PURPOSE: To report an aggressive case of melanocytoma with evidence of malignant melanoma transformation in a young patient with MEN1 syndrome.
OBSERVATIONS: A 24-year-old female with known MEN1 syndrome presented with new onset floaters in the right eye. Posterior examination demonstrated a pigmented mass. Initial biopsy demonstrated evidence of melanocytoma. Within 4 months, the patient returned with remarkable tumor growth, significantly decreased vision, and pain. PURPOSE: To determine the association between pars plana thickness and disease activity in acute anterior uveitis.
METHODS: Participants underwent anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) of the ciliary body using Topcon DRI-OCT Triton plus with an anterior segment adapter. PURPOSE: Uveal melanoma (UM) is a rare but aggressive intraocular malignancy originating in the uvea (choroid, iris, and ciliary body). Despite primary treatment, 50% of UM patients develop metastases to the liver, lungs, bones, and skin. Pseudo-plateau iris configuration (PPIC) is an under-recognized cause of persistent angle narrowing in the young population, characterized by anterior displacement of the peripheral iris secondary to iridociliary cysts. Although quite common in the general population, occurring in up to half of otherwise normal eyes, only a small subset of ciliary body (CB) cysts produce clinically significant angle compromise. The condition often remains undetected because routine anterior-segment evaluation lacks the ability to visualize the CB, and ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) is not universally employed.
