Pregnancy After Laparoscopic Radiofrequency Ablation: A Case Report.

BACKGROUND: Laparoscopic radiofrequency ablation (RFA) has garnered popularity as a promising uterus-sparing option for the management of leiomyomas. However, data on fertility and reproductive outcomes, particularly rare complications such as uterine rupture, remain limited. CASE: Twenty-nine-year-old G0 patient with infertility underwent uncomplicated laparoscopic RFA of a 1.18×1.33-cm anterior fundal intramural leiomyoma. She conceived spontaneously 2 years later and presented at 17 weeks of gestation with an anterior fundal uterine rupture, which was repaired successfully. Patient underwe

Accuracy of Ultrasound in Estimating Uterine Fibroid Size: A Correlative Study With Intraoperative Findings.

Background Uterine fibroids are the most common benign tumors of the female reproductive tract and frequently require surgical management. Accurate preoperative estimation of fibroid size is essential for selecting the optimal surgical approach, anticipating operative complexity, and improving surgical outcomes. Ultrasonography remains the most widely used first-line imaging modality because of its accessibility, cost-effectiveness, and noninvasive nature. However, its ability to accurately reflect true intraoperative fibroid size may vary. Objective To evaluate the accuracy of preoperative ul

Derivation of three occupational status measures in young Black women: the study of environment, lifestyle, and fibroids.

Socioeconomic Status (SES), a complex, multidimensional construct, is commonly assessed using education or combinations of education, income, and/or occupation. Though epidemiological studies tend to collect occupational data, focus on occupation-based SES measures has been limited. We describe a method to process and derive occupational status measures and then compare them for application in epidemiological research. Using US Census Bureau's Industry and Occupational Codes to standardize self-reported baseline occupational and industry data for 1053 Black/African American participants in the

Occupational exposures among hairdressers and the occurrence of hormone-related conditions.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the association between hairdresser exposures and hormone-related conditions. METHODS: Using data from 50 800 eligible Sister Study participants (enrolled 2003-2009, aged 35-74 years), we estimated ORs and 95% CIs for associations between ever working as a hairdresser (n=1803) and prevalent fibroids, endometriosis, hysterectomy and oophorectomy. We estimated HRs and 95% CI for incident fibroids, endometriosis, breast, uterine and ovarian cancers among ever hairdressers versus never hairdressers. We also examined associations of hormone-related diseases and profession

Is there a role for radiofrequency and assisted reproductive technology?

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: The purpose of this study is to review the current evidence on the efficacy and safety of transvaginal radiofrequency ablation (TRFA) for the treatment of uterine fibroids and adenomyosis in infertile women, and to assess its feasibility as a fertility-preserving alternative to myomectomy. RECENT FINDINGS: TRFA induces coagulative necrosis of fibroid tissue, achieving a 60-70% reduction in fibroid volume within 1 year while preserving uterine anatomy. Recent studies report pregnancy rates comparable to those of the general population, achieved through both spontaneous conce

Dairy Intake and Uterine Fibroid Development: A Prospective Study.

BACKGROUND: Dairy intake has been associated with lower fibroid incidence in some studies, but none used standardized serial ultrasound screening to detect fibroids. METHODS: We examined dairy intake and fibroid development in the Study of Environment, Lifestyle and Fibroids, a prospective cohort (2010-2018) of 1,610 Black/African American women with no prior clinical diagnosis of fibroids. At the baseline, participants completed a Food Frequency Questionnaire about their intake of daily milk, cheese, yogurt, and total dairy. At three follow-up visits, conducted approximately every 20 months,

Distribution of Mast Cells in Uterine Leiomyoma: A Hospital-Based Observational Study.

Introduction Mast cells are immune cells of the myeloid lineage present in connective tissues that regulate various physiological processes. The human uterus is relatively rich in mast cells. Uterine fibroids are the most common benign tumors, originating in the myometrium. However, there is no consensus regarding the prognostic role of mast cells in the uterus. Hence, further study is necessary for clarifying the relationship between the distribution of mast cells and various conditions of the myometrium. Aims and objectives The objective of this study was to quantify mast cell density in ute

Postmenopausal Enlargement of a Presumed Leiomyoma Revealing STUMP: A Diagnostic Pitfall with Important Clinical Implications-A Case Report.

