Precocious Puberty and Risk of Psychiatric Disorders: A Nationwide Cohort Study Using Prospective Registry Data.

CONTEXT: Early menarche within the general population has previously been linked to increased risk of mental health disorders, and such associations are likely to be even stronger in children diagnosed with extremely early puberty (precocious puberty); however, information is sparse. OBJECTIVE: Investigate the association between precocious puberty and psychiatric disorders. DESIGN: A large cohort study included individuals in the National Danish Patient Registry with a diagnosis of precocious puberty from January 1, 1995, to December 31, 2020 (n = 9315, 11% boys), comprising patients regist

Examining Race-Based Puberty Information on Children's Hospital Websites.

BACKGROUND: In 2022, the American Academy of Pediatrics called for dismantling race-based medicine due to its harmful impact on patient care and education. Despite this, race-based guidance regarding pubertal timing persists in the literature and patient resources. Given the role of pediatric hospital websites as sources of information for families and as data for Artificial Intelligence, we examined the presence of race-based guidance on pubertal timing in girls across U.S. pediatric hospital websites. METHODS: Pediatric hospitals in the United States were identified, and each website was qu

Dim Light at Night Alters Pubertal Timing and Reproductive Parameters in Male and Female Sprague-Dawley Rats.

RESEARCH QUESTION: This study investigated whether dim light at night (dLAN) can alter pubertal timing and reproductive parameters in male and female Sprague-Dawley(SD) rats. DESIGN: Male and female SD rats were assigned to dLAN or control groups from PND21. Pubertal onset was assessed by vaginal opening (VO) in females and preputial separation (PS) in males. Body weight, estrous cycle, reproductive organ weights, plasma melatonin, serum leptin, and sex hormones were measured before and after puberty. Ovarian histology and hypothalamic expression of puberty- and circadian-related genes, as we

Associations between fat-soluble vitamin status, growth, and development in Chinese children aged 3-14 years: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: The status of fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K1, and K2) is crucial for childhood growth and development. However, comprehensive data on their levels-particularly vitamin K2-and their association with growth phenotypes in Chinese children remain limited. This study aimed to establish reference data and investigate these relationships. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted involving 1,802 children (892 boys, 910 girls) aged 3-14 years undergoing health check-ups in Ruian City, located in a subtropical monsoon climate zone in Eastern China. Serum levels of vitamins A, D, E,

Progression from Peripheral to Central Precocious Puberty in a Child with Leydig Cell Tumor.

An 8-y-old boy presented with premature virilization and was found to have peripheral precocious puberty due to a unilateral Leydig cell tumor. The mass was surgically excised, and histopathology confirmed the diagnosis. Postoperatively, androgen levels normalized; however, within months, he developed accelerated growth, testicular enlargement, and rising gonadotropins, consistent with central precocious puberty. Treatment with a gonadotropin releasing hormone analogue stabilized pubertal progression. This case underscores the need to consider Leydig cell tumors in boys with early virilization

Case Reports: Exploring the Varied Presentations and Clinical Features of Carney Complex, A Detailed Report on Three Distinct Cases.

Carney Complex (CNC) is a rare genetic disorder characterized by multiple endocrine and nonendocrine neoplasms, primarily driven by mutations in the PRKAR1A gene. This study explores the clinical heterogeneity in CNC patients, with a focus on adrenal and extra adrenal involvement and its impact on patient outcomes. We present three pediatric cases with unique clinical manifestations. Case 1: A 12-year-old female with ACTH-independent cyclic Cushing syndrome due to primary pigmented nodular adrenocortical disease (PPNAD). The patient's condition progressed, leading to complications such as obes

Associations of maternal exposure to nonylphenol and bisphenols with precocious puberty in girls: A nested case-control study.

Few studies have explored the association of prenatal exposure to typical endocrine disrupting chemicals such as nonylphenol (NP) and bisphenols with the odds of precocious puberty (PP) in girls. To evaluate the associations of maternal exposure to NP and bisphenols during pregnancy with the odds of PP [including central PP (CPP) and incomplete PP (IPP) subtypes] in girls, this study included 87 CPP cases, 109 IPP cases, and 588 matched (1: 3) controls based on a Wuhan birth cohort (2012-2014). Maternal urinary concentrations of three bisphenols and two NP metabolites [including oxo-NP and hyd

De novo GNAS-Gsα variant (p.Thr55Ala) with constitutive gain-of-function effects on AVPR2 and PTH1R signalings.

Recent studies have revealed de novo or germline-derived GNAS-Gsα variants with constitutive ligand-independent gain-of-function (GOF) effects on specific G-protein-coupled receptor signalings in patients with nephrogenic syndrome of inappropriate antidiuresis (NSIAD), osteolytic bone disorder with metaphyseal dysplasia, and peripheral precocious puberty. We encountered a Japanese girl with NSIAD and osteolytic bone disorder with metaphyseal dysplasia. Whole genome sequencing identified a de novo ″likely pathogenic″ heterozygous GNAS-Gsα missense variant (NM_000516.7:c.163 A > G:p.(Thr55Ala))
