Who Gets by with Help from Friends? Multilevel Associations Between Loneliness, Friend Support, and Emotion Regulation in Adolescents with and Without Self-Injury.

Adolescence is a life period marked by increased emotionality, and, for some, volatile friendships and emotion dysregulation. Yet little research has examined peer processes in relation to adolescent emotion dysregulation from a dynamic perspective. This 3-wave longitudinal study examined two peer-related processes - loneliness and friend support - in association with emotion dysregulation with data collected during the COVID-19 pandemic. Further, we examined if these associations differed in those who had histories of non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI), a behavior known to be associated with emo

Ginsenoside Rb1 ameliorates stress urinary incontinence by upregulating SIRT1 to preserve mitochondrial homeostasis and MAM integrity.

INTRODUCTION: Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is a prevalent pelvic floor disorder characterized by impaired connective tissue integrity. Oxidative stress-induced mitochondrial dysfunction has been implicated in pelvic floor degeneration. Ginsenoside Rb1 (Rb1), a bioactive component of ginseng, exhibits antioxidant properties; however, its therapeutic effects and underlying mechanisms in SUI remain unclear. METHODS: A vaginal distension (VD)-induced mouse model of SUI and an H2O2-induced oxidative stress model in L929 cells were established to investigate the effects of Rb1. Urodynamic eval

Prophylactic Midurethral Slings at the Time of Pelvic Organ Prolapse Repair.

IMPORTANCE: Prophylactic midurethral sling (MUS) placement can prevent de novo stress urinary incontinence (SUI) after pelvic organ prolapse (POP) repair, but the concern about additional MUS-related adverse events remains. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to compare postoperative outcomes between women with and without preoperative SUI after undergoing concomitant POP repair and MUS placement. STUDY DESIGN: This retrospective cohort study included women undergoing POP repair with concurrent MUS placement between 2017 and 2023. Patients in the prophylactic group did not have preope

Analysis of urinary tract infections as a predictor of obstruction in women with a history of urethral sling surgery.

INTRODUCTION: Midurethral sling (MUS) remains a widely used and effective treatment for stress urinary incontinence, although complications such as voiding dysfunction and urinary tract infections (UTIs) may occur. Prior research has shown that up to 60% of women with chronic lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) after MUS surgery meet objective criteria for bladder outlet obstruction (BOO). This exploratory study aimed to assess whether UTI burden is associated with the presence of BOO in women with chronic LUTS following MUS. Secondarily, UTI patterns before and after urethral sling excision w

Pediatric Bladder Health Concerns: Does Where You Live Matter?

INTRODUCTION: The relationship between social determinants of health (SDOH) and bladder health (BH) concerns has not been explored. We evaluated the association between level of neighborhood disadvantage and resolution rates, loss to follow-up, and age at first visit for children with BH diagnoses. We hypothesized that children living in more disadvantaged areas would be older at first visit, more likely lost to follow-up, and less likely to experience symptom resolution at one y than children living in less disadvantaged areas. METHODS: We reviewed the records of all patients aged ≥3 y with

Posterior urethral valve and chronic constipation: Association and clinical outcome following endoscopic ablation in children.

OBJECTIVES: Posterior urethral valves (PUV) are the most common cause of congenital urinary obstruction in male infants and may be associated with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). The association between LUTS and chronic constipation (CC) in children, known as bladder and bowel dysfunction (BBD), has been extensively investigated. However, how primary urological obstruction may influence gastrointestinal function remains poorly investigated. This study aimed to assess the prevalence of CC in children with PUV and evaluate changes in bowel symptoms following endoscopic PUV ablation. METHOD

Impact of the urinary microbiome on urinary tract infection progression.

INTRODUCTION: Urinary tract infections (UTIs) remain a significant challenge in modern urology, increasingly complicated by the shift away from the "sterile bladder dogma." This narrative review summarizes current knowledge (2020-2026) on the urinary microbiome in women, men, and children, emphasizing the transition toward personalized urological care. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We conducted a comprehensive synthesis of 48 peer-reviewed articles from PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar. This narrative review evaluates the interplay between the urinary microbiome, host immune response, and pathogen

The urinary microbiome after paediatric bladder augmentation: a scoping review with comparative insights from adult urinary diversion surgeries.

Bladder augmentation is a lifelong reconstructive procedure for children with severe lower urinary tract dysfunction, but recurrent urinary tract infection, urolithiasis and mucus-related complications remain incompletely understood. This scoping review mapped evidence on the urinary microbiome after paediatric bladder augmentation and assessed transferable insights from adult bowel-derived urinary diversion. A PRISMA-ScR-guided search of PubMed, Embase and Web of Science identified peer-reviewed studies and conference abstracts published from January 2016 to April 2026 that used culture-indep

Urinary procedures in gynecologic oncology: a comprehensive literature review and management algorithm proposal.

