Effect of porcine collagen matrix versus rotated pedicle palatal connective tissue flap on the soft-tissue closure after the immediate posterior implantation: study protocol for a randomised controlled trial.

INTRODUCTION: Soft-tissue defect is commonly seen in immediate maxillary posterior implantation because of tooth extraction wound and tension from bone graft. Bone graft materials exposure has a significant detrimental influence on bone augmentation. However, previous studies lack sufficient evidence to guide wound closure after immediate posterior implantation. This study aims to use 3D integration technology to evaluate the effect of porcine collagen matrix versus rotated pedicle palatal connective tissue flap (RPPCTF) on the soft-tissue closure after the immediate maxillary posterior implan

A Rare Case of Systemic Cystic Angiomatosis in an Elderly Female Initially Misdiagnosed as Vascular Neoplasm: A Case Report and Literature Review.

INTRODUCTION: Myxoma is a rare benign tumor of primitive connective tissue, most commonly found in the heart. It can also occur in other soft tissues, such as the skin, muscles, jawbones, and near joints. Myxomas of the upper limb, particularly in the hand, are extremely rare. This case adds to the limited literature on hand myxomas, providing insights into its clinical presentation, diagnosis, and management. Apart from this case, only two more cases of myxoma with similar topography have been described. CASE REPORT: A 34-year-old Caucasian female with no prior significant medical history pr

Forelimb feathering, soft tissues, and skeleton of the flying dromaeosaurid Microraptor.

BACKGROUND: Microraptor is an essential animal for understanding the evolution of flight in birds and their closest relatives. Recent studies have uncovered evidence of its powered flight potential and details of its diet and ecology. However, we are still missing a thorough description of the anatomy of Microraptor connecting feathers, soft tissues, and osteology together. Here we focus on the forelimbs of ten new Microraptor specimens from the Shandong Tianyu Museum of Nature studied under Laser-Stimulated Fluorescence. We compared our results with extensively studied existing specimens (e.g

Genetically predicted basal metabolic rate and infectious diseases: a Mendelian randomization study.

BACKGROUND: The causal relationship between basal metabolic rate (BMR) and infectious diseases remains elusive. This study aims to clarify this association. METHODS: This study analyzed genome-wide association studies (GWASs) data from the UK Biobank and FinnGen cohorts to investigate the association between BMR and infectious diseases in European populations. Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis was initially employed, followed by multivariable Mendelian randomization (MVMR) to account for potential confounders. Mediation analysis further confirmed significant relationships. Sensitivity ana

Recent Advances in Succinate Dehydrogenase Deficient Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor Systemic Therapies.

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) are the most common gastrointestinal soft tissue sarcomas, with an incidence of about 15 cases per million person-years. Approximately 15% of GIST develop due to succinate dehydrogenase deficiency (SDH-Def), and such tumors do not respond well to the tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) used to treat other GIST. Due to its indolent nature SDH-Def GIST can often be surveilled if asymptomatic. In our current practice we typically treat advanced symptomatic SDH-Def GIST with the anti-angiogenic TKIs, sequentially treating with sunitinib, regorafenib and pazopan

Decreased Association Between Patellar Axial Malalignment and Patellar Height and Increased Association Between Patellar Axial Malalignment and Tibial Tubercle-Trochlear Groove During Weightbearing.

BACKGROUND: Nonweightbearing preoperative assessments avoid quadriceps contraction that tends to affect patellar motion and appear to be inaccurate in quantifying anatomic factors, which can lead to incorrect corrections and postoperative complications. QUESTIONS/PURPOSES: (1) Does the relationship of patellar axial malalignment and other anatomic factors change during weightbearing? (2) What anatomic factor was most strongly correlated with recurrent patellar dislocation during weightbearing? METHODS: This prospective, comparative, observational study recruited participants at our instituti

Comparing Biomechanical Properties of Bioabsorbable Suture Anchors: A Comprehensive Review.

Suture anchors (SAs) are medical devices used to connect soft tissue to bone. Traditionally these were made of metal; however, in the past few decades, bio-absorbable suture anchors have been created to overcome revision surgeries and other complications caused by metallic SAs. This systematic review aims to analyze the biomechanical properties of these SAs to gain a better understanding of their safety and utilization. A comprehensive systematic review that adhered to the PRISMA guidelines was conducted. Primary outcomes were that the pull-out strength of SAs, the rate of degradation secondar

Weight-Adjusted Waist Index, Psoriasis, and All-Cause Mortality: Findings from the NHANES 2003-2006 and 2009-2014.

Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is among the most common systemic diseases of connective tissue, affecting 1,5% of the population. In recent years about 30 000 new cases of RA have been reported annually. The rheumatoid process has a progressive course, leading to system-wide destruction of bones and joints, along with damage to many other organs and systems. The treatment team involved in managing cases of RA must be composed of specialists from many different fields: orthopedic surgeons, rheumatologists, physiotherapists, social workers, occupational therapists, and visiting nurses.<br /> The trea

Proximal Knee Ganglion Cyst: A Case Report and Review of Treatment Strategies.

Ganglion cysts are commonly encountered benign lesions, primarily localized near the wrist and hand but occasionally observed in the lower extremities. These cysts, characterized by their encapsulation in dense connective tissue, typically present with minimal symptoms, albeit occasionally causing discomfort or limited mobility. Herein, a unique case of a ganglion cyst in the posterior distal lower extremity is presented, located near the popliteal neurovascular structures and without any connection to the knee joint. Given the critical proximity to neurovascular structures and the patient's m

Clinical outcome of ≥2% circulating tumor cells in newly diagnosed multiple myeloma: insights from a multicenter study.

PURPOSE: Previous studies have shown that ≥2% circulating tumor cells (CTCs) in multiple myeloma are associated with a prognosis similar to primary plasma cell leukemia. This study aims to examine this ultra-high-risk patient subset and evaluate their clinical outcomes in a real-world clinical setting. METHODS: We included 1,056 newly diagnosed multiple myeloma patients treated with novel agents. CTCs levels were determined via morphological assessment on peripheral blood smears, using a 2% cutoff to stratify patients into <2% and ≥2% CTCs groups. We then evaluated clinical outcomes across th

Morphological examination of the normal kidney and urinary bladder in goats (Capra hircus) using anatomical sections and computed tomography.

BACKGROUND: Cross-sectional imaging is set to become the standard method for diagnosing various pathological conditions of the urinary tract in goats, and the concept for this atlas originated from this understanding. Until now, there has not been a comprehensive comparative atlas detailing the structures of the urinary tract in goats and their relationships with other organs. AIM: The main aim and objective of this study was to compare anatomically frozen cross-sections and detailed computed tomography (CT) images of the urinary tract, which may be used to diagnose urinary abnormalities and

Clear Cell Sarcoma (CCS) of the Soft Tissue: An Update Narrative Review with Emphasis on the Utility of PRAME in Differential Diagnosis.

Clear Cell Sarcoma (CCS) of soft tissue is a rare and highly malignant neoplasm primarily affecting young adults, often presenting in the deep soft tissues of the extremities. Despite morphological and immunophenotypic similarities to melanoma, CCS arises from connective tissues and is characterized by a distinct genetic hallmark: the EWSR1-ATF1 fusion resulting from t(12;22)(q13;q12) translocation. This genetic signature is absent in melanoma, making molecular diagnosis essential for accurate differentiation. Additionally, recent evidence highlights the utility of PRAME as an immunohistochemi

Utilization of Tubular Retractors for Paramedian Approach in Dorsal Column Spinal Stimulator Paddle Lead Placement: A Technical Report and Literature Review.

Spinal cord stimulation (SCS) is an established therapy for refractory back and leg pain, traditionally utilizing laminectomy-placed paddle leads or percutaneous cylindrical leads. Although percutaneous systems reduce soft tissue injury, they suffer higher migration rates and less precise dorsal column targeting. Minimally invasive surgical (MIS) techniques using tubular retractors combine the stability of paddle electrodes with reduced surgical trauma. Here, we describe a paramedian METRx tubular technique designed to minimize disruption of the posterior tension band while preserving paddle l

Integrated analysis of transcriptomics and proteomics hinted that PI3k-Akt and TGF-beta signaling pathways may synergistically regulate calipash development of Chinese Soft-Shell turtle at embryonic stage.

Calipash is a special connective tissue on the carapace posterior margin of Chinese Soft-Shell turtle (Pelodiscus sinensis), which is closely related to the stress resistance and nutritional value deposition of P. sinensis. However, previous studies lack knowledge about calipash development, thus its developmental regulation mechanisms are still unclear. In this study, transcriptomics and proteomics analysis of calipash at TK17-TK19 embryonic stages of P. sinensis were used to explore the mechanisms that regulate calipash development. Function analysis of DEGs and DEPs revealed that PI3K-Akt a

ADAMTS2: More than a procollagen N-proteinase.

A disintegrin and metalloproteinase with thrombospondin motifs 2 (ADAMTS2) is a member of the ADAMTS zinc metalloproteinase family, best known for its role as a procollagen I N-proteinase in the maturation of fibrillar collagens. Biallelic defects in the ADAMTS2 gene, resulting in a loss of ADAMTS2 enzyme activity and consequent retention of N-propeptides in type I procollagen molecules, lead to the rare monogenic disease Ehlers-Danlos syndrome dermatosparaxis type (dEDS) in humans, and dermatosparaxis in animals, conditions that are hallmarked by extreme fragility of the skin and other soft c
