Guided tissue regeneration (GTR) is the core therapeutic strategy for repairing periodontal hard and soft tissue defects induced by periodontitis. Nevertheless, most current barrier membranes focus solely on alveolar bone reconstruction while ignoring the precise remodeling of the ordered periodontal ligament (PDL) microstructure, which impedes the integrated regeneration of functional periodontal tissues. To overcome these limitations, this study fabricated a novel bilayer composite GTR membrane with differentiated structural designs via sequential electrospinning for the synergistic and biom

Perioperative anesthesia monitoring increasingly extends beyond intermittent vital-sign measurements to continuous assessment of bioelectrical signals, tissue-device interfaces, local pressure, wound microenvironments, and selected biochemical markers. Hydrogels are attractive soft-interface materials because their water-rich networks can combine tissue-like mechanics, adhesion, ionic or electronic conductivity, microfluidic sampling, molecular recognition, and stimulus-responsive functions. This conceptual review evaluates hydrogel-based monitoring technologies from a perioperative perspectiv

BACKGROUND: In managing hip fracture, effective pain relief before admission to hospital is difficult without risking side effects. Although emergency departments routinely use fascia iliaca compartment block (FICB), there has been little evaluation of its use by paramedics before hospital admission. We aimed to assess whether a multi-centre randomised trial to evaluate FICB was feasible.
METHODS: Volunteer paramedics used scratchcards to allocate patients with hip fracture at random between FICB and pain relief as usual. Primary outcomes were mortality and quality of life. We also measured a

Gingival recession in the anterior maxillary region presents both functional and esthetic concerns, particularly when it affects the smile zone. Root exposure may lead to dentin hypersensitivity, plaque accumulation, and compromised gingival harmony. Periodontal plastic surgery techniques have been developed to restore gingival coverage and improve soft tissue thickness, demonstrating predictable results with generally favorable and well-documented outcomes. This case report describes the treatment of localized gingival recession affecting the maxillary left canine (tooth #11, Universal Number

BACKGROUND: In the United States, approximately 2.3 million people live with limb loss, of whom about 91% have undergone lower extremity amputation. Despite these numbers, relatively few studies have evaluated outcomes after elective transtibial amputation. In particular, we do not know whether the outcomes after amputation for intractable neurogenic pain such as complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) are comparable to outcomes after late amputations (6 weeks or more after limb salvage) performed for other reasons such as recurrent infection, soft tissue problems, recalcitrant nonunion, poor fu

Calcinosis cutis is the abnormal deposition of calcium salts in the skin and subcutaneous tissue. In children, it is rare and most often dystrophic, occurring in the setting of an underlying connective tissue disease, with juvenile dermatomyositis being the leading cause. Idiopathic calcinosis cutis universalis, defined by diffuse calcium deposition without preceding tissue damage, metabolic disturbance, or identifiable connective tissue disease, is exceptional in the pediatric population and remains a diagnosis of exclusion. We report the case of a nine-year-old girl with a two-year history o

BACKGROUND AND AIM: This study investigates genetic evidence for a causal association between alcohol intake and 1174 diseases, and various biomarkers.
METHODS AND RESULTS: A phenome-wide Mendelian randomization (MR) study was conducted using data from 337,463 UK Biobank participants. Five MR methods and sensitivity analyses tested linear associations, while non-linear MR assessed intake-dependent effects. Alcohol consumption was associated with 22 distinct diseases across ten categories. Beyond the strong association between genetically indexed alcohol intake with 'alcohol-related disorders'

Muscular and connective tissue structures of the pelvic floor play a crucial role throughout a woman's life, exerting significant influence on the course of childbirth. Injury to these soft tissues during delivery can substantially affect a woman's postpartum quality of life. In recent years, research has increasingly focused on evaluating pelvic floor structures prior to labor to determine whether functional or anatomical changes contribute to the labor process and its outcomes. Transperineal ultrasound has emerged as a promising tool for objectively assessing the preparedness of pelvic floor

Gout is a metabolic disorder caused by abnormalities in purine metabolism and/or impaired uric acid excretion. It is characterized by the deposition of monosodium urate crystals in joints or connective tissues, leading to recurrent episodes of acute arthritis. Gout can be categorized into two major types based on its etiology: primary and secondary. The majority of gout cases are associated with impaired uric acid excretion. The natural course of gout can be divided into three stages: (1) asymptomatic phase; (2) acute arthritis phase and intercritical phase; (3) chronic gouty arthritis and top

BACKGROUND: A clinical scenario in the esthetic zone is the presence of short clinical crowns, which, in the absence of occlusal wear and other injuries, is referred to as altered passive eruption (APE). The presence of APE can lead to esthetic issues, which can impact the patient's smile harmony. In esthetically demanding cases, APE must be addressed prior to or in conjunction with implant therapy, and failure to do so can result in esthetic complications and failure in prosthetic planning. This case report exhibits a digital workflow in treating such patients to achieve optimal outcomes.

Oral soft tissue augmentation plays a crucial role in enhancing esthetics, managing gingival recession, establishing an adequate band of keratinized mucosa, and supporting both periodontal and implant therapy. Traditionally, autogenous grafts such as free gingival grafts (FGGs) and subepithelial connective tissue grafts (SCTG) have been considered the gold standard due to their predictable outcomes and long-term stability. However, their limitations, including donor site morbidity, increased surgical time, and limited tissue availability, have driven the development of alternative biomaterials

Gingival recession is a common mucogingival condition that may develop following orthodontic treatment, particularly in patients with a thin periodontal phenotype and limited buccal bone support. This case report describes the management of multiple mandibular anterior gingival recessions in a 29-year-old female patient affecting teeth #22 through #27. Clinical examination revealed extensive root exposure and reduced gingival tissue thickness in the mandibular anterior region, resulting in esthetic concerns and increased risk of root sensitivity. Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) was utiliz

OBJECTIVE: To assess the peri-implant soft-tissue and hard-tissue response to monolithic zirconia (ZrO2) compared to porcelain-fused-to-metal implant crowns (PFMs).
METHODS: This report constitutes a pre-specified secondary analysis of this RCT. Eighty-three patients rehabilitated with single-tooth implants in the molar region were originally randomly assigned to receive either a ZrO2 or a PFM restoration. At 6 months, clinical parameters (plaque control record, probing depth, bleeding on probing, width of keratinised mucosa and marginal bone level changes) were recorded at the implant site a
