Evaluation of tissue stiffness: A deeper insight into the nature of uterine leiomyomas and its possible clinical applications.

Uterine leiomyomas are benign gynecologic tumors that occur in approximately 80% of women of reproductive age. Although often asymptomatic, these tumors may, in some cases, require gynecologic intervention. Conventional imaging tools, such as ultrasonography (US) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), are most commonly used to guide treatment selection. However, none of these methods provides definitive criteria for qualifying patients for medical, non-invasive, or surgical therapy. Therefore, there is a pressing need to develop innovative tools that improve the evaluation of uterine masses and

Unravelling the structural impact of progesterone receptor mutations in myoma and progesterone intolerance through computational modeling.

Progesterone (P4) is a steroid hormone involved in the regulation of female reproductive functions. The endogenous progesterone receptor (PR), a member of the nuclear receptor family of ligand-dependent transcription regulators responsible for P4 action in the body through the 'ligand binding domain' (LBD). PR isoforms, PR-A and PR-B, are encoded by a single gene, PGR and variations in this gene can disrupt cellular signaling. In the current study, putative disease-causing mutations on PR has been identified through computationally and its mechanistic effects were explored using structural bio

Large-scale analysis of chromosomal aberrations in uterine leiomyoma.

BACKGROUND: Chromosomal aberrations in tumors are key indicators of genomic instability and important drivers of neoplasia. While chromosomal changes in uterine leiomyomas have been studied for decades, comprehensive evaluation of chromosomal aberrations in uterine leiomyomas on the scale of modern tumor research has been lacking. OBJECTIVE: To comprehensively characterize somatic chromosomal aberrations in uterine leiomyoma, providing a missing layer of stratified data for research toward detailed understanding of the genesis of this important tumor type. STUDY DESIGN: In this retrospective

Late-onset pulmonary benign metastasizing leiomyoma 3 decades after hysterectomy: A case report.

Uterine leiomyomas are the most common benign tumors of the female reproductive tract. In rare cases, they may disseminate beyond the pelvis without malignant features, a condition known as benign metastasizing leiomyoma (BML). The lungs are the most frequent site of involvement, typically appearing years after hysterectomy. We report a 74-year-old woman with a history of hysterectomy at age 43 who underwent resection of a pelvic mass in 2022, which was diagnosed as a cellular leiomyoma. In 2025, surveillance imaging revealed a multilobulated pelvic mass and multiple bilateral solid pulmonary

A case of retroperitoneal giant leiomyoma and literature review.

Retroperitoneal fibroids are a rare condition that is often misdiagnosed preoperatively. It typically occurs in women with a history of hysterectomy or myomectomy for benign uterine smooth muscle tumors. In this case report, we present the case of a 50-year-old woman who presented with discomfort in the right perineal area. Imaging showed a large retroperitoneal tumor. The patient underwent robotic-assisted laparoscopic surgery to remove the mass, which was confirmed by histopathological analysis to be a uterine smooth muscle tumor of undetermined malignant potential (STUMP). The patient had n

Aggressive (Deep) Angiomyxoma of the Female Pelvis and Perineum Presenting as a Large Pelvic Organ Prolapse.

Aggressive angiomyxoma (AA) is a rare, benign but locally invasive mesenchymal tumor arising from myxoid connective tissue, predominantly affecting women of reproductive age. Its clinical presentation is often nonspecific, frequently mimicking other pelvic or perineal pathologies, which leads to delayed diagnosis. We report an exceptional case of AA presenting as a massive, irreducible pelvic organ prolapse. A healthy multiparous woman in her 40s presented to a Urogynecology Consultation with a 6-year history of a progressively enlarging perineal mass, initially interpreted as a complete pelvi

Case Report: An extremely rare case of epithelioid STUMPs.

INTRODUCTION: Uterine leiomyomas are the most common benign tumors of the female reproductive system. Epithelioid STUMP is a special and relatively rare type of uterine leiomyoma that may exhibit malignant potential as smooth muscle tumors with an epithelioid cell morphology are generally believed to be more aggressive than usual leiomyomas. This report describes a case of epithelioid STUMP. CASE DESCRIPTION: A 45-year-old woman of childbearing age underwent curettage for abnormal uterine bleeding. The initial pathological findings suggested a low-grade malignant uterine mesenchymal tumor; th
