytochrome b motif architecture predicts host-specific genomic vulnerability across vertebrate species.

Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) plays a pivotal role in cellular bioenergetics, immune regulation, and evolutionary adaptation, making it a uniquely informative genomic system for studying host-pathogen interactions. The cytochrome b (cyt b) gene, one of the most conserved mitochondrial protein-coding loci, is widely recognized for its utility in species identification, phylogenetics, and molecular evolution [1-3]. However, its potential role in shaping comparative host susceptibility to infectious diseases remains underexplored. In this study, we re-analyzed PCR-RFLP-derived mitochondrial cyt b res
