A systemic, multistakeholder participatory approach to research, innovation and action agenda setting for more integrated and effective prevention of HIV and other STIs: the case of Catalonia, Spain.

INTRODUCTION: It is increasingly acknowledged that transformative change is needed to effectively address the complex and persistent health challenges facing society today. Realizing transformative change requires multistakeholder processes that co-define and implement research and innovation (R&I) priorities and actions that better respond to the complexity of these challenges in a contextualized manner. However, there is limited insight into the operationalization of participatory systems approaches for identifying the systemic elements of these complex challenges and for defining and implem

Efficacy on the rocks: how hazardous drinking contextualizes the path from internalized heterosexism to antiretroviral adherence via adherence self-efficacy.

BACKGROUND: Young Black sexual minority men living with HIV (YBSMM+) in the US South face a confluence of structural and psychosocial barriers that impact antiretroviral therapy (ART) adherence. Internalized heterosexism and hazardous drinking have emerged as significant yet understudied factors influencing adherence self-efficacy, a known determinant of sustained ART adherence. PURPOSE: This study examined the relationships among internalized heterosexism, adherence self-efficacy, and ART adherence in a sample of YBSMM+, with a particular focus on the moderating role of hazardous drinking.

A network analysis of religious coping, mental health, and HIV outcomes among Black women living with HIV in the United States.

Black women living with HIV (BWLWH) utilize religion/spirituality as a coping mechanism in the face of intersectional adversities, which may be related to various mental health and HIV-related outcomes. However, the literature is still growing, and few studies have analyzed overall measures of religiosity as well as item-level variables in relation to mental and physical outcomes among BWLWH. The current study aims to explore these relations via network analysis. Data were collected from baseline assessments among 151 BWLWH in a longitudinal cohort in the Southeastern United States. Women comp

Development of HOPES Intervention for a Randomized Controlled Trial to Reduce the Perceived Stigma Among Women Living With HIV/AIDS in China.

We developed and pilot-tested HOPES, the first theory-driven, culturally grounded mHealth program to reduce HIV-related stigma among Chinese women living with HIV/AIDS (WLWHA). Guided by the updated MRC framework, we synthesized a scoping review, 30 phenomenological interviews and multidisciplinary consultations, then co-created 12 weekly microdramas with 32 WLWHA from Yunnan/Henan that embed cultural motifs of face, family honor, and collectivism; content was delivered through an encrypted WeChat mini-program underpinned by narrative transportation and sexual script theories. In a two-stage,

Burden and determinants of hyperglycaemia and dyslipidaemia in Zimbabwean adults living with HIV on dolutegravir-based first-line antiretroviral therapy: A cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Dolutegravir (DTG)-based antiretroviral therapy (ART) is now the preferred first-line regimen for people living with HIV (PLWH) globally, including in Zimbabwe, which has an estimated adult HIV prevalence of 12.9%. While DTG offers a high genetic barrier to resistance and favourable tolerability, it has been linked to metabolic abnormalities - including abdominal obesity, hypertension, dyslipidaemia, and impaired glucose regulation - that cluster together and increase the risk of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes. Data on this burden remain limited in Zimbabwe. We conducte

Postpartum Virologic Failure Among Women with HIV Suppressed at Delivery in Spain: Incidence, Timing, and Associated Factors.

The postpartum period remains a vulnerable phase for maintaining virologic suppression among women with HIV (WWH); however, evidence on postpartum virologic failure (VF) among women virologically suppressed at delivery is limited. We analyzed data from the CoRIS cohort including WWH aged 18-50 years who had a live birth while receiving antiretroviral therapy (ART) and were virologically suppressed at delivery between 2004 and 2024. The primary outcome was time to VF within 12 months postpartum, defined as two consecutive HIV RNA measurements >50 copies/mL or a single measurement >1000 copies/m

Patient-provider communication and the role of PrEP coordinators: a qualitative analysis to improve HIV preventive care.

Despite the proven effectiveness of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) in preventing HIV infection, significant disparities in its uptake persist, particularly among HIV priority populations in Arizona, USA. Patient-provider communication plays a vital role in facilitating PrEP access, especially when discussing sexuality and HIV-related risk behaviour. To explore how communication dynamics shape HIV prevention services, we conducted 24 semi-structured interviews with patients, healthcare providers, and PrEP coordinators. Guided by an adapted Patient-Provider Communication Framework, thematic ana

Brain viral reservoir seeding and neurological metabolic dysregulation in early-life immunodeficiency virus infection.

While viral reservoirs establish rapidly in the peripheral and lymphoid tissues in HIV-exposed and infected infants, the timing and consequences of viral seeding in the developing brain remain unclear. Using a neonatal rhesus macaque SIV model, we tracked early brain-associated viral DNA/RNA, neuropathology, and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) metabolism, and evaluated the impact of early antiretroviral therapy (ART). CSF viral RNA was detectable by 2 days post infection (dpi), mirroring plasma viral load kinetics. In contrast, brain tissue SIV DNA and RNA remained largely undetectable through the f
