Modeling Diagnosis and Clinical Outcomes in Infertility Couples Considering Multiple Factors: A Retrospective Study.

OBJECTIVE: Infertility arises from diverse etiologies, with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) being a leading cause among women, while male factors account for approximately 50% of cases. Selecting the most appropriate assisted reproductive technology (ART) for each couple is crucial. This study aimed to develop a dynamic mathematical model to predict ART success rates based on infertility etiology, laboratory tests, and clinical findings. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this retrospective study, data from 1,374 cases were reviewed, and a sample of 502 couples from the Yazd Research and Clinical C

DRP-1 and circadian rhythms: deciphering their impact on PCOS.

Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a complex reproductive disorder that impacts metabolic, endocrine, and circadian functions. Disruption in circadian rhythm can trigger PCOS due to an elevation in oxidative and inflammatory markers. Studies reveal that the increase in oxidative damage can occur due to defects in mitochondrial dynamics, through Dynamin-related protein 1 (DRP-1), in the development of PCOS. However, the mechanism of pathogenesis of PCOS through circadian rhythm and mitochondrial dynamics remains unclear. DRP-1 is a crucial regulator of mitochondrial fission, influencing ovar

Polycystic ovary syndrome: quantifying the psychosocial burden and the predictive role of sexual trauma history in clinical outcomes.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a complex endocrine disorder that needs to be addressed through holistic management of metabolic, hormonal, and lifestyle factors. This research study, a cross-sectional examination, reports on clinical and psychological aspects of PCOS and PCOD in a group of 75 educated women analyzed with descriptive statistics, non-parametric tests, and binary logistic regressions. To carry out this analysis, we integrated the symptom severity index (SSI) and a binary measure of past sexual trauma history. The study observed irregular menstruation in 85.3% and weight gain

Role of Liraglutide in weight management and reproductive health in women with obesity and PCOS- A critical review of the evidence.

Obesity and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) in women are associated with significant reproductive dysfunction, manifesting as hormonal imbalances, anovulation, and subfertility. These conditions not only impair reproductive outcomes but also contribute to a reduced quality of life. Crucially, obesity and PCOS share a bidirectional relationship. While obesity can trigger and worsen PCOS manifestations, the convergence of these two conditions has contributed significantly to the growing incidence of female infertility. This review critically examines liraglutide's mechanistic role and therapeut

From silos to synergy: the interdisciplinary discovery potential in redefining polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome.

Polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS) affects one of every eight women worldwide and is associated with high rates of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and infertility. Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), another term for this condition, reflects a historical focus on its effects on the female reproductive system. Recently, however, experts and patient groups have advocated renaming the condition PMOS, conveying increasing recognition that hyperandrogenism and insulin resistance contribute to its pathology. In this issue, Nguyen et al. took a systems genetic approach that comb

Nutrition care and Dietetic Practice in Managing Metabolic and Endocrine Dysfunction in Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS): Implications and Opportunities in the Context of the Name Change of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) to PMOS.

Polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS) affects 8-13% of women across the lifespan. Those with PMOS have reduced quality of life and increased risk of co-morbidities including elevated weight, eating disorders, gestational diabetes, type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. PMOS is a major population in clinical dietetic practice and dietary intervention is the first-line approach recommended to target metabolic risk in the international evidence-based guidelines for assessment and management of PCOS. The past name, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) was ovarian-centric and did not acc

Evaluating the Therapeutic Potential of Antioxidants in Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS)-Associated Infertility.

INTRODUCTION: Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian syndrome (PMOS) formerly known as polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) constitutes the most common endocrinopathy in women of reproductive age group. Evidence from numerous studies in PMOS patients suggests that antioxidants can modulate the ovarian microenvironment, promote folliculogenesis, and increase oocyte competence and yield. This review aims to summarize the existing clinical evidence regarding the application of antioxidants as adjunctive treatment options in the management of PMOS-related infertility. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This is a stru

Shared Pathophysiology and Early Detection Biomarkers in Endometriosis and Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS): Opportunities for AI-Enabled Screening.

Endometriosis and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) are common, multifactorial gynecological disorders shaped by endocrine imbalance, immune dysfunction, metabolic disruption, genetic susceptibility, and environmental exposures. Despite their major contribution to infertility and long-term cardiometabolic morbidity, early detection remains poor because symptoms are nonspecific, phenotypes are heterogeneous, and diagnosis is still dominated by single-modality and symptom-driven pathways. This review addresses this gap by synthesizing 2015-2025 evidence on shared and disease-specific biological m

BDNF- Dysregulation as a Neurobiological Bridge between Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), a prevalent endocrine disorder characterized by hyperandrogenism, has been increasingly associated with a high risk of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in offspring. The emerging interaction between reproductive endocrinology and neurodevelopmental biology suggests that excessive androgen exposure during gestation may perturb neurotrophic signaling and impair neural circuit formation. Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) acts through tropomyosin receptor kinase B receptor to activate downstream phosphoinositide 3-kinase/protein kinase B and extracellular sig

Dietary interventions for modulating the gut microbiome in PCOS management.

BACKGROUND: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a multifactorial endocrine disorder affecting about 10% of reproductive-age women. It is defined by insulin resistance, androgen excess, and chronic inflammation, which drive both reproductive and metabolic complications. Growing evidence suggests that gut microbiome dysbiosis contributes to PCOS by altering intestinal permeability, promoting endotoxemia, and worsening hormonal and metabolic dysfunction. Diet, as a modifiable factor, may offer a therapeutic route to restore microbial balance and improve outcomes. OBJECTIVES: This review aims to

Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists ameliorate polycystic ovarian syndrome in mice by regulating the irisin level and activating the BMP4-Smad signaling pathway†.

Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a multifaceted reproductive endocrine illness marked by ovulatory dysfunction, with various causes and symptoms; it is well-accepted that hyperandrogenism and glucose metabolism disturbances significantly contribute to its progression. Our prior research demonstrated that GLP-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) could ameliorate the symptoms of PCOS mice. GLP-1RAs have the ability to control irisin expression. However, it remains ambiguous if irisin contributes to the amelioration of PCOS through GLP-1RAs. Androgen excess is a primary component influencing the p
