Testing a New Diabetes Adaptive Weight management Network (NewDAWN): A protocol for a randomised controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: The NHS Path to Remission (PtR) offers a total diet replacement (TDR) programme to help people newly-diagnosed with type 2 diabetes (T2D) lose weight. It is very effective for people who participate, but most eligible people do not take part. AIM: To assess whether offering a range of weight loss programmes can increase uptake of, and persistence with, weight loss and lead to a higher proportion of the population achieving remission of T2D compared with offering PtR only. METHOD: 1788 people diagnosed with T2D in the last six years, who are willing to try to lose weight to achiev

Identifying behaviour change techniques within precision health interventions that use continuous glucose monitoring: a secondary analysis of a scoping review.

BACKGROUND: Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) is increasingly being used within precision health interventions to motivate behaviour change. However, there is considerable variability and complexity in the design of behaviour change interventions that incorporate CGM-based biofeedback, making it challenging to disentangle the intervention components that are driving intervention effects. The objective of this review is to identify the behaviour change techniques and mechanisms of action commonly implemented alongside CGM-based biofeedback. METHODS: We conducted secondary analyses of a scopi

Collagen-ORC Versus Standard Treatment in Diabetic Foot Ulcers: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomised Trials.

Diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) are a major cause of infection, hospitalisation, and amputation. Collagen-based dressings-especially collagen combined with oxidised regenerated cellulose (ORC)-are proposed to improve healing by modulating matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), stabilising the extracellular matrix (ECM), and tempering inflammation; some formulations also include antimicrobial or bioactive adjuncts. We conducted a systematic review of randomised controlled trials (RCTs) following Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidance. Adults with DFUs were e

[Preexisting diabetes: Expert consensus from the College of French Gynecologists and Obstetricians and from the French Society of Diabetology].

In France, 0.2% of women who gave birth in 2021 had type 1 diabetes, and 0.3% had type 2 diabetes. Regarding preconception care, it is recommended that women with any type of diabetes achieve an HbA1c level of less than 6.5%. For women using continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), the recommended target range is 0.70-1.80g/L (3.9-10mmol/L), and it is recommended to achieve this range at least 70% of the time. The preconception assessment includes: 1) an HbA1c measurement, 2) an assessment of microangiopathic impact, 3) an assessment of macroangiopathic complications, 4) screening for associated c

Risk Factors for Pulmonary Tuberculosis in an Urban Area of Algeria.

BACKGROUND: Algeria and North Africa have limited data on tuberculosis (TB) risk factors. In addition, pretreatment assessments often do not include fasting blood glucose or renal function tests. These biological tests are only carried out if the interview and the results of the biochemical analysis of the urine make it possible to identify a patient at risk. This study aimed to identify the main risk factors for pulmonary TB (PT) in people aged 15 years and over in Blida and to specify the unrecognised rates of diabetes and chronic renal failure in conjunction with TB. METHODS: We conducted

Intensive lifestyle intervention in type 2 diabetes and risk of incident coronary artery disease for the common haptoglobin phenotypes: the Look AHEAD study.

BACKGROUND: Intensive glycemic control reduced coronary artery disease (CAD) events among the Action to Control Cardiovascular Disease Risk in Diabetes (ACCORD) participants with the haptoglobin (Hp) 2-2 phenotype only. It remains unknown whether Hp phenotype modifies the effect of an intensive lifestyle intervention (ILI) on CAD in type 2 diabetes. METHODS: Haptoglobin phenotype was measured in 4542 samples from the Action for Health in Diabetes (Look AHEAD) study. Cox regression models assessed the effect of ILI (focused on weight loss from caloric restriction and physical activity) versus

Clinical significance of elevated D-dimer in emergency department patients: a retrospective single-center analysis.

INTRODUCTION: D-dimer is a marker of coagulation and fibrinolysis widely used in clinical practice for assessing thrombotic activity. While it is commonly ordered in the Emergency Department (ED) for suspected venous thromboembolism (VTE), elevated D-dimer levels can occur due to various other disorders. The aim of this study was to find out the causes of elevated D-dimer in patients presenting to a large ED in Saudi Arabia and evaluate the accuracy of D-dimer in diagnosing these conditions. METHODS: Data was collected from an electronic hospital information system of patients who visited the
