Borrelia miyamotoi disease presenting with hyperCKemia and severe glycemic destabilization in type 1 diabetes mellitus.

Borrelia miyamotoi is a relapsing-fever spirochete that conventional tick-borne testing does not detect. We report a case notable for two findings not emphasized in prior series: creatine kinase elevation to 1464 U/L and glucose concentrations above 500 mg/dL without ketoacidosis in a pump-treated patient with type 1 diabetes mellitus. A 36-year-old man with frequent wooded exposure presented with fever, headache, myalgias, and rash, along with leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, and mild transaminitis. Lyme serology, Babesia smear, Anaplasma and Ehrlichia PCR, spotted-fever group Rickettsia serolog

Clinical Immunologic Interventions for the Treatment of Type 1 Diabetes: Challenges, Choice, and Timing of Immunomodulators.

Replacement insulin therapy has been the mainstay of type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1D) treatment ever since its introduction into clinical care more than 100 years ago. Despite advances in delivery methods, insulin remains a challenging medication. It is, therefore, not surprising that most people with T1D do not achieve optimal glycemic control and remain at risk of complications. The recent introduction of teplizumab as the first immunotherapy for T1D has ushered in an exciting era where the focus is shifted from metabolic replacement therapy with insulin to proactive disease-modifying treatmen

The Association between Psychological Distress and Disordered Eating Behavior in Young People with Type 1 Diabetes: A Systematic Review.

CONTEXT: Young people with type 1 diabetes mellitus experience unique challenges, including physical and psychological changes, altered nutritional needs, and the risk of weight fluctuations. Psychological distress, a frequently overlooked factor in routine clinical practice, is a key variable, as it may be both a consequence of and a contributing factor to difficulties with dietary-insulin treatment in this population. It could contribute to the development of disturbed eating behaviors and more severe mental health conditions, such as eating disorders. OBJECTIVE: The aim of the present syst

Evaluating diabetes camps for children with type 1 diabetes in Japan: leaders' perspectives from a qualitative study.

OBJECTIVE: Diabetes camps (DCs) provide a safe and engaging environment for children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) worldwide. Despite the positive impacts of DCs on disease management, the lack of formal guidelines for designing activities and strategies for sustainable development remains unexplored. METHODS: Using Japan as a case study, we conducted a qualitative study involving semistructured interviews with eight DC organisers. A discussion guide with four open-ended questions was developed to facilitate the interviews. All sessions were recorded, transcribed verbat

Exploring the Role of the School Nurse in the Management of Type 1 Diabetes at School: A Qualitative Study in Greece.

INTRODUCTION: Findings of recent research highlight the rapid increase in the national and global prevalence of Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (T1DM) in children and adolescents-with thousands of newly diagnosed cases in people under 15 years of age. Setting as a constant priority the protection and promotion of their safety and health, but also the strengthening of their academic performance, the effective management of children and adolescents with diabetes Type 1(T1D) in the school area by teachers and health workers, such as the school nurses (SN), deemed necessary. PURPOSE: Given the increased

Parental quality of life and its influence on health-related quality of life in children with type 1 diabetes: a cross-sectional dyadic study in a multi-ethnic cohort.

BACKGROUND: Children with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) rely heavily on caregivers for disease management, particularly in the early years following diagnosis. While child health-related quality of life (HrQOL) is widely recognised as a key outcome in diabetes care, the role of caregiver wellbeing, particularly within diverse sociocultural and economic contexts, has been insufficiently examined. This gap is especially relevant in multi-ethnic Asian settings, where family structures and caregiving expectations may diverge from Western norms. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the sociodemographic determ

Effect of Orem's Self-Care Model on self-efficacy, self-management, quality of life, and HbA1c among children with type 1 diabetes mellitus in Palestine.

BACKGROUND: Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) is a growing global and national health concern, particularly among Palestinian children who face significant psychosocial, educational, and structural barriers to optimal disease management. Effective self-care requires developmentally appropriate education that enhances self-efficacy, supports family involvement, and promotes independent diabetes self-management. Orem’s Self-Care Model provides a theoretical framework for identifying self-care deficits and guiding supportive–educative interventions. AIM: To evaluate the effect of applying Orem’s Se

Novel Therapeutic Approach to Preserving or Reversing Pancreatic Islet Beta Cells in Patients With Type 1 Diabetes: A Bayesian Network Meta-Analysis of Comparative Efficacy.

AIMS: Type 1 diabetes accounts for approximately 10% of all diabetes cases, meaning that a substantial number of patients require lifelong insulin therapy. Although many individuals adapt to the demands of daily injections, they remain vulnerable to hypoglycaemia and long-term complications, particularly when glycaemic control is suboptimal. These persistent challenges have driven the search for effective treatments that may improve quality of life and potentially induce clinical remission. To address this need, we conducted a Bayesian network meta-analysis to evaluate the capacity of non-insu
