Postoperative complications at the palatal donor site following autologous soft tissue grafting: a systematic review.

This systematic review analyzes postoperative complications at the palatal donor site following the harvesting of autologous soft tissue grafts in periodontal surgery. Although these grafts remain the clinical reference standard due to their effectiveness, their harvesting may be associated with donor-site morbidity, including pain, bleeding, partial necrosis, and sensory disturbances. A comprehensive search was conducted in PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science, identifying 16 clinical studies published between 2019 and April 2025. The included studies comprised randomized controlled trials, pro

Facial Retaining Structures are Not True Ligaments: Clinical Application.

BACKGROUND: The so-called facial retaining ligaments have long been described in aesthetic anatomy; however, their histologic characteristics and mechanical behavior differ from those of true ligaments found in the appendicular skeleton. This study aims to clarify the structural and functional nature of these fibrous retaining structures and discuss their clinical implications for soft-tissue filler and collagen biostimulator treatments. METHODS: Cadaveric dissections were performed to examine the morphology, orientation, and histologic features of fibrous connective tissues in the zygomatic,

Musculoskeletal Ultrasonography in Normal Feral Pigeons (Columba livia F. dom.).

Avian orthopedic disorders are common but can be challenging to diagnose. Radiographic examination and, to a lesser extent, computed tomography are the main diagnostic techniques used to assess avian orthopedic problems, whereas sonography is rarely applied. The objective of this study was to determine whether B-mode ultrasonography could be used to noninvasively evaluate the pectoral region and peripheral skeleton of 17 live feral pigeons (Columba livia f. dom.) (body weight: 270 ± 34.5 g) presented for clinical examination. The ultrasound examination (General Electric ≥ LOGIQ S7 Expert, GE H

Tourniquet Use and Anesthesiology Considerations in Patients With Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome: Balancing Orthopedic Needs With Anesthetic Safety.

Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS) is a hereditary connective tissue disorder characterized by generalized joint hypermobility, soft tissue fragility, chronic pain, and autonomic dysfunction. Although major vascular complications are uncommon in hEDS, affected individuals frequently undergo orthopedic procedures, including ligament reconstructions, tendon repair, and joint stabilization, due to recurrent dislocations and musculoskeletal injury. Consequently, careful evaluation of pneumatic tourniquet use in this patient population is warranted.  Pneumatic tourniquets are widely used in

[Thoughts about constructing the theoretical framework of the knowledge system of acupuncture-moxibustion based on modern medicine].

In the present paper, it is first proposed that the acupuncture-moxibustion medicine can be divided into 2 branches, namely, traditional acupuncture-moxibustion and modern acupuncture-moxibustion, and then makes a comparative analysis on their connotations of the theoretical knowledge systems and cognitive methodology. It is believed that the conditions for the construction of the theoretical system of modern acupuncture-moxibustion are basically mature. It also puts forward that the three basic principles must be adhered to in the construction of the knowledge of theoretical framework of mode

Management of Severely Reduced Interimplant Distance Using a Novel Eccentric Abutment: A 6-Year Case Report Featuring Digital Quantification of Implant Spacing.

BACKGROUND: A minimum interimplant distance (IID) of 3 mm has been recommended to preserve the interproximal bone crest and soft tissue papilla. In immediate full-arch rehabilitations requiring tilted posterior implants, anatomical constraints may not allow such spacing. When implants are placed in close proximity, conventional angulated multiunit abutments (MUAs) can lead to prosthetic interference and compromised mechanical resistance. This case report describes the management of two tilted implants with an IID <1 mm using a novel eccentric MUA. Implant spacing was precisely quantified using

Bayesian sequential learning for prognostication in extremity soft tissue sarcoma (BayeSarc): a retrospective, multicentre cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Sarculator is a widely validated prognostic tool that estimates overall survival and crude cumulative incidence (CCI) of distant metastasis in patients with resected soft tissue sarcomas in the extremities. Sarculator relied on external cohorts only for performance testing and could not incorporate new information or adapt to temporal changes. We aimed to develop BayeSarc, a prognostic model based on Bayesian sequential learning (BSL), which enables continuous updating by incorporating new clinical cohorts and provides more accurate estimates. METHODS: In this retrospective, multi

Advances in the Management of Sternoclavicular Joint Injuries.

➢ The sternoclavicular joint (SCJ) serves as the only osseous connection between the axial skeleton and the upper limb and is a synovial, saddle-like joint with robust posterior ligamentous stabilizers and a fibrocartilaginous disc. ➢ The brachiocephalic veins and other mediastinal structures are at risk from injury or surgery about the SCJ. ➢ SCJ injuries are best imaged with computed tomography (CT). CT angiography is warranted when a vascular injury is suspected, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is useful to define soft-tissue injuries. ➢ Acute posterior SCJ dislocations in active, heal

Non-invasive detection of local microstructural damage in tendon using Diffusion Tensor MRI.

Tendon is critical for musculoskeletal function as it transfers forces generated by muscle to bone and stores energy during movement. Impaired mechanical function in tendon limits mobility and results from fatigue-induced damage progression that outpaces the restorative processes maintaining tissue health, a phenomenon we term mechanopathology. Early and non-invasive detection of tendon mechanopathologies is vital to prevent further damage but is lacking in the clinical space. Here, we evaluate the ability of diffusion tensor magnetic resonance imaging (DT-MRI) to detect mechanical fatigue dam

Design and Standardization of a Mandibular Injury Model for the Study of Craniofacial Tissue Regeneration in the Ambystoma mexicanum Model.

The craniofacial complex is an anatomical region that, in humans, can be affected by developmental malformations, trauma, and pathologies such as cancer, leading to the loss of affected tissues. This creates a need to seek strategies for regenerating these lost tissues. This has promoted the study of cellular and molecular mechanisms that orchestrate the regenerative response of injured craniofacial structures in regenerating species, with Ambystoma mexicanum (A. mexicanum) being a species of great interest. In accordance with the above, a reproducible surgical lesion model was designed and st

Collection and Lipidomic Analysis of Murine Knee Synovium and Infrapatellar Fat Pad.

Intra-articular soft connective tissues such as synovium and adipose tissue play a crucial role in governing joint homeostasis and disease progression in various forms of arthritis. In the knee, like many synovial joints, adipose tissue forms an integrated anatomic and functional unit with the joint-lining synovium, and the most prominent adipose depot is the infrapatellar fat pad (IFP). With growing evidence that lipid profiles in the synovium-IFP unit shift during progression of joint diseases like osteoarthritis (OA), there is strong impetus for consistent tissue collection approaches and r

Atraumatic Retrieval of a Fractured Implant Screw in a Maxillary Locator-Retained Overdenture: A Longitudinal Case Report.

Fracture of implant prosthetic screws is a significant mechanical complication that may compromise implant stability, prosthetic function, and long-term restorative success. Retrieval of fractured screw fragments can be particularly challenging in implant overdenture patients because of limited access, prosthetic wear, and the risk of damaging the implant's internal connection during retrieval procedures. This report describes the conservative management of a fractured implant screw associated with a maxillary locator-retained overdenture in a medically compromised elderly patient with a prolo
