Background Vernal keratoconjunctivitis (VKC) is an allergic conjunctival inflammation with severe ocular complications if left untreated. The current management regimen is plagued with adverse effects, long-term problems, and clinical relapses. Tacrolimus offers an alternative treatment option, and long-term studies are needed to determine its efficacy. Methods A two-year follow-up based study was conducted on moderate to severe VKC patients, who were prescribed tacrolimus skin ointment. The 5-5-5 exacerbation scale was used for the monitoring and grading severity of the disease. Analysis of v

A 32-year-old male, with juvenile open-angle glaucoma on chronic antiglaucoma therapy and recently introduced brimonidine eye drops to the treatment regimen, developed bilateral follicular conjunctivitis with subepithelial infiltrates (SEIs) initially resembling common infectious keratoconjunctivitis entities. The persistent nature of the conjunctivitis, the lack of positive conjunctival cultures, the absence of systemic symptoms, the full resolution of the condition upon discontinuation of antiglaucoma drops, and the commencement of topical steroids, along with the reappearance of SEIs upon r

As a special type of glaucoma, Posner-Schlossman syndrome (PSS) is characterized by elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) and anterior uveitis. Cytomegalovirus (CMV) anterior chamber infection has now been considered the leading cause of PSS. We used murine CMV (MCMV) intracameral injection to establish a rat model manifested in IOP elevation and mild anterior uveitis, much like PSS; viral localization and gene expression at various time points and inflammatory cell infiltration derived from innate and adaptive immunity were investigated, as well as pathogenetic changes of the trabecular meshwor

PURPOSE: Pediatric cataract is a major cause of preventable childhood blindness worldwide. Although genetic mutations or infections have been described in patients, the mechanistic basis of human cataract development remains poorly understood. Therefore, gene expression of structural, developmental, profibrotic, and transcription factors in phenotypically and etiologically distinct forms of pediatric cataracts were evaluated.
METHODS: This cross-sectional study included 89 pediatric cataract subjects subtyped into 1) prenatal infectious (cytomegalovirus, rubella, and combined cytomegalovirus

Viral conjunctivitis is one of the most common acute eye diseases. The fall and winter months are known to be the main season for viral infections which is also reflected in the ophthalmological outpatient clinics. Viral conjunctivitis is often accompanied by symptoms of the upper and lower respiratory tract, fever, chills, arthralgia or skin lesions. The spectrum of pathogens comprises DNA viruses such as Adeno-, Herpes simplex and Molluscum contagiosum as well as RNA viruses. Symptoms caused by pandemic pathogens such as SARS-CoV-2 and mpox viruses can also cause ocular manifestation. Viral

INTRODUCTION: Bilateral herpes zoster ophthalmicus (HZO) is rare. We report a case of an immunocompetent patient with nonsimultaneous attacks of HZO in both eyes.
CASE DESCRIPTION: A 71-year-old female patient complained of blurred vision in the left eye for 1 week, which was treated with topical antiglaucomatous drugs due to elevated intraocular pressure. She denied any systemic diseases, but HZO had manifested as a rash with a crust over the right forehead skin 3 months earlier. Slit-lamp examination revealed localized corneal edema with keratin precipitates and mild anterior chamber reacti