Background and Clinical Significance: Uterine smooth muscle tumors range from benign leiomyomas to highly aggressive leiomyosarcomas. Smooth muscle tumors of uncertain malignant potential (STUMP) represent an intermediate and diagnostically challenging category defined by borderline or discordant histological features. Their clinical management remains complex due to limited possibilities for reliable preoperative differentiation and the absence of clearly established surveillance protocols. The situation becomes particularly sensitive in postmenopausal patients, in whom tumor growth or abnorm

Hysteroscopic myomectomy for FIGO type 3 uterine fibroids with diameter not less than 5 cm: a retrospective, single-center study of eighteen cases.

BACKGROUND: Hysteroscopic myomectomy is a preferred treatment for women requiring future fertility. While it was difficult to manage large submucosal fibroids or deep intramural invasion myomas with hysteroscopic approaches. We conducted this study to explore the feasibility of hysteroscopic removal of large sized (≥ 5 cm) FIGO type 3 fibroids with deep intramural invasion that are difficult to manage with one-step hysteroscopy by "downgrading" technique. METHODS: This retrospective study included of hysteroscopic myomectomy from February 2023 to September 2025 in an academic university hospi

Adenomatoid Tumor of the Uterus With Marked Nuclear Atypia: A Case Report Including Next-Generation Sequencing Analysis and Review of the Literature.

Adenomatoid tumor is a rare benign neoplasm of mesothelial origin occurring in various anatomical locations, including the uterus. In this article, we describe an adenomatoid tumor of the uterus exhibiting severe nuclear atypia in the clinical context of long-term hormone therapy. The patient was a 51-year-old woman who underwent total abdominal hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy for uterine leiomyomas. Gross evaluation of the uterus revealed multiple intramural and subserosal unencapsulated nodules that were both well and poorly circumscribed and measured from 4 to 25 mm. Micro

Fibroids and infertility.

The presence of uterine fibroids impacts fertility through multiple mechanisms. While subserosal fibroids have minimal impact, especially when of reduced size, the presence of intramural fibroids impacts both the likelihood of pregnancy and its outcomes. Submucosal fibroids significantly reduce the chance of pregnancy and increase pregnancy complications. While noninvasive techniques can treat fibroids and appear safe, surgical management of FIGO Type 0, 1, 2, and 3 fibroids remains the gold standard in women desiring pregnancy. Uterine artery embolization is not recommended. Where the ovaries

Trans-Endometrial Cesarean Myomectomy for a Large Anterior Lower-Segment Intramural Fibroid Preventing Hysterotomy Closure.

Cesarean myomectomy has traditionally been avoided because of hemorrhage risk, but removal at cesarean delivery (CD) may be required when a fibroid distorts the lower uterine segment or prevents secure hysterotomy closure. A 35-year-old primigravida with fetal growth restriction at 38 + 2 weeks' gestation had a large anterior intramural fibroid in the lower uterine segment. Intraoperatively, the fibroid caused distortion and traction along the hysterotomy line, and prevented approximation of the myometrial edges, precluding secure closure without excision. A trans-endometrial myomectomy was pe

Giant Fat-Predominant Uterine Lipoleiomyoma Mimicking a Pure Lipoma: A Multimodality Imaging Case Report.

Uterine lipoleiomyoma is a rare benign lipomatous variant of leiomyoma composed of mature adipose tissue and smooth muscle fibers. Fat-predominant variants are uncommon and may closely resemble pure uterine lipoma on imaging. We report the case of a 44-year-old woman presenting with progressive lower abdominal fullness. Ultrasonography, computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) demonstrated a large intramural fat-containing lesion arising from the uterine fundus with subtle internal soft tissue strands and no suspicious malignant features. Multiple smaller intramural fibro

Novel Intraoperative Transvaginal Ultrasonographic Needle Guidance in Laparoscopic Excision of Elusive Intramural Myomas: Enhancing Precision, Minimizing Hemorrhage, and Optimizing Surgical Outcomes.

Laparoscopy for intramural uterine myomas lacking serosal protrusion or hysteroscopic accessibility remains surgically challenging due to limited visualization and precise localization. This prospective case series evaluated the efficacy of intraoperative transvaginal ultrasonographic guidance in augmenting laparoscopic excision of occult intramural fibroids. Fifteen patients underwent laparoscopy with concurrent transvaginal ultrasound-guided needle localization, utilizing a 17- or 18-gauge single-lumen needle affixed to a transvaginal probe.
