Feedback-based training reduces ensemble perception bias of facial emotions in individuals with high social anxiety: A single-session randomized controlled trial.

People can efficiently extract summary statistics from a set of objects-a process known as ensemble perception-including the average emotion of a facial crowd. Individuals with high social anxiety, however, tend to perceive facial crowds as more negative, reflecting a systematic perceptual bias. Because the ability to interpret group emotions is important to adaptive social functioning, this study examined whether a feedback-based training paradigm could reduce ensemble perception bias, and whether its effects varied by social anxiety. A total of 120 Korean university students were randomly as

Emotion regulation in short-term dynamic therapy: Attachment-moderated changes and bidirectional temporal associations with symptoms.

This study examined changes in emotion regulation difficulties during short-term dynamic psychotherapy and their temporal relationship with symptom change, considering attachment styles as potential moderators. Sixty-three patients with mild to moderate depression and/or anxiety underwent 16 weeks of supportive-expressive therapy. Emotion regulation difficulties, symptoms, and attachment styles were assessed using self-report measures. Contrary to hypotheses, no overall improvement in emotion regulation difficulties was observed. However, patients with high attachment avoidance showed increase

Reciprocal Dynamics of Therapeutic Alliance and Depressive Symptoms in Inpatient Cognitive Behavioural Analysis System of Psychotherapy: The Role of Attachment Insecurity.

BACKGROUND: Persistent depressive disorder (PDD) is marked by interpersonal dysfunction, presenting significant challenges for effective treatment. The Cognitive Behavioural Analysis System of Psychotherapy (CBASP) is specifically designed for PDD, offering a structured framework to foster a meaningful therapeutic relationship. However, its effectiveness in patients with attachment insecurities-commonly observed in PDD-remains unclear. This study examined the bidirectional relationship between the therapeutic working alliance and depressive symptoms, alongside the moderating role of attachment

Differential effects of the circle of security-parenting programme on infant-mother attachment: The role of infant temperament.

BACKGROUND: Infant negative emotionality (NE) may increase the risk of insecure-resistant attachment, particularly amid postpartum depression, but may also heighten receptivity to intervention. This secondary study tested whether infant NE moderates the effect of Circle of Security Parenting™ (COSP™) on infant-mother attachment. METHOD: In a randomized trial (N = 297) involving dyads with maternal depression and/or infant social withdrawal, infant-mother attachment was assessed at 12-16 months; Infant NE was measured at 2-4 months. RESULTS: Higher infant NE increased the risk of insecure-res

Inner strengths as buffers against the impact of insecure attachment on depressive symptoms in working women.

BACKGROUND: Depressive symptoms are often associated with insecure attachment. In China, working mothers are particularly vulnerable due to the intersecting pressures of work and familial responsibilities. Emerging evidence suggests that inner strength-including resilience, emotional regulation, and positive coping-may buffer the impact of insecure attachment on depressive symptoms in this population. OBJECTIVE: The primary objective was to determine whether inner strengths moderate the relationship between insecure attachment and depressive symptoms among Chinese working mothers. A secondary

Discrepancies between self- and partner-reported maternal depressive symptoms during pregnancy: roles of maternal attachment and partner depressive symptoms.

Maternal depressive symptoms during pregnancy are common but often go undetected. Partner reports on maternal depressive symptoms offer meaningful insights beyond self-report, yet little is known about the psychological and relational factors that shape partner reports. In 85 mother-father dyads assessed during pregnancy, we examined associations between self-reported and father-reported maternal depressive symptoms and predictors of informant discrepancies. While father-reported maternal depressive symptoms were moderately correlated with maternal self-reports, 39% of dyads disagreed on wheth

Association Between Depression and Medication Adherence Among Post-myocardial Infarction Patients in a South Asian Clinical Setting.

BACKGROUND: Medication adherence is vital for successful recovery after a myocardial infarction (MI). Unfortunately, many patients experience depression following an MI, which can negatively affect their ability to stick to prescribed medication plans. It is important to explore how depression influences medication adherence, especially in South Asian clinical environments where cultural factors can significantly impact health outcomes. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was carried out among 385 post-MI patients who attended outpatient clinics in Islamabad, Pakistan. The Patient Health Questio

Post-traumatic growth, depression and anxiety among hemodialysis patients: a latent profile analysis.

Hemodialysis is the primary life-sustaining treatment for patients with end-stage kidney disease, which can result in a range of negative reactions (e.g. depression and anxiety) and positive change (e.g. post-traumatic growth, PTG). To further understand the post-traumatic response patterns of patients who are going through hemodialysis, dividing them into homogeneous subgroups helps to uncover hidden information. This cross-sectional study evaluated 274 patients (172 males and 102 females) undergoing hemodialysis at a tertiary hospital between October and November 2022. Latent profile analysi

Heterocycle-fused phenylcyclohexylamines as novel multi-target antagonists of N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor and monoamine transporter for treating depression.

Simultaneously modulating the glutamatergic and monoaminergic systems represents a promising strategy for treating depression. In this study, a series of multi-target antagonists targeting both NMDAR and monoamine transporters (SERT, DAT, and NET) was designed and evaluated for their antidepressant potential in vitro and in vivo. Among these heterocycle-fused phenylcyclohexylamine derivatives, compound A16 demonstrated potent and relatively balanced multi-target activity (A16: IC50(NMDAR): IC50(SERT): IC50(DAT): IC50(NET) = 1.8:1.0:1.9:1.3) compared to the lead compound S1.
