Capgras syndrome is a psychotic illness characterized by an unshaken false belief in having a close family member replaced by an imposter when there is no evidence of such. The patient described in this case report is a 68-year-old Caucasian female who presented with Capgras syndrome in the context of chronic progressive multiple sclerosis (MS) following an acute COVID-19 illness. She was treated with quetiapine with full resolution of symptoms.

Weight loss is not uncommon in the field of psychiatry; however, when severe cases arise, it necessitates attention and thorough evaluation for accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment. This report highlights the case of a 32-year-old man referred to psychiatry due to significant weight loss. The patient mentioned consuming small food portions, attributing it to an undetected stomach illness despite repeated investigations by previous treating doctors. His current weight stood at 31 kg, with a body mass index (BMI) of 10.2 kg/m². Physical examinations and laboratory investigations were oth

Late-onset psychosis refers to the development of psychotic symptoms after the age of 40 and can encompass various conditions like schizophrenia, mood disorders with psychotic features, and delusional disorder. Non-pharmacological interventions are critically important in older adults with psychosis, especially considering the lack of evidence for the efficacy of antipsychotics and the high risk of side effects. Social isolation is recognized as one of the risks of late-onset psychosis, and interventions to eliminate this risk are becoming increasingly important in Japan, where social isolatio

Objective: Psychosis is one of the most vital disorders in children and youths. The definite pathophysiology of schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders in the growth period has remained ambiguous. Therefore, the purpose of the current study was to investigate the predictive value of parental psychiatric disorders and the mediator role of comorbid disorders of children and youths. Method : The sample, consisting of 29884 individuals aged between 6 to 18 years old from the Iranian population, were selected by multistage cluster sampling during September 22, 2016 to January 3, 2018. Drug-induced lung injury (DILI) occurs when exposure to a drug leads to inflammation and, eventually, fibrosis of the lung interstitium. While DILI is a rare side effect of antipsychotic medication, once it manifests, it requires detailed investigation and prompt treatment. Diagnosing DILI can be challenging at times due to its similarity to conditions such as infectious diseases or interstitial pneumonia induced by other causes. We hereby report a fatal case of suspected DILI associated with olanzapine. A 61-year-old female with a history of delusional disorder was admitted to our hospital du

BACKGROUND: The neurobiological basis of delusional disorder is less explored through neuroimaging techniques than in other psychotic disorders. This study aims to provide information about the neural origins of delusional disorder (DD) by examining the neuroanatomical features of some basal nuclei with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) texture analysis.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Twenty DD patients and 20 healthy individuals were included in the study. Globus pallidus, putamen, and caudate nuclei were selected individually with a region of interest (ROI) on the axial MRI images. The entire textur

In this article we report the case of a man with congenital liver disease who later developed psychotic illness and was diagnosed with schizophrenia. We illustrate how decompensation in liver function was associated with the exacerbation of psychotic symptoms. We discuss differential diagnostic challenges, and the possible overlapping neuropathology in these two conditions that may converge on glutamate/N-methyl-D-aspartate dysfunction. This patient's case underscores the need for further research to elucidate the possible underlying mechanisms linking congenital liver disease and psychosis.

The Dhat syndrome is a culture-bound syndrome associated with anxiety and somatic and mood symptoms related to semen loss. It sometimes occurs in women, in whom it comes with vaginal discharge. Only a single case has been reported whereby Dhat delusion was associated with schizophrenia. In this case report, we dwell on two individuals suffering from a somatic-type delusional disorder with Dhat-like symptoms who had initially presented classical symptoms of the Dhat syndrome. Further studies are needed to explore the intersections of Dhat syndrome and psychoses, as well as the risk factors invo

OBJECTIVES: Anxiety and depressive symptoms, as well as cognitive dysfunctions, improve with abstinence in individuals with alcohol use disorders (AUD), but less is known about psychotic features. The objective of this study was to evaluate the psychosis proneness in a sample of individuals with severe AUD and potential changes after alcohol withdrawal.
METHOD: An observational study was conducted, assessing prospectively Peter's Delusional Inventory scale (PDI); anxiety and depression symptoms by MADRS and cognitive functioning by the MoCA at entry in daycare hospital (D0) and after 30 days

Delusion of pregnancy is a relatively uncommon manifestation in psychotic patients. Differentiating it from closely related clinical entities like pseudocyesis/pseudopregnancy can be a challenge in clinical setting. Diagnosis of a psychotic illness with delusional pregnancy as the presenting feature in the absence of other florid symptoms of psychosis is a different challenge altogether. Currently, there is no consensus on the pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy of delusional pregnancy. We present a case series on delusional pregnancy with the intent to answer some of these gaps in the literatur

OBJECTIVE: Sleep problems are common in patients with psychotic disorders, especially schizophrenia. Although pharmacological methods are at the forefront of treatment, they have some drawbacks. Cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) is an option for the treatment of individuals with insomnia; in recent years, interest in its use in patients with psychotic disorders has been increasing. This meta-analysis aims to evaluate the effectiveness of CBT-I for sleep problems in patients with psychotic disorders.
METHODS: A systematic search of the PubMed, Scopus, and EBSCO (MEDLINE) databa

Recently, a patient was admitted to our department, who reported personality disorder symptoms and a cannabis use disorder. Additionally, a delusional disorder, aggression regulation issues and PTSD were classified. After employing CBT for substance use, the Hero Without Violence module and EMDR, the treatment was completed. Integrated treatment in this patient proved successful regarding the PTSD, aggression regulation problems and SUD. With the described case, the authors hope to provide a clear description of the possibilities of integrated treatment for a patient with complex problems.

BACKGROUND: Delusional infestation (DI) is a well-recognized delusional disorder presenting as the persisting belief of being infested. Combined clinics have been run by dermatology and psychiatry in a small number of centres. In this article we focus on our Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust clinic hosted at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, UK, where we run a specialist clinic for DI.
METHODS: We describe the specific set-up and approach of our clinic as a guide for clinicians working in specialties likely to see patients with DI (including tropical medicine, infec

The modern pace of life, increased susceptibility to stressors, and easy access to psychoactive substances have contributed to the increase in the number of people addicted to alcohol. Alcoholism has serious and life-threatening consequences, one of which is brain damage causing morbid jealousy, otherwise known as Othello syndrome. The disease, currently classified as a subtype of delusional disorder, manifests itself in groundless and dangerous judgments about a partner's sexual infidelity. People with Othello syndrome constantly believe in their partner's infidelity despite inadequate eviden

Schizophrenia and Alzheimer's disease (AD) are distinct neurodegenerative disorders characterized by progressive cognitive deficits and structural alterations in the brain. Schizophrenia typically emerges in adolescence or early adulthood with symptoms such as hallucinations, delusions, and cognitive impairments, whereas AD primarily affects elderly individuals, causing progressive memory loss, cognitive decline, and behavioral changes. Delusional disorder, which often emerges later in life, shares some features with schizophrenia and is considered a schizophrenia spectrum disorder. Patients w

Background In our age of technology, millions of people use the Internet daily for health-related searches and guidance, both patients and caregivers alike. However, health literacy remains notably low among U.S. adults, and this issue is particularly critical for individuals with severe mental illnesses. Poor health literacy is often linked to low socioeconomic status and correlates with adverse patient outcomes and limited healthcare access. With the average reading level of the U.S. adult at the eighth-grade level, guidelines recommend health information be written to match. This study focu
