Plasma cell neoplasms (plasma cell dyscrasias) are a group of entities characterized by the neoplastic proliferation of a single clone of plasma cells, typically producing a monoclonal immunoglobulin. These tumors can manifest as multiple myeloma, monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance, plasma cell myeloma, or plasmacytoma. Human thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) is a glycoprotein secreted by the anterior part of the pituitary gland. TSH plays an important physiological role in the regulation of hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid axis by modulating the release of the thyroid hormones from the thyroid gland. It induces iodine uptake by the thyroid, promotes thyroid epithelial differentiation and growth, and protects thyroid cells from apoptosis. OBJECTIVES: To analyse the clinical features and risk factors of acute/subacute interstitial pneumonia (A/SIP) and death in patients with positive anti-aminoacyl-transfer RNA synthetase antibody (anti-ARS Ab) and positive anti-melanoma differentiation-associated gene 5 antibodies (anti-MDA5 Ab).

BACKGROUND: Prolactin improves glucose homeostasis by increasing β-cell mass under certain conditions such as pregnancy, whereas hyperprolactinaemia due to a pituitary gland adenoma tumour exacerbates insulin resistance. However, previous studies have not evaluated how prolactin modulates β-cell function and insulin sensitivity at different dosages. Here, we determined that chronic intraperitoneal injections of different dosages of prolactin have opposite effects on insulin resistance and β-cell function and mass in 90% pancreatectomized diabetic male rats, and the mechanisms were explored.

Endoscopic surgery has been performed in our Department since 1996 as assistance in micro-neurosurgical procedures. In the same way the endoscope was used in transsphenoidal pituitary surgery, but from the beginning of 2004 we started with "pure" endoscopic surgery. We present our experience with the first ninety patients to demonstrate our way of operating. Endoscopic pituitary surgery is performed through a natural nasal air pathway without any incisions. A 4-mm endoscope is placed in front of the tumor in the sphenoidal sinus and the tumor is removed with specially designed surgical tools.
