Outcomes of Kaposi sarcoma in people living with HIV who maintain long-term viral suppression: A prospective case-series.

BACKGROUND: Data on chemotherapeutic efficacy and tolerability for Kaposi Sarcomas (KS) in people living with HIV (PWH) and HIV-virological control are limited. We aimed to describe clinical responses and tolerability of KS therapies in PWH with HIV-aviraemic KS in a prospective cohort. METHODS: We analysed all PWH with active KS with an HIV plasma viral load <200 copies/mL for more than 12 months under combination antiretroviral therapy (cART), whose clinical conditions were presented between the 1st of June 2021 and the 2nd of January 2023 to a national French Cancer HIV network panel. Past-year violence experienced by transgender women living with HIV with or without recent involvement in transactional sex: the French national cross-sectional ANRS-Trans&HIV study.

INTRODUCTION: Stigma and violence experienced by transgender women and women engaged in transactional sex may negatively impact health and access to HIV care. We investigated typologies of past-year violence experienced by transgender women living with HIV (TWLH), with or without involvement in transactional sex (TWLH-TS and TWLH-nTS, respectively) in France. METHODS: We used data from the 2020-2022 French national cross-sectional ANRS-TRANS&HIV survey, which included TWLH recruited in 36 HIV care centres. We performed latent class analyses using variables representing combinations of past-ye

HIV-associated pulmonary arterial hypertension: improving survival despite persistent treatment gaps - a systematic review and meta-analysis.

HIV-associated pulmonary arterial hypertension (HIV-PAH) is rare and understudied. We pooled 12 right heart catheterization-confirmed cohorts (n = 537, 1986-2021) and found that HIV-PAH presents with severe hemodynamics and advanced functional limitation, with only 64% receiving PAH-targeted therapy at diagnosis. Survival improved progressively over three decades alongside increasing therapy use. These findings highlight persistent treatment gaps and support consideration of contemporary combination PAH therapy in people with HIV-PAH.

Alcohol Use and the Care Continuum for HIV Preexposure Prophylaxis: An Updated Scoping Review of Research and Interventions.

HIV preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) effectiveness depends on engagement across the PrEP care continuum. Alcohol use may influence these steps, but findings remain inconsistent. This scoping review examined studies published since March 2020 that evaluated the association between alcohol use and PrEP outcomes and identified interventions targeting PrEP users who consume alcohol. We searched two databases, conducted citation tracking, and extracted data from studies measuring the association between alcohol use and ≥ 1 step in the PrEP care continuum. We also included intervention studies targeti

Assessing the feasibility and acceptability of a pilot peer led intervention to reduce stigma and improve ART adherence among young men having sex with men and transgender women living with HIV in low resource settings in Southern Africa.

BACKGROUND: Young men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender women (TGW) in Southern Africa experience a disproportionate burden of HIV, compounded by stigma related to HIV status and sexual orientation or gender identity (SOGI). These stigmas undermine mental health and antiretroviral therapy (ART) adherence, yet few integrated, community-informed interventions exist in low-resource settings. This study assessed the feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary impact of a peer-led pilot intervention to reduce stigma, improve mental health, and strengthen ART adherence among young MSM and

Approach and Management of Abnormal T-Cell Receptor Excision Circles on Newborn Screening.

Severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID) is a disease of adaptative immunity and the most severe form of primary immunodeficiency. Without early diagnosis and proper management, infants are at increased risk of severe recurrent infections and death. The addition of a T-cell receptor excision circle (TREC) assay to newborn screening (NBS) has made an enormous impact on early disease diagnosis and management, resulting in improved survival. In this review, we will discuss the diagnosis and management of SCID and the impact of the TREC assay addition to NBS.

ART adherence care strategies among adolescents living with HIV in Ghana's Ashanti Region: a qualitative study.

Adolescents living with HIV (ALHIV) in sub-Saharan Africa carry a disproportionate share of the regional epidemic and consistently record poorer adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART) than adults. While the statistical correlates of non-adherence are well documented, the everyday strategies adolescents devise to keep themselves on treatment remain comparatively understudied in Ghana. This study explored the ART adherence care strategies of ALHIV in the Ashanti Region, with a view to informing implementable, adolescent-responsive service models. This was the qualitative strand of a convergen

Cost-effectiveness of safer conception strategies for HIV-discordant couples in Zimbabwe.

