Hearing loss, hearing-aid use, and mortality risk: individual participant data meta-analysis of population-based studies from Australia, Iceland, and the USA and a replication study from Norway.

BACKGROUND: Hearing loss is associated with poorer health, depression, cognitive decline, and perhaps, with increased mortality risk. Whether hearing aids ameliorate this association is not well understood. We conducted a meta-analysis with a replication study to examine associations between hearing loss, current use of hearing aids, and mortality. METHODS: Hearing threshold data, all-cause mortality, and cardiovascular disease (CVD)-related mortality (available across datasets) were analysed using individual participant data (IPD) meta-analysis of three combined population-based studies: Blu

Transcranial alternating current stimulation for major depressive disorder: An updated systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized trials with GRADE assessment.

PURPOSE: Transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS) may modulate neural oscillations implicated in major depressive disorder (MDD). This systematic review and meta-analysis assessed the efficacy, follow-up effects, tolerability, and safety of tACS in adults with MDD. METHODS: PubMed/MEDLINE, CENTRAL, Scopus, Web of Science Core Collection, and Embase were searched from inception to March 29, 2026, for randomized controlled trials of active tACS in adults with MDD. Primary analyses compared active tACS with sham or inactive control, while active-protocol comparisons were analyzed sepa

Reactions to Sexual Assault Disclosure Related to Posttraumatic Stress and Depression Symptoms via Self-Compassion Among College Women.

Women who disclose sexual assault (SA) may receive positive (supportive) or negative (unsupportive) reactions from others upon disclosure. The study tested indirect effects from negative and positive SA disclosure reactions to posttraumatic stress and depression symptoms via two aspects of self-compassion (compassionate and uncompassionate self-responding) and fear of self-compassion. The presence of child maltreatment was examined as a moderator of all effects. The sample consisted of 300 college women in the United States (M age = 18.83 years, standard deviation = 1.00; 93.7% White) who had

Associations of physical activity bout duration and fragmentation with future dementia, depression, and anxiety: a multi-modal UK Biobank study.

It's unclear whether prolonged physical activity confers greater benefits on future dementia, depression, and anxiety risk than sporadic activity. Among 66,483 UK Biobank participants, we found that prolonged daily bouts of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) and lower activity fragmentation were associated with a significantly lower risk of future dementia, depression, and anxiety, independent of total physical activity. Compared with never engaging in MVPA, the lowest observed risk of dementia, depression, and anxiety occurred for bouts lasting 13 min (72% lower), 36 min (52% lower

Characterising mental health and organisational outcomes in Bristol's night time economy workforce: a cross-sectional online survey.

BACKGROUND: Working at night poses several physiological and psychological barriers to mental health, which could influence organisational productivity through presenteeism (coming to work when ill) and turnover intention. Yet, the prevalence of poor mental health and its association with organisational outcomes is not clearly defined in the Night Time Economy (NTE). METHODS: This cross-sectional online survey aimed to characterise and compare mental health (anxiety, depression, mental well-being, burnout) and organisational outcomes (presenteeism, work engagement and turnover intentions) in

Development and Psychometric Validation of the Mistreatment Questionnaire for Medical Trainees (MQMT) in Mexican Medical Students, Interns, and Residents.

Introduction: Mistreatment in medical training is a highly prevalent phenomenon that occurs in different types and forms. However, despite its high frequency, no measurement instrument has been validated that represents these different types of mistreatment in its factorial structure. Therefore, the objective of this study was to design the Mistreatment Questionnaire for Medical Trainees (MQMT) and to obtain initial evidence of its validity and reliability. Methods: Medical trainees at different stages (non-clinical and clinical undergraduate medical students, interns, and residents) were invi

(Un)aware of change? Objective and subjective reactivity to the sensor-based measurement of physical activity and sedentary behaviour.

OBJECTIVES: Despite being the gold standard for assessing physical activity (PA) under free-living conditions, accelerometer-based assessments are prone to measurement reactivity, that is, changes in people's cognitions, emotions or behaviour due to being measured. Little is known about whether participants are aware of these changes. This preregistered secondary analysis assesses objective and subjective reactivity to the sensor-based measurement of PA (steps, light PA [LPA], moderate-to-vigorous PA [MVPA]) and sedentary behaviour (SB) in adults with and without attention-deficit/hyperactivit

[Long-term outcomes after ankle fracture-Where do we stand?].

With an incidence of approximately 74 per 100,000 people per year, ankle fractures are among the most frequent fractures in adults and are considered a major cause of posttraumatic ankle osteoarthritis. Reliable long-term data (≥ 10 years) are scarce. The aim of this study was to review the existing literature regarding long-term treatment outcomes following surgical management of ankle fractures. A narrative literature review was conducted. Studies were identified that reported on the treatment outcomes of surgically managed ankle fractures with a follow-up period of at least 10 years. Exercise-level differences in depressive symptoms among rural Chinese adolescents: Gender-specific patterns and an indirect link through body satisfaction.

BACKGROUND: Physical exercise is associated with fewer depressive symptoms in adolescence, but variation by exercise volume and gender and the role of body satisfaction remain understudied among rural adolescents. METHODS: Cross-sectional data were collected from 2837 Grade 7-9 students in rural China (mean age = 14.60 years, SD = 1.08; 52.5% girls). Depressive symptoms, body satisfaction, and physical exercise were assessed using the CES-D-10, a five-item subscale of the NPSS, and the PARS-3, respectively. Exercise volume was classified as minimal, low, moderate, or high. Regression models w

Distress to Novelty as a Potential Moderator on the Relationship between Maternal Depressiveness and Mother-Infant Interaction Quality.

INTRODUCTION: Maternal depression impacts infant cognitive and behavioral development and is linked to reduced maternal sensitivity, negatively impacting mother-infant interaction. Infant's temperament - particularly higher difficulty or lower positive temperament - might moderate this relationship. However, no known study has examined infant temperament as a moderator between maternal psychopathology and mother-infant interaction quality. We hypothesized that greater expression of maternal depressiveness would predict lower interaction quality, moderated by infant's higher difficult temperame

Dorsolateral prefrontal TMS-evoked N100 as a neurophysiological correlate of symptom change in adolescent depression.

BACKGROUND: Major depressive disorder (MDD) is highly prevalent in adolescence. Up to 30% of patients insufficiently benefit from first-line treatments, underscoring the need for improved treatment strategies and better understanding of pathophysiology. In depression, an imbalance between cortical excitation and inhibition in the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC), assessed by the TMS-evoked N100 potential, is suggested as one of several contributing neurobiological mechanisms. While elevated N100 amplitudes have been observed in depressed adults and adolescents, its association with sympt

Perceived social support and mental health among shidu parents: The moderating role of stigma following the loss of an only child.

Perceived social support is a psychosocial resource that protects the mental health of parents who have lost an only child (shidu parents), but its benefits likely vary depending on stigma-a challenge that these parents face in social contexts. We used data from 482 shidu parents (Mage = 66.63, SDage = 6.88) who reported perceived support (overall and by specific source, family, peer, and others), depressive symptoms, perceived stigma, and demographic characteristics. Linear regressions showed that family support and others support were negatively associated with depressive symptoms, consisten
