HIV-Related Sexual Risk Behaviors Among the Miskito Population in Honduras: Associations With Residence, Sex, and Partnerships in a Cross-Sectional Study.

IntroductionHuman Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) remains a public health issue, particularly among vulnerable populations. Indigenous communities, such as the Miskito people in Honduras, face social and structural inequalities that can influence sexual behaviors and thereby increase the risk of infection. With this study we propose to analyze the factors associated with risky sexual behaviors for HIV acquisition among the Miskito population.MethodsA cross-sectional study selected through multistage random quota sampling; in the multivariable generalized linear model using modified Poisson regres

Early Introduction and Prolonged Full-Dose Anakinra Reduce Recurrence Risk After Discontinuation in Recurrent Pericarditis: An International Multicenter Cohort.

BACKGROUND: Anakinra is effective in recurrent pericarditis, yet optimal treatment duration and strategies for safe drug discontinuation remain uncertain. Identifying predictors of sustained remission after discontinuation is important for clinical management. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed 185 consecutive adult patients with corticosteroid-dependent and colchicine-resistant refractory recurrent pericarditis across 16 international referral centers, who permanently discontinued therapy after clinical remission. The primary end point was pericarditis recurrence after drug discontinuation

Nonlinear 24-Hour Blood Pressure Dynamics in Cognitive Impairment and Dementia.

BACKGROUND: In cognitive impairment and dementia, where biological functions are disrupted, nonlinear dynamics may reflect dysregulation of blood pressure (BP) that might not be captured by linear variability. We investigated whether nonlinear dynamics of 24-hour BP variability are associated with cognitive impairment and dementia. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional analysis of 4854 participants from 3 population-based studies. Raw 24-hour ambulatory BP recordings were structured as time series to quantify nonlinear variability using sample entropy, detrended fluctuation analysis, and Po

Artificial intelligence and digital health in bronchoscopy: advances in diagnostic accuracy, real-time navigation and procedural skills training.

Artificial intelligence (AI) and procedure-linked digital health technologies are beginning to transform bronchoscopy across three interconnected domains. In terms of diagnostic accuracy, deep learning models applied to endobronchial ultrasound images and bronchoscopic videos can match or exceed human readers in differentiating benign from malignant lesions, although nearly all evidence remains at the level of test-accuracy metrics rather than clinical outcomes. In real-time navigation, AI-augmented fluoroscopy and tomosynthesis platforms represent the clearest example of clinically deployed A

Early disruptions in brain capillary blood flow control in a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease.

In Alzheimer's disease (AD), vascular dysfunction and impaired control of brain blood flow can disrupt cellular bioenergetics decades before cognitive decline. Identifying the earliest vascular changes is therefore critical for developing therapies that intervene before the cascading events leading to neuronal decline. Brain energy supply is dynamically controlled by the cerebral vasculature, where capillary thin-strand pericytes are emerging as key players. We recently identified a central role for ATP-sensitive potassium (K+, KATP) channels in enabling thin-strand pericytes to sense local ne
