Plasma proteomic signature of the human menstrual cycle.

The menstrual cycle is one of the most fundamental biological rhythms in human physiology, yet its systemic molecular changes remain poorly understood. Here we show that the menstrual cycle is accompanied by widespread changes in the circulating proteome. By profiling nearly 3,000 plasma proteins in 2,760 women from the UK Biobank, we identified 198 proteins that vary across the cycle, forming distinct temporal patterns aligned with menstrual phases. These proteins include reproductive hormones, cytokines and growth factors, many of which are enriched in endometrial tissue and expressed in epi

Proactive Management of Gestational Hypertension in a Patient With Uterine Fibroids: A Case Report.

The coexistence of uterine fibroids and gestational hypertension (GH) presents a high-risk obstetric scenario associated with adverse maternal-fetal outcomes. We present the case of a 27-year-old primigravida diagnosed with a 22 × 28 mm anterior uterine fibroid at 8 weeks' gestation, which enlarged to 52 × 48 mm by 29 weeks. At 21 weeks' gestation, she developed new-onset GH (blood pressure 150/98 mmHg) without proteinuria. Her management included prophylactic low-dose aspirin (75 mg daily), methyldopa (250 mg twice daily), and structured home blood pressure monitoring. When her blood pressure

Hormone-dependent mitochondrial resilience in leiomyoma cells exposed to oxidative stress.

Uterine leiomyomas persist and grow within a chronically pro-oxidant environment despite reduced antioxidant capacity, suggesting the existence of adaptive stress-tolerance mechanisms. Although estrogen and progesterone are well-established regulators of leiomyoma growth, their roles in coordinating mitochondrial function under oxidative stress remain poorly defined. Here, we investigated how estrogen and progesterone receptor signaling modulate oxidative stress-induced transcriptional programs and mitochondrial metabolic responses in uterine leiomyoma cells. Primary patient-derived leiomyoma

Perimenopausal hot flashes do not depend on crude circulating oestradiol levels: further evidences from women treated with oral GnRH antagonists combination therapy for symptomatic fibroids.

PURPOSE: Some perimenopausal women treated for fibroid-related bleeding may already experience hot flashes. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this pilot case series, we evaluated the effect of relugolix combination therapy (relugolix 40 mg + oestradiol 1 mg + norethisterone acetate 0.5 mg) on hot flashes and endocrine parameters in seven perimenopausal women. RESULTS: All women reported a marked improvement (visual analogue scale: 8.6 ± 1.0) of hot flashes, while treatment significantly suppressed FSH (p = 0.004), LH (p = 0.002) and oestradiol (p = 0.002) serum levels. CONCLUSIONS: These preliminar

The impact of endocrine-disrupting chemicals on uterine diseases.

Endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) are a global concern for human health and the environment. EDCs include plasticizers, pharmaceutical agents, industrial chemicals, fungicides, and pesticides. Thus, EDC exposure is a manmade consequence in our current lives. More than 1,000 chemicals are classified as EDCs, which can interfere with any aspect of the endocrine system, resulting in reproductive disorders, metabolic dysfunctions, cardiovascular diseases, neurological and immune defects, and cancers. Because EDCs affect steroid hormone regulation, there are crucial associations between EDCs an

Successful pregnancy via assisted reproductive technology following combined high-intensity focused ultrasound, ethanol injection, and GnRH agonist therapy for refractory uterine fibroids: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Refractory and recurrent uterine fibroids present complex therapeutic challenges, particularly in patients who desire fertility preservation. Clinical management must balance multiple competing risks: preserving reproductive potential, preventing oestrogen-stimulated regrowth during assisted reproduction, and avoiding complications from repeated surgical interventions. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We report a challenging case of a woman with multiple recurrent refractory uterine fibroids and associated infertility. The patient underwent two prior open myomectomies followed by four sessi

MRI features of nipple leiomyoma in a male patient: A case report.

