1. Choline acetyltransferase (choline-o-acetyltransferase 2.3.1.6.) concentrations were determined in the caudate nucleus, thalamus, and cortex of control and morphine treated rats. The enzyme was assayed using a modified radiochemical method on a number of selected days, one hour after the last injection of 30 mg/kg of morphine and also during the subsequent phase of abstinence from morphine.2. The occurrence of malignant gliomas in a pair of identical twins is reported. One, in the posterior fossa, presented in the third year of life, the other, in the left cerebral hemisphere, in the eighth. Both ran a rapidly progressive course and died within a few months of the onset of symptoms. The axial filament nerves of Vampyroteuthis infernalis are joined to two separate parts of the brain. One branch of the nerve, apparently efferent, arises from the anterior portion of the middle subesophageal mass, and the other, apparently afferent. enters the ventral magnocellular lobe. Since this innervation is entirely different from that of the arms, the filaments can no longer be considered homologous with the arms. The validity and primitive nature of the order Vampyromorpha, therefore, needs to be reexamined.

The activity of monoamine oxidase was estimated in the hypothalamus, amygdala, and frontal cortex of adult female rats during the estrous cycle. Enzymatic activity in all three areas of brain was at its lowest during the diestrus phase of the estrous cycle and progressively increased to its highest during estrus. Throughout the estrous cycle the greatest activity of monoamine oxidase was found in the hypothalamus, as compared with the other brain areas. The significance of the activity is discussed.
