INTRODUCTION: As a new index of obesity and metabolism, the cardiometabolic index (CMI) has been shown to play an important role in the prediction and diagnosis of metabolic diseases. However, the relationship between CMI and osteoporosis (OP) in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients with metabolism-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) remains unclear. The present study aims to explore the relationship between them and provide new insights for the clinical management of OP in patients with T2DM.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: A total of 429 T2DM patients with MAFLD were selected. Characteristics

Aging is a natural process that involves various physiological changes, including increased susceptibility to diseases. With aging, the immune system weakens, and the body becomes more vulnerable to infections and inflammation. Moreover, conditions such as sarcopenia, osteoporosis, and non-communicable chronic diseases (hypertension, type 2 diabetes mellitus, and obesity) are more common among older adults. However, diet can play a fundamental role in maintaining health and preventing various pathologies. Fermented dairy products, which are rich in high-quality proteins and bioactive peptides,

Type 2 diabetic osteoporosis (T2DOP) is a complex metabolic bone disorder characterized by reduced bone density and increased risk of osteoporosis in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. The etiology of T2DOP is multifactorial, involving hyperglycemia, insulin resistance, and gut microbiota dysbiosis. Current management strategies for T2DOP typically involve a comprehensive approach, including strict glycemic control, vitamin D and calcium supplementation, anti-osteoporotic medications, increased physical activity, and gut microbiota modulation. This study aimed to investigate the therapeut

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) are at greater risk of fragility fractures compared to those without diabetes despite comparable or higher bone mineral density (BMD). T2DM may increase skeletal fragility by altering aspects of bone quality including bone geometry, microstructure, tissue properties and remodeling independently of BMD, a parameter of bone quantity. The objective of this review is to synthesize recent work involving aspects of bone quantity and quality that may contribute to fragility in T2DM.
RECENT FINDINGS: Compared to those without diabete

Metformin, an oral antihyperglycemic drug, represents the cornerstone of pharmacological treatment for type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Its primary glucose-lowering effects are well established, predominantly mediated through the activation of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK). This activation leads to a reduction in hepatic glucose production (primarily by inhibiting gluconeogenesis and glycogenolysis) and an increase in peripheral glucose uptake and utilization. Beyond its direct impact on glucose metabolism, metformin also improves insulin sensitivity and has beneficial effects on lipid p

BACKGROUND: Whether sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors elevate osteoporosis risk remains controversial, and the underlying metabolic pathways are unclear. Emerging data suggest these agents influence bone metabolism biomarkers, which may modulate fracture susceptibility. We therefore used Mendelian randomization (MR) to assess the mediating role of bone metabolism markers in the effect of SGLT2 inhibition on osteoporosis.
METHODS: A two-sample, two-step MR design evaluated causal associations between genetically proxied SGLT2 inhibition and osteoporosis, with positive-control a
