Paralysis of the right third and fourth cranial nerves, lasting for about six weeks, occurred in a patient following the injection of procaine hydrochloride in the area of the right superior alveolar artery. Ocular complications of dental anesthesia are rare and are probably caused by intra-arterial injection of anesthetic that reaches the orbit via an anastomosis between the middle meningeal and ophthalmic arteries. Such complications include transient oculomotor palsies and permanent or transient loss of vision.

A case is described where relapsing alternating cerebral nerve pareses were frequently observed in the course of twelve years. The neurogenic character of the pareses could be demonstrated by electromyography. The extremities examined also showed signs of subclinical changes of the peripheral nervous system. The results of examinations suggest that the patient has an idiopathic form of polyneuropathy, the clinical manifestation of which is restricted to the cerebral nervous system. The literature on relapsing cerebral nerve pareses is discussed briefly.

In order to study the clinical picture due to inrradiation of the hypophysis by protons with an energy of 1000 Mev with the use of a pendulum technique, the authors examined 30 dogs including 27 with an irradiated hypophysis and 3 control animals during 2 years. We have produced severe vitamin B12 deficiency in rhesus monkeys by feeding them a defined experimental diet under controlled conditions. Five years after institution of the deficient diet, the morphology and counts of peripheral blood and bone marrow are normal. Specific serological methods now enable us to demonstrate that Mycoplasma Pneumoniae is responsible for a variety of neurological symptoms. When halo-pelvic traction is applied at a rapid rate it may induce cranial nerve palsies. The sixth, ninth, and tenth cranial nerves appear to be the most vulnerable. A proposed etiology is the stretching of these nerves resulting in a compromised blood supply with a consequent temporary paralysis which usually improves within 8 to 10 weeks.

The authors report an observation of dominant generalized cortical hyperostosis with multiple and unilateral involvement of a certain number of cranial nerves. In other members of the family, who present with the same bone disorder, involvement of the cranial nerves was limited to the facial nerve, either uni or bilaterally, with a partially or totally regressive evolution. This cranial nerve involvement, which is classic in the recessive form (first described) of generalized cortical hyperostosis, has until now, never been reported in the dominant form of this disorder.