OBJECTIVES: Urological involvement is common in gynecologic oncology because of the close anatomical relationship between the urinary and reproductive systems. However, comprehensive data on the indications and outcomes of urological procedures in this setting remain limited. This review provides a structured overview of urological reconstructive techniques in gynecologic oncology and proposes a practical management algorithm based on current evidence and institutional experience. A literature review was conducted using PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Central Register of Contr

Dosimetric Comparison of One-, Two-, Three-, and Four-Arc Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy Plans in Cervical Carcinoma: Evaluation of Plan Quality, Organ-at-Risk Sparing, and Treatment Efficiency.

Background Volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) has transformed the delivery of pelvic radiotherapy in cervical carcinoma, enabling precise dose conformity around critical organs while maintaining efficient treatment delivery. One important planning consideration that remains insufficiently explored is the optimal number of arcs required for achieving the best dosimetric outcome. This study was designed to address that question by directly comparing one-, two-, three-, and four-arc configurations within the same patient cohort. Methods Eleven patients with cervical carcinoma receiving exter

Relationship between Postoperative Neuropathic Pain and Clinical Scores in Patients with Cervical Ossification of the Posterior Longitudinal Ligament.

INTRODUCTION: Postoperative neuropathic pain (NeP) is common after surgery for cervical ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (cOPLL) and may affect clinical outcomes. The PainDETECT questionnaire (PDQ) is a widely used tool for evaluating NeP, while the Spine PDQ (SPDQ) was developed to improve specificity for spinal disorder-related NeP. This study aimed to evaluate postoperative NeP using PDQ and SPDQ and to examine their associations with clinical scores. METHODS: A total of 234 patients (170 men and 64 women; mean age, 61.9 years) who underwent cOPLL surgery were analyzed a

Drivers of Change in Radiotherapy Practice: Lessons From a UK Tertiary Cancer Centre (2013-2023).

AIMS: There is a dearth of systematic analysis regarding the introduction of changes in radiotherapy practice and how they are evaluated, potentially limiting understanding of how future radiotherapy development could be improved. Using The Christie NHS Foundation Trust (Manchester, UK), a tertiary cancer centre, as a site exemplar, we summarise the types of radiotherapy changes introduced across five cancer sites for which radiotherapy is a crucial component of curative treatment. Along with identifying where and how practice has changed, we also examine the rationale underpinning changes int

Beyond the Bones: Primary Prostatic Synovial Sarcoma in a Young Adult.

Synovial sarcoma is a very rare, highly malignant mesenchymal tumor and predominantly affects adolescents and young adults. This neoplasm tends to develop near the large joints in the extremities. The incidence of this type of neoplasm involving the prostate gland is extremely rare. Prostate sarcoma can often be misdiagnosed as a consequence of its infrequent occurrence. This is a case presentation of a 37-year-old man who had complained of a weak urinary stream for three weeks. Digital rectal examination showed an enlarged, hard, and nodular prostate. On imaging, there was a huge heterogeneou

Primary bladder diffuse large B-cell lymphoma causing unilateral ureterovesical junction obstruction: A case report.

Primary bladder diffuse large B-cell lymphoma is a rare extranodal malignancy that often mimics urothelial carcinoma. We report a 65-year-old male with flank pain and hematuria found to have a bladder mass extending to the ureterovesical junction with hydroureteronephrosis; urine cytology was repeatedly negative. Cystoscopic biopsy confirmed DLBCL, with no marrow involvement. Transurethral resection plus R-CHOP chemotherapy produced complete metabolic response on FDG-PET/CT, with stable residual uptake later deemed post-treatment change (Deauville 3). This case highlights ureteral obstruction

Capsaicin enhances chemosensitivity and mitigates MMP11-driven aggressiveness in human bladder cancer.

Bladder cancer (BLCA) is the second most common malignant cancer of the male urological system. BLCA is characterized by a high rate of recurrence. Capsaicin is increasingly being used in cancer treatment. This study analyzed the inhibitory effects of capsaicin on cell invasiveness and examined whether capsaicin enhances the chemosensitivity of BLCA. High concentrations of capsaicin induced apoptosis in cancer cells. Co-administration of capsaicin with various chemotherapy drugs (cisplatin, epirubicin, and mitomycin C) increased cancer cell sensitivity to chemotherapy. At lower concentrations,

Timing of FDA-Defined Adequate BCG Therapy and Oncologic Outcomes in High-Risk Non-Muscle-Invasive Bladder Cancer.

INTRODUCTION: Adequate bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) therapy, as defined by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), is widely used in clinical trial eligibility criteria and regulatory frameworks, yet its prognostic relevance in real-world practice remains incompletely understood. We evaluated the association between time-dependent completion of adequate BCG therapy and oncologic outcomes in patients with high-risk non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (HR NMIBC). METHODS: This retrospective cohort study included 188 patients with treatment-naïve HR NMIBC treated with BCG. Adequate BCG the
