Aquaculture of the giant river prawn Macrobrachium rosenbergii faces ongoing challenges associated with aberrant gonadal development, precocious puberty and inefficient sex manipulation techniques. Although microRNAs (miRNAs) serve as critical regulators of spermatogenesis across diverse taxa, their roles in modulating testicular development of M. rosenbergii remain largely uncharacterized. In this study, we performed small RNA sequencing on testicular tissues of M. rosenbergii at three representative developmental stages to profile genome-wide miRNA expression dynamics during spermatogenesis.

Human African Trypanosomiasis (HAT) or sleeping sickness is a systemic parasitic infection caused by the protozoan parasite Trypanosoma brucei. HAT is associated with substantial immunological, metabolic, and neurological pathology. Although reproductive dysfunction has previously been recognised in both human and experimental T. brucei infection, whether parasites can directly infiltrate the female reproductive tract (FRT), and how infection may reshape the FRT immune landscape remains poorly understood. Using a murine model of T. brucei infection we reveal that parasites are localised in the

The abundance of diverse naive CD8+ T cell clones is essential for broad protection against infection and cancer, but how sex and aging jointly shape this compartment remains poorly understood. Here, using mouse models with supporting human data, we uncover a sex-biased mechanism of immune aging in which early male-biased depletion of naive CD8+ T cells driven by accelerated, antigen-agnostic differentiation into virtual memory cells combines with thymic involution, limiting naive CD8+ T cell replenishment. These mechanisms led to more rapid lymph node contraction and reduced local naive T cel

BACKGROUND: Autoimmune primary adrenal insufficiency (PAI) is the most common cause of Addison's disease (AD) in Western countries and requires lifelong glucocorticoid and mineralocorticoid replacement. Despite biochemical control, many patients report persistent fatigue, functional limitations, and reduced well-being. However, evidence on health-related quality of life (HR-QoL) and psychopathological outcomes in autoimmune PAI remains fragmented and is often derived from mixed AD cohorts, limiting autoimmune-specific interpretation. This systematic review aimed to synthesise quantitative evid

BACKGROUND: Pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (pNETs) with ectopic adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) production are uncommon, highly aggressive, and carry a dismal prognosis. Early nonspecific symptoms often delay diagnosis, and treatment strategies remain controversial. For patients with locally advanced pNETs, conversion therapy has only rarely been reported and remains a sparingly applied strategy.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 37-year-old woman presented with a six-month history of progressive swelling in both lower extremities and her face. Further workup confirmed ACTH-dependent Cushing syndrome

[18F]fluorocholine ([18F]FCH) PET/CT localizes hyperfunctioning parathyroid glands in patients with primary hyperparathyroidism, but the optimal imaging time remains uncertain. We evaluated the added value of a 60-min acquisition after a 10-min acquisition. Methods: Patients with primary hyperparathyroidism who underwent parathyroid surgery after [18F]FCH PET/CT were included in the study. PET/CT was performed 10 min (early) and 60 min (delayed) after [18F]FCH injection. Gland location, SUVmax, SUVpeak, and parathyroid-to-thyroid ratio were reported. Results: Among 162 glands surgically remove

Delayed postoperative hyponatremia after transsphenoidal pituitary surgery has a reported incidence of 5-30%, yet how much of this variability reflects biology rather than differences in postoperative sodium surveillance has not been quantified within a single cohort. We retrospectively studied 285 consecutive adults who underwent microscopic transsphenoidal surgery for pituitary adenoma by a single team between 2004 and 2025. Delayed hyponatremia was defined from raw laboratory data as any serum sodium below 135 mmol/L on postoperative days 3-10. Two predefined populations were analyzed: the

Intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM) is commonly used during thyroid surgery to facilitate recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) identification and potentially reduce related postoperative complications. However, the efficacy of routine IONM in decreasing complication rates remains debated. In this study, we investigated the impact of IONM on postoperative complications after thyroidectomy. This retrospective single-center study included 214 thyroidectomy operations performed between 2021 and 2024. Patients were divided into 2 groups: Group 1 (n = 107) underwent surgery with routine IONM, and Group

OBJECTIVE: Socioeconomic disparities are increasingly recognized as contributors to variable healthcare outcomes, including hospital length of stay (LOS). This study investigates how social factors, including the Social Vulnerability Index (SVI) and Area Deprivation Index (ADI), influence postoperative LOS in patients undergoing endoscopic endonasal pituitary surgery.
METHODS: The authors retrospectively analyzed patients undergoing endoscopic transsphenoidal resection of pituitary adenoma or cyst at a single academic institution between January 2021 and December 2024. SVI scores and ADI perc

