[X-linked hypophosphatemia caused by a novel variant in the PHEX gene].

X-linked hypophosphatemia (XLH) (OMIM #307800) is a rare, chronic, and progressive genetic musculoskeletal disorder caused by loss-of-function variants in the PHEX gene located at locus Xp22.11. Clinical manifestations of XLH include short stature, dental abnormalities, and lower limb deformities, although the phenotype is variable. Diagnosis is clinical, biochemical, and radiological, but genetic testing is also recommended. This case report describes a 29-year-old female patient with no family history related to her disease, presenting with short stature, dental abnormalities, lower limb def

[Attenuated X-linked hypophosphatemia: late diagnosis in an adult patient].

Although patients with X-linked hypophosphatemia (XLH) usually present a phenotype characterized by rickets in children or osteomalacia in adults, short stature, lower limb deformities, and dental abnormalities, this condition can manifest with a wide phenotypic spectrum. In attenuated cases, diagnosis is often delayed, preventing early treatment. We present the case of a 50-year-old woman who was referred to our clinic by her son's pediatrician, who had been diagnosed with XLH through molecular testing. Manifestations suggesting attenuated XLH (mild valgus curvature of the lower limbs, bilate

Maternal vitamin D status, deficiency prevention strategies, and perinatal health outcomes.

Adequate maternal nutrition is vital for fetal development and maternal health. Although vitamin D is a widely utilized prenatal supplement, its clinical efficacy in improving major pregnancy outcomes remains a topic of debate. This study reviewed the physiological roles of vitamin D, evaluated the clinical impact of maternal supplementation on perinatal indices, and provided practical clinical recommendations within the context of regional public health challenges. Although observational data have consistently associated low maternal 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels with adverse outcomes, intervent

Assessment of Vitamin D Status and Calcium-Phosphate Metabolism in Patients with Hypophosphatasia-A Single-Center Cohort Study.

Background: Hypophosphatasia (HPP) is a rare genetic disorder caused by a loss-of-function mutation in the ALPL gene, which encodes tissue-nonspecific alkaline phosphatase (TNSALP). Reduced TNSALP activity in HPP primarily leads to bone mineralization disorders. Given the complex and challenging nature of issues related to vitamin D and HPP, it is essential to evaluate each patient individually and adjust the appropriate dose of vitamin D according to their specific needs in order to maintain calcium phosphate homeostasis and normal vitamin D levels. Maintaining proper vitamin D homeostasis in

Vitamin D Supplementation in Community-Dwelling Adults.

Vitamin D testing is commonly performed in adults. Evidence is lacking to support vitamin D screening or supplementation in the general population, regardless of baseline serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels. The National Academy of Medicine recommends that individuals 70 years and younger consume 600 IU of vitamin D daily and that individuals older than 70 years consume 800 IU daily. This can be achieved through dietary sources, supplements, or both. Achieving the recommended intake prevents serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels from decreasing to less than 12 ng/mL in 97.5% of the general population.

Vitamin D deficiency is associated with higher frailty risk among middle-aged and older adults: a national population-based analysis of NHANES 2007-2018.

BACKGROUND: Although frailty is common in older adults, the relationship between vitamin D and frailty remains unclear. Using NHANES data, this study examined the association between frailty and serum vitamin D in middle-aged and older adults. METHODS: Eight thousand and sixty-four participants aged 40 and older from NHANES (2007-2018) underwent cross-sectional analysis. Serum vitamin D was categorized as deficiency (<25 nmol/L), insufficiency (25-50 nmol/L), or adequate (≥50 nmol/L). Frailty was quantified using a 49-item Frailty Index (FI) based on the cumulative deficit model; frailty was

Vitamin D Receptor Polymorphisms Are Associated with 25(OH)D3 Concentrations and Systemic Inflammation in Decompensated Cirrhosis.

Background/Objectives: Vitamin D regulates both the adaptive and the innate immune system, while having anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory and anti-fibrotic properties. In clinical studies, 25(OH)D3 deficiency was associated with systemic inflammation, but it is unclear whether these associations are causal. In this study, we aimed to investigate the impact of Vitamin D receptor (VDR) polymorphisms (SNPs)-as surrogates for functional relationships-on 25(OH)D3 status and systemic inflammation in decompensated liver cirrhosis. Methods: Patients with compensated and decompensated cirrhosis with

Circadian melatonin suppression and vitamin D deficiency disrupt aortic reactivity via MT1/MT2 and VDR-dependent mechanisms in rats.

Circadian disruption and vitamin D deficiency (VDD) are increasingly prevalent and independently associated with cardiovascular dysfunction. However, their combined impact on vascular reactivity and receptor signaling remains insufficiently defined. This study investigated the independent and interactive effects of melatonin (MEL) suppression induced by continuous light (CL) or pinealectomy (Px) and VDD on vascular contractility, endothelial function, and MT1/vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene expression in rat thoracic aorta. Isolated aortic rings were subjected to cumulative concentration respons

The Impact of Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 Receptor Agonist-Induced Nutritional Deficiencies on Skin Health: A Narrative Review With a Proposed Framework for the Aesthetic Practitioner.

Semaglutide and tirzepatide have reshaped obesity care, and aesthetic practitioners increasingly encounter patients with rapid-weight-loss-associated facial volume loss and skin changes. Nutritional deficiency may be an underrecognized contributor to impaired dermal repair during glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist (GLP-1RA) therapy. The authors reviewed and synthesized evidence across metabolic pharmacology, facial anatomy and aesthetics, dermatologic histology, and clinical nutrition. PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library were searched from January 2019 to March 2026, supplemented by
