Do We Actually Need a New Scale? Improving Postpartum Depression Screening in Malaysia: A Narrative Literature Review.

Postpartum depression (PPD) is a major maternal health concern in Malaysia, impacting both maternal well-being and infant development. Despite the availability of several validated screening tools, concerns remain about their cultural appropriateness and diagnostic accuracy in Malaysia's multiethnic context. This narrative review critically evaluates the psychometric properties, contextual relevance, and clinical limitations of PPD screening tools used in Malaysian healthcare. The objective is to assess whether current instruments sufficiently detect PPD in Malaysian women and explore the rati

This study aimed to investigate the associations of maternal depressive and anxiety symptoms across pregnancy trimesters and their trajectories with neurodevelopmental outcomes in children aged 0 to 24 months. METHODS: A total of 16,229 singletons born between January 2020 and December 2023 were included in this prospective study. Maternal

Effects of combined exercise training for adults with resistant major depression: a pilot study from the TRACE-RMD project.

BACKGROUND: This pilot study analyzed the changes in body composition, cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF), biochemical profile, clinical symptoms, and quality of life (QoL) of adults with resistant major depression (RMD) following 12 weeks of combined exercise training. METHODS: Eighteen adults diagnosed with RMD (42.5 ± 9.9 years, 66.7% women) participated in a supervised exercise group (2 days/week). The combined exercise training consisted of low-to-moderate intensity aerobic interval exercise on a bicycle and strength-resistance exercises. All variables were assessed pre- and post-interventi

The effect of COVID-19 during pregnancy on postpartum depression and mother-infant attachment.

BACKGROUND: The psychiatric impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic are well-documented; however, its effects during the postnatal period have been less explored. AIMS: We aimed to investigate the effect of COVID-19 on mother-infant attachment and postnatal depression in pregnant women during the pandemic. METHODS: The study group consisted of women with the diagnosis of 'pregnancy and COVID-19' after the 20th gestational week (n = 55). The control group included women who did not have a history of COVID-19 in their pregnancy or until the study date (n = 52). Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale (

Informing the dimensional classification of mania: A daily diary study of symptom-level structure.

The optimal classification of mania symptoms within dimensional models such as the Hierarchical Taxonomy of Psychopathology remains unclear, although progress has been made recently. We extend dimensional classification research by assessing mania and other domains at the symptom level using a longitudinal, daily diary design (7-day period). Participants (N = 230; 1,243 total surveys) were adults recruited online based on having a self-identified history of significant mental health issues. Consistent with recent cross-sectional research, mania symptoms associated strongly with thought disorde

Social and obstetric risk factors of antenatal depression: A cross-sectional study in China.

BACKGROUND: Antenatal depression is a disabling mental disorder among pregnant women and may cause adverse outcomes for both the mother and the offspring. Early identification and intervention of antenatal depression can help to prevent adverse outcomes. However, there have been few population-based studies focusing on the association of social and obstetric risk factors with antenatal depression in China. AIM: To assess the sociodemographic and obstetric factors of antenatal depression and compare the network structure of depressive symptoms across different risk levels based on a large Chin

Cardiac rehabilitation for workers with ischemic heart disease: Benefits for cardiovascular health and quality of life.

Cardiac rehabilitation programs (CRPs) are multifactorial interventions defined by the World Health Organization as essential strategies to improve patients' health-related quality of life (HRQoL) by enhancing their physical, psychological, social, and occupational well-being. These programs are a cornerstone in the comprehensive treatment of heart disease, facilitating the recovery of functional capacity and reintegration into the workforce through a multidisciplinary approach. The objective of this study was to assess the efficacy of CRPs in enhancing functional capacity (cardiac and psychol

Assessing characteristics of mother-infant dyadic synchrony among vulnerable mothers using the Infant CARE-Index.

OBJECTIVE: The postnatal period crucially influences the mother-infant relationship and subsequently the infant's cognitive, physical, and psychosocial development. Poor maternal mental health may impact early interactions, potentially causing the infant's developmental needs to go neglected. METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, we used the Infant CARE-Index to examine mother-infant interaction patterns among mothers with a history of depression and/or anxiety. Ten mother-infant dyads recruited from a Danish obstetric department participated in video recordings of mother-infant interaction

Identification and validation of postpartum depression subtypes: a population-based cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Postpartum depression (PPD) affects 18% of postpartum women globally. PPD is a heterogeneous condition with diverse presentations, which may differ in underlying etiology, potential outcomes, and optimal treatment. This study aimed to identify and validate PPD subtypes using comprehensive phenotypic and genetic data from a large, nationwide cohort. METHODS: In this population-based cohort study, we used data from the Norwegian Mother, Father, and Child Cohort Study and Medical Birth Registry of Norway (MoBa), and applied unsupervised clustering (Uniform Manifold Approximation and

Latent profile analysis of fear of progression in Chinese hematologic malignancy survivors.

Fear of disease progression (FoP) is a multidimensional concept that refers to the fear or worry about disease progress. Little is known about the distinct FoP profiles and their determinants in culturally specific contexts, especially among hematologic malignancies (HM) patients in China. This study aimed to identify heterogeneous profiles of FoP and their associated predictors among Chinese patients with HM. A convenience sample of patients suffering from HM were enrolled from March 2023 to February 2024. To gather multidimensional data from the Fear of Progression Questionnaire-Short Form (

The efficacy of genetic counselling for familial colorectal cancer. A randomised clinical trial.

Genetic counselling (GC) for familial colorectal cancer (fCRC) has been previously shown to improve outcomes such as emotional distress and screening adherence. This is the first randomised clinical trial to evaluate the efficacy of GC for fCRC. We included individuals affected or at-risk for fCRC (Lynch syndrome, APC-associated polyposis, other risk-associated pathogenic variants and clinically defined fCRC). Participants were randomised to (1) standard care or (2) standard care and genetic counselling. Measures include empowerment, anxiety, depression, knowledge, emotional distress, perceive
