Cerebral cysticercosis is a neurologic disease with myriad manifestations. Three basic types of infections occur: localized, widespread, and proliferative inflammatory reaction. A case is reported illustrating the first type of infection and one type of clinical presentation,--focal seizures. The amygdaloid complex plays an important role in various defensive, sexual and metabolic functions of the organism. Synaptic relationships between neuronal processes have been studied in thick sections (up to 1.0 mum) with high voltage electron microscopy. The role of the human frontal lobes (and predominantly their mediobasal parts) in regulation of the two types of unspecific activation was studied. These types were: fast orienting reactions and slow changes in levels of vigilance. 92 normal persons and 202 patients with lesions of the frontal lobes and other regions of the brain were observed. Various anatomic regions of rabbit brain have been examined for activities of the enzymes of the gamma-glutamyl cycle. While these enzyme activities were widely distributed in the brain, they are present in much higher concentrations in the choroid plexus than in other parts of the brain. The activities observed are of about the same order of magnitude as found in the kidney. These observations and other considerations suggest that the gamma-glutamyl cycle may play a significant role in the transport of amino acids between blood and cerebrospinal fluid.

An account is given of four patients with acute idiopathic polyneuritis, leading within a few days to almost total paralysis. Two of these (cases 3 and 4) began to recover voluntary movement in the limbs in a month or less, and showed complete clinical recovery in three and 10 months respectively. The memory phenomena are classified into image memory, emotional memory and conditioned reflex memory. It is assumed that prefrontal area is critically involved in the image memory, and in particular, in short-term image memory. On the other hand, both emotional and conditianed reflex memory do not depend on the prefrontal area but they are controlled by other parts of the neocortex and by paleocortex. The intimate nature of both short-term and long-term memory is discussed.

Most of the neurons tested in the superior temporal cortex of awake squirrel monkeys responded to recorded species-specific vocalizations. Some cells responded with temporally complex patterns to many vocalizations. Other cells responded with simpler patterns to only one call. Most cells lay between these two extremes. On-line deletion of parts of a vocalization revealed the role of temporal interactions in determining the nature of some responses.