INTRODUCTION: Data on the cost-effectiveness of safer conception strategies are limited, particularly where HIV is endemic. We evaluated the cost-effectiveness of antiretroviral therapy with frequent viral load monitoring (ART/VL), oral pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), vaginal insemination (VI), and semen washing (SW) for HIV-discordant couples in Zimbabwe. METHODS: We used decision-analytic models to compare safer conception strategies alone and in combination, with current practice. Costs (2024 USD) were estimated using micro-costing/time-and-motion studies within a safer conception program

Preferences of people living with HIV for treatment regimen attributes: a qualitative interview study.

INTRODUCTION: To develop effective HIV treatments, including long-acting injectables, understanding the treatment attributes and personal factors that are significant to people living with HIV is essential. METHODS: We conducted individual qualitative interviews with people living with HIV and healthcare providers (HCP) in the United States to evaluate treatment preferences if considering a hypothetical treatment switch. We performed a targeted literature review and identified five attributes related to HIV treatment: (1) administration mode, (2) administration setting, (3) administration fre

Triple-Target CRISPR Strategy to Block HIV Entry and Replication in Permissive Cells.

Total elimination of replication-competent human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) remains a major clinical challenge, in part due to random integration of the proviral DNA into host cell chromosomes, which enables lifelong persistence and production of progeny. Although antiretroviral therapies (ARTs) suppress viral replication, they cannot eliminate integrated proviral DNA, which remains a fundamental obstacle to achieving a cure. To overcome this problem, we developed a combinatorial clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats-Cas9 gene editing strategy to disrupt viral re

Persistent HIV Transmission Misconceptions Among People Who Inject Drugs in Massachusetts, USA.

Despite the widespread success of combination antiretroviral therapy in reducing overall HIV morbidity and mortality, people who inject drugs (PWID) continue to experience elevated risk of infection and suboptimal care outcomes. Addressing knowledge gaps related to HIV acquisition and transmission is essential for reducing incident cases of HIV. We assessed HIV transmission misconceptions (e.g., HIV can be transmitted through sharing cigarettes, hugging an infected person) among HIV-negative PWIDs recruited through two syringe service programs in Massachusetts between 2020 and 2025. HIV vulnerability among adolescent girls and young women in sub-Saharan Africa: a systematic review of individual social and structural determinants.

BACKGROUND: Adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) aged 15 to 24 years continue to bear a disproportionate burden of HIV infections in sub-Saharan Africa. Although substantial research has examined behavioral risk factors, evidence on how individual, interpersonal, and structural determinants interact to shape HIV vulnerability remains fragmented. A clearer synthesis of these intersecting determinants is essential for informing integrated HIV prevention strategies and guiding the implementation of emerging biomedical interventions such as long-acting pre-exposure prophylaxis. METHODS: A syst

"I have never heard of this reproductive health": young adults' understanding of the link between sexually transmitted infections and reproductive health in Eastern Cape, South Africa.

INTRODUCTION: Sexual and reproductive health literacy (SRHL) enables young adults to make informed health decisions through knowledge empowerment, without which sexual and reproductive health (SRH) outcomes are compromised. This study is apt, given the experimental nature of young adults with risky sexual behaviours, combined with the high burden of HIV and teenage pregnancy in South Africa. We explored young adults' understanding of the link between sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and SRH in the Eastern Cape, South Africa, so that health educational interventions responsive to young ad

A hybrid type 2 cluster randomized trial of an enhanced combined cognitive behavioral therapy and medication management algorithm for treatment of depression among youth living with HIV: study protocol.

BACKGROUND: The treatment of depression is essential for improving both psychiatric and medical outcomes for youth with HIV (YWH). Previous studies have shown that the combination of a medication algorithm and CBT tailored for YWH (COMB) is efficacious for decreasing depressive symptoms and improving quality of life, but sustainability of effects remains difficult. Most recently, a cluster-randomized RCT found at Week 24 statistically significant improvement in the site-level mean number of depressive symptoms, the proportion of YWH with a treatment response, and the proportion in remission at
