TikTok, YouTube, and Bilibili as sources of information on uterine fibroids: A content and quality analysis.

Uterine fibroids, the most common monoclonal benign tumors of the uterine smooth muscle, show an increasing incidence with age. Currently, social media platforms such as TikTok, YouTube, and Bilibili are increasingly becoming important channels for disseminating health information. However, the quality and reliability of content related to uterine fibroids on these platforms are often unsatisfactory. This study aims to systematically evaluate the quality and content characteristics of uterine fibroid-related videos on 3 major short-video platforms - TikTok, YouTube, and Bilibili - using valida

Giant pedunculated submucosal leiomyoma mimicking a cervical mass in a postmenopausal woman . a rare case report.

UNLABELLED: Uterine leiomyomas are common benign smooth muscle tumors predominantly affecting women of reproductive age. In postmenopausal women, they are rare due to the hypoestrogenic state, which usually leads to fibroid regression. Pedunculated submucosal leiomyomas prolapsing through the cervix into the vagina are rare, especially in postmenopausal women, and may mimic cervical or vaginal masses, posing diagnostic and therapeutic challenges particularly in low-resource settings. CASE PRESENTATION: Here we present a rare case of a 56-year-old, P4L4, 8 years postmenopausal woman from North

Giant prolapsed uterine leiomyoma causing acute urinary retention and severe anemia: a case report and review of the literature.

INTRODUCTION: Uterine leiomyomas are common benign tumors that rarely present with severe complications. Acute urinary retention (AUR) is an exceptional initial symptom from mechanical obstruction. Profound anemia without reported menorrhagia is also atypical, resulting from a giant, prolapsed fibroid undergoing ischemic necrosis, leading to surface ulceration and chronic blood loss. We report a case of a giant prolapsed leiomyoma presenting with this rare combination of AUR and severe anemia. CASE PRESENTATION: A 44-year-old, para 6, woman presented with a 1-month history of AUR. Examination

Factors associated with hysterectomy after failure of levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system treatment in women with abnormal uterine bleeding.

BACKGROUND: Abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) is a common gynecological condition with a significant impact on women’s quality of life and public health. Although the levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system (LNG-IUS) is an effective first-line treatment, a subset of women ultimately require hysterectomy. The demographic, clinical, ultrasonographic, and histopathological factors associated with LNG-IUS treatment failure remain insufficiently understood. METHODS: This retrospective descriptive study included 233 women diagnosed with AUB who underwent LNG-IUS (Mirena®) insertion between Novemb

Characteristics of transferrin saturation and anemia-related biomarkers in patients with uterine adenomyosis.

BACKGROUND: Ferritin may be elevated as an acute-phase reactant in inflammatory conditions, potentially masking iron deficiency. We aimed to evaluate the frequency of iron deficiency and the diagnostic significance of transferrin saturation (TSAT) in women with uterine adenomyosis. METHODS: This retrospective study included non-menopausal women aged 30-55 years who had iron metabolism markers measured at first visit. Anemia was defined as hemoglobin (Hb) <11 g/dL. Iron deficiency was defined using three criteria: ferritin-only (serum ferritin <20 ng/mL), TSAT-only (TSAT <20%), and a combined

Recurrence and related factors associated with uterine leiomyoma following laparoscopic myomectomy: a meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: There is still no clear consensus on long-term follow-up data for uterine leiomyoma (UL) recurrence and the major risk factors for recurrence after UL resection. This study aimed to investigate UL recurrence and related factors after laparoscopic myomectomy (LM). METHODS: The local and international literature on UL recurrence rates and related factors after LM was systematically collected, with the search period up to December 31st, 2024. Stata 16.0 software was used for meta-analysis. Pooled odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated using a random-eff

Recent advances in progesterone receptor-targeted therapy for uterine fibroids: A systematic review of synthetic and natural modulators.

Progesterone receptor (PR) signaling plays a pivotal role in uterine fibroids (UFs) development and progression. Selective progesterone receptor modulators (SPRMs) and plant-derived PR modulators have emerged as promising therapeutic strategies. This review synthesizes current evidence on novel synthetic SPRMs and natural compounds with PR-modulating activity. Following the PRISMA guidelines, literature searches in PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar identified 22 studies that met the eligibility criteria. Synthetic SPRMs act mainly through PR antagonism, with differences in receptor selectivit

Renal sinus leiomyoma mimicking papillary renal cell carcinoma: A case report.

Renal leiomyomas are rare benign tumors that predominantly affect women in their 40s and 50s. Here, we report a case of renal leiomyoma originating from the renal sinus of a woman in her 30s. The lesion was incidentally discovered on abdominal magnetic resonance imaging as a 4 cm, well circumscribed mass with smooth margins located in the right renal sinus. Dynamic contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) revealed homogenous and progressive enhancement, while T2-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) demonstrated uniformly low signal. Although imaging findings suggested a renal sinus tumo

Outcomes of laparoscopic myomectomy for large and high-order fibroids: a single-centre service evaluation.

BACKGROUND: Ethnic minority patients experience a higher uterine fibroid disease burden and reduced access to minimally invasive myomectomy. Restrictive selection criteria may disproportionately exclude these patients from laparoscopic surgery. METHODS: This was a prospective service-evaluation database analysed retrospectively, including all conventional (non-robotic) laparoscopic myomectomies performed between January 2004 and December 2024 at a single UK university hospital. Primary outcomes were estimated blood loss (EBL), length of hospital stay (LOS) and operating time. Secondary outcom

Insights on Medical Therapy for Uterine Fibroids: A Review.

Uterine fibroids constitute the most prevalent benign neoplasms within the female reproductive system, impacting a substantial proportion of women by the age of 50 years. While a significant number of these tumors remain asymptomatic, they have the potential to induce abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB), pelvic discomfort, pain, anemia, and infertility, thereby considerably diminishing the quality of life. Pharmacological intervention occupies a pivotal position in the management of fibroids, particularly for individuals who desire to preserve uterine function, postpone surgical intervention, or o

Uterine leiomyoma mimicking a gastrointestinal stromal tumor: a diagnostic pitfall of CD117 positivity - case report and review of the literature.

BACKGROUND: Uterine leiomyomas are the most common benign tumors of the female genital tract. They are usually easily recognized based on clinical and imaging findings. However, in rare cases, atypical presentations can mimic intra-abdominal mesenchymal tumors such as gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs), leading to potential diagnostic confusion. Immunohistochemical overlap, particularly focal CD117 (c-Kit) expression in smooth-muscle tumors, can further complicate the distinction between these entities. CASE PRESENTATION: We report the case of a 37-year-old woman presenting with progressi

Inflammatory cytokine signatures predict postoperative intrauterine adhesions after hysteroscopic fibroid resection: Evidence from a prospective cohort.

BACKGROUND: Intrauterine adhesions (IUAs), or Asherman's syndrome, are common complications of intrauterine surgery, such as hysteroscopic myomectomy, leading to menstrual disturbances and infertility. Postoperative inflammation is thought to drive adhesion formation, but the predictive value of specific inflammatory biomarkers remains unclear. METHODS: We conducted a prospective observational study of 150 women aged 19-45 years undergoing hysteroscopic resection of submucosal fibroids. Serum C-reactive protein (CRP), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) levels were measu
