Urinary excretion of DA, DOPAC, 3-MT, HVA, NMA, MA, VMA and 5-HIAA were studied in 33 parkinsonian patients treated with 1.5-7.5 g of levodopa daily for up to six months and in 30 patients receiving levodopa (800-1,000 mg) combined with a dopa decarboxylase inhibitor, benserazide (200-250 mg). Basal urinary excretions were within normal limits except for that of 3-MT which was significantly lower in parkinsonian patients as compared to controls. A euthyroid pubertal boy was investigated for short stature and was found to have an elevated serum thyroxine and delayed bone age. In spite of high thyroxine levels, there were no clinical signs of hyperthyroidism and kinetic studies revealed a normal rate of thyroxine metabolism. Plasma TSH levels were elevated but there was no goitre. Administration of up to 900 mug of thyroxine or 225 mug of triiodothyronine led to minimal changes in urinary hydroxyproline excretion, pulse rate and body weight. These observations indicate that this boy has a target organ insensitivity to thyroid hormones.

Three new cases of striato-nigral degeneration (SND) are presented with particular reference to the identification of putaminal pigments. These were studied by histochemical methods, electron microscopy and elemental analysis. Three interrelated parenchymal perikaryal pigments were identified in the putaminal lesions of all 3 patients: a "haematin" pigment, neuromelanin and lipofuscin. Tyrosyluria and for a part also tyrosinemia were studied in 60 healthy prematures of various birth weights and gestational ages. The first analyses were performed between the 6th and the 14th day after birth. A normal milk diet was given and the protein-intake was between 3 and 4 g/kg. After the first collection of urine half the patients received extra ascorbic acid, 100 mg/kg daily. Urinary analyses of tyrosine and p-hydroxyphenyl metabolites were performed once a week, until the excretion of p-hydroxyphenylpyruvic plus p-hydroxyphenyllactic acids was lower than 5 mmoles per gram creatinine.

By means of a modified immune adherence (IA) technique, sera from melanoma patients were tested for the presence of antimelanoma antibodies. In total 13/73 sera tested showed a positive IA reaction of which 4/6 sera showed a positive reaction in the autologous situation.