INTRODUCTION: Primary aldosteronism (PA) and autoimmune polyglandular syndrome type 2 (APS-2) represent opposing ends of adrenal pathology-hyperfunction versus hypofunction. Their coexistence is exceptionally rare and diagnostically challenging.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 73-year-old woman with a 30-year history of refractory hypertension and recent hyponatremia was diagnosed with PA (aldosterone-to-renin ratio 29.11, positive captopril challenge, left adrenal hyperplasia). Spironolactone controlled blood pressure but paradoxically worsened hyponatremia. Two independent circadian cortisol profiles

ABSTRACT: Hypoadrenocorticism (HA) in dogs requires lifelong substitution therapy with glucocorticoids and, in most cases, also mineralocorticoids. For glucocorticoid replacement, prednisolone is administered at a maintenance dose of approximately 0.1 mg/kg/day. Alternative drugs such as hydrocortisone, dexamethasone, or methylprednisolone are used less frequently.
ABSTRACT: In veterinary medicine, desoxycorticosterone pivalate (DOCP) is the only parenteral preparation approved for the replacement of mineralocorticoid hormones in Europe.
ABSTRACT: The approved dosage is 2.2 mg/kg every 25-30

BACKGROUND: Chromosome 22q11.2 deletion syndrome (22q11.2DS), historically known as DiGeorge syndrome, is a common microdeletion disorder characterized by a wide range of multisystem manifestations. While Whole Exome Sequencing (WES) is increasingly used as a first-tier diagnostic tool for complex infant presentations, it has limited sensitivity for detecting copy-number variants such as microdeletions. Parental consanguinity adds further diagnostic complexity by increasing the likelihood of co-occurring single-gene variants.
CASE PRESENTATION: We present the case of a 12-month-old female bor

Sagliker syndrome (SS), commonly referred to as "Uglifying human face Syndrome," is a rare but serious outcome of chronic kidney disease characterized by skeletal deformities, especially in the skull and jaws, due to uncontrolled secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT). The diagnosis is made through a combination of clinical symptoms, radiographic evidence (demonstrating bone deformities), and laboratory evaluations. Timely and effective treatment of SHPT is essential to prevent or lessen the onset of SS. Treatment includes managing phosphorus levels (through dietary changes, phosphate binders, a

Vitamin D is a nutrient and prohormone obtained from diet and supplements and synthesized in the skin. It is essential for calcium and phosphate homeostasis and skeletal health and influences multiple extra-skeletal processes, yet deficiency remains common worldwide. This narrative review summarizes vitamin D sources, physiology, metabolism, pharmacokinetics, clinical relevance and safety and outlines the distinct pharmacokinetic profiles and clinical roles of vitamin D, calcidiol and calcitriol and its analogues. Evidence consistently supports vitamin D, combined with calcium, for preventing

The kidney-bone axis constitutes a conserved bidirectional endocrine network that orchestrates skeletal remodeling and systemic mineral homeostasis. Its dysregulation underlies chronic kidney disease-mineral and bone disorder (CKD-MBD), renal osteodystrophy, secondary hyperparathyroidism, and associated vascular calcification, markedly elevating fracture and cardiovascular mortality risks. This review offers a unique cross-cultural and chronological synthesis of the kidney-bone relationship, bridging ancient medical insights with modern molecular endocrinology. Horizontally, we systematically

BACKGROUND: Despite successful CSF diversion for pediatric obstructive hydrocephalus, up to 40% of children in Sub-Saharan Africa develop persistent neurodevelopmental delay, growth arrest, and executive dysfunction. Models based on axonal injury or ischemia alone do not fully explain this burden.
HYPOTHESIS: We propose the Hypothalamic Compression-Endocrine-Glymphatic Dysfunction Theory. Third ventricular expansion compresses and shears periventricular hypothalamic neurons, particularly TRH-secreting cells of the paraventricular nucleus. This disrupts pulsatile TRH release and impairs TSH gl

BACKGROUND: The management of patients with beta thalassemia major (BTH) involves regular blood transfusions which are associated with iron overload. This may result in various endocrine dysfunctions (EDs). This study aimed to assess the obesrved frequency of different EDs in patients with transfusion-dependent BTH.
METHOD: A retrospective study that included 496 patients with BTH who were referred from the Basra Center for hereditary blood diseases to Faiha Specialized Diabetes, Endocrine and Metabolsim Center for endocrine-related complaints and underwent detailed endocrine assessments from