Nipple leiomyoma is a benign cutaneous tumor that arises from the smooth muscle fibers of the musculus areolae and represents the rarest subtype of cutaneous leiomyoma. Since its first description by Virchow in 1854, approximately 50 cases have been reported, with only 20 involving male patients. Imaging findings, particularly the MRI characteristics, have been insufficiently documented. We report a man in his 70s with a 10-year history of left nipple pain. Ultrasonography revealed a mildly irregular hypoechoic mass with increased vascularity. MRI demonstrated a well-defined, smoothly marginat

Telemedicine follow-up improves early detection of ovarian dysfunction after uterine artery embolization: a retrospective cohort study.

OBJECTIVE: Uterine artery embolization (UAE) for fibroids may cause ovarian dysfunction, particularly concerning for reproductive-aged women. This study evaluated whether a structured telemedicine follow-up protocol enhances timely identification of early-stage ovarian dysfunction compared to traditional outpatient care, thereby expanding the therapeutic intervention window. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study analyzed 232 women aged 18–40 who underwent UAE at Fujian Maternity and Child Health Hospital (December 2020–2023). Participants were assigned to WeChat telemedicine platform (n = 1

The Air-Cleft Sign: Imaging and Histopathologic Findings in 7 Cases of Pulmonary Benign Metastasizing Leiomyomatosis.

PURPOSE: Benign metastasizing leiomyomatosis (BML) is a rare complication of uterine leiomyoma and most often develops following uterine surgery. Pulmonary BML usually follows a benign clinical course and is often encountered incidentally, but may manifest clinical symptoms or even hypoxic respiratory failure in patients with large tumor burdens. In this paper, we present the "air-cleft sign," a potentially useful and previously unreported CT finding in pulmonary BML patients with larger pulmonary nodules. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We queried the electronic medical record and picture archiving a

Segmentation of uterus and myoma from MRI image based on deep learning.

OBJECTIVE: Myoma is a common gynecologic condition with abnormal muscular and fibrotic tissue growth in the uterus. Compared with sonography, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) provides more detailed information with a better diagnostic accuracy. However, the interpretation of the imagery is shrewdness- and experience-dependent. The therapeutic strategy of myoma can be directly affected by the relative location and size in the uterus. Hence, this study aimed to generate an objective standardized modality in interpreting the imagery. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Deep learning (DL) was used to train tw

Identification of the key immune and inflammatory related gene CALCRL as diagnostic biomarker in differentiating uterine leiomyosarcoma from leiomyoma.

BACKGROUND: Uterine leiomyosarcoma (ULMS) is a highly malignant tumor with a poor prognosis. This study aims to explore the potential and significance of novel immune and inflammation-related diagnostic biomarkers in differentiating ULMS from uterine leiomyomas (ULM). METHODS: We analyzed 25 samples of ULMS and 25 samples of ULM from the GEO database (GSE64763). Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified using R software. Different Inflammation- and immunity-related genes (DIIRGs) were derived by intersecting with immune-related and inflammation-related gene sets. Functional enrich

Perioperative inflammatory response as a determinant of post-myomectomy intrauterine adhesion formation.

BACKGROUND: Intrauterine adhesions (IUAs), or Asherman's syndrome, are a common complication of intrauterine surgery (e.g. hysteroscopic myomectomy) that can lead to menstrual disturbances and infertility. Excessive postoperative inflammation is thought to drive adhesion formation, but the predictive value of specific inflammatory biomarkers remains unclear. METHODS: We performed a prospective observational study of 150 women (age 19-45) undergoing hysteroscopic submucosal fibroid resection. Serum C-reactive protein (CRP), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) were measure

Case Report: A rare case of breast leiomyoma with literature review.

Breast leiomyoma is a rare benign mesenchymal tumor that typically manifests as a solitary, slow-growing mass. This article presents a case of a 58-year-old female with a history of follicular lymphoma confirmed by pathological examination of resected lymph nodes in November 2019. Follow-up positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET-CT) revealed a breast soft-tissue mass initially classified as likely benign. Subsequent chest computed tomography (CT) in May 2024 demonstrated enlargement of the lesion, raising suspicion of lymphomatous infiltration. The mammogram shows an irregular m
