During treatment with indomethacin in a patient with Bartter's syndrome, hypokalemia, high plasma renin concentration, hyperaldosteronism and decreased sensitivity to angiotensin infusion were corrected. A patient with Bartter's syndrome in whom the disease was recognized at 52 years of age is described. The uricosuric properties of acetazolamide were investigated in order to elucidate the relationship between changes in proximal tubular sodium reabsorption and urate excretion in man. Acetazolamide produced a modest uricosuric response which was not suppressible by pyrazinamide. The cardiovascular responses to the Valsalva manoeuvre and sustained handgrip were measured in 26 patients with chronic renal failure treated with intermittent haemodialysis.
