A Digital Tool for Culturally Responsive Reflection and Case Conceptualization in First-Line Services to Support Children With a Refugee Background: Development and Usability Study.

BACKGROUND: In 2023, over 117 million people were forcibly displaced worldwide, 40% of them children. Refugee children are at higher risk for posttraumatic stress disorder, depression, and anxiety, while professionals may struggle to address mental health and trauma-related concerns across unfamiliar cultural contexts. The Psychiatry Assisting the Culturally Diverse Community in Creating Healing Ties (PACCT) approach supports culturally responsive care for culturally diverse families, but first-line professionals often lack practical support to apply such an approach in routine care. Longitudinal associations between loneliness and outcomes of Common Mental Disorders (CMDs): A systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Loneliness has been increasingly associated with poor mental health outcomes, yet its prognostic role in people with Common Mental Disorders (CMDs) remains unclear. This systematic review aimed to examine whether loneliness is longitudinally associated with mental health outcomes in individuals with CMDs, regardless of treatment status. METHODS: We searched PsycINFO, MEDLINE, Embase and CINAHL from inception to October 2025 for longitudinal studies examining associations between baseline loneliness and CMD outcomes at follow-up. Eligible studies included adults aged 16+ with CMDs.

Lamotrigine-Associated Visual and Tactile Hallucinations in a Patient With Bipolar Disorder: A Case Report.

Bipolar disorder is a chronic psychiatric illness characterized by recurrent episodes of mood disturbance and significant functional impairment. Bipolar depression is one of the most common and disabling manifestations of the disorder, contributing substantially to its overall disease burden. Lamotrigine is recommended as a first-line treatment for acute bipolar depression and for the prevention of depressive relapse. It is also recommended as an adjunctive strategy in combination with mood stabilizers for patients with persistent depressive symptoms. Despite its favorable tolerability profile

Why did antidepressant deprescribing fail? A scoping review of contributing factors.

BACKGROUND: Antidepressant use continues to rise in primary care, often beyond recommended durations. Previous reviews have found insufficient evidence to support long-term antidepressant discontinuation compared with maintenance treatment. OBJECTIVE: To describe how antidepressant deprescribing interventions have been designed in primary care and identify features that explore potential reasons for limited effectiveness. DESIGN: Scoping review following Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for scoping reviews (PRISMA-ScR) guidance. DATA SOURCES: PubM

[Prevalence and socio-medical performance among unemployed people in Germany - Analysis of data of the Medical Service of the Federal Employment Agency].

INTRODUCTION: The fundamental association between unemployment and health problems has long been recognized. This raises questions about the most common illnesses among unemployed people and any resulting loss of productivity. The aim of the study is to present the 20 most common illnesses among unemployed people examined by the Medical Service (ÄD) of the Federal Employment Agency (BA) and to analyze any resulting loss of productivity for the (general) labor market and other associated factors. METHODS: For this multi-year cross-sectional study study (2016-2021), the 20 most common diseases/

Delay discounting correlates with depression but does not predict relapse after antidepressant discontinuation.

Approximately one third of people with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) experience a relapse within six months of discontinuing antidepressant medication (ADM), however, reliable predictors of relapse following ADM discontinuation are currently lacking. A putative behavioural predictor is delay discounting, which measures a person's impatience to receive reward. Previous studies have linked delay discounting to both MDD and reduced serotonergic function, rendering it a plausible candidate predictor. In this multi-site study we measured delay discounting in participants with remitted MDD (N = 97

Antithrombotic agents in the treatment of severe mental illness: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

Evidence suggests shared pathophysiologic mechanisms between severe mental illness (SMI) and cardiovascular disease (CVD). Drugs used for CVD, such as antithrombotic agents (ATAs), may therefore be repurposed for the treatment of SMI. We conducted the first systematic review and meta-analysis (PROSPERO registration CRD42024524420) of ATAs for SMI and reported results according to PRISMA guidelines. We searched MEDLINE, Embase, and PsycINFO (October 10, 2024) and performed random-effects meta-analysis. Risk of bias was assessed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias 2 tool, and the certainty of eviden

Adams-Oliver Syndrome Type 3: A Case Report of Concurrent RBPJ, CACNA1A, and Double-Heterozygous MTHFR Variants.

Background and Clinical Significance: Adams-Oliver syndrome type 3 (AOS3) is a rare congenital disorder typically characterised by terminal transverse limb defects and variable involvement of other organ systems. Although pathogenic variants in RBPJ are well established in AOS3, associated neurodevelopmental or psychiatric features have been only sporadically documented. Case Presentation: We describe a male patient first evaluated at the age of 10 years and subsequently re-evaluated at 14 years, with AOS3 presenting terminal limb defects together with autistic-like behaviour, cognitive diffic

The Use of Behavioral Reconsolidation Interference in Depressive Disorders. A Double-Blinded Randomized Controlled Experimental Registered Report.

Depressive disorders often show recurrent courses that cannot be sufficiently prevented by existing therapeutic protocols. In other affective disorders, recurrence has been linked to three mechanisms -spontaneous recovery, accelerated new/relearning, and reinstatement- which are related to the preservation of disorder-related memory traces even through successful extinction-based interventions. Reconsolidation-interference protocols aim to directly alter such traces by reactivating and destabilizing them before intervention. While this approach has shown benefits in fear, craving, and trauma-r

Investigating the association between post-traumatic stress disorder and REM sleep behavior disorder: a systematic review.

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is frequently accompanied by additional sleep disturbances, such as nightmares and insomnia. Recent findings suggest a potential association between PTSD and REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD). This systematic review evaluates the current evidence on the PTSD-RBD relationship, with attention to prevalence, diagnostic approaches, shared pathophysiological mechanisms, and clinical implications. A comprehensive search of PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE, and PsycINFO was conducted up to July 2025. Eligible studies included observational, cohort, and experimental

Sex-dependent disruption of affective behaviors by GBR 12909: relevance to bipolar disorders.

Bipolar disorders (BD) are defined by a chronic recurrence of manic and depressive phases. Along with mood, acute phases are associated with altered emotions. The biological underpinnings of these changes are unresolved, mostly because modeling the cycling nature of BD is still a major challenge in preclinical studies. One pharmacological model is based on GBR 12909 administration, a dopamine transporter inhibitor aiming at mimicking some dimensions of mania. Recent findings indicate that this model generates a mixed phenotype, combining hyperlocomotion with negative hedonic biases and anxiety

Fear of Cancer Recurrence and Adaptation in Early Breast Cancer Survivorship: A Latent Profile Analysis.

The fear of cancer recurrence (FCR) is one of the most frequently expressed concerns among breast cancer (BC) survivors. This study explored profiles of FCR and adaptation indicators, centring on body image and 'bouncing back', 18 months post-diagnosis. It also examined psycho-social predictors for profiles. The study sample comprised 494 women from Finland, Italy, Portugal, and Israel, diagnosed with Stage I-III BC. Participants' ages ranged from 40 to 70 years (M = 54.92, SD = 8.22) and were assessed at diagnosis and after 3 and 18 months. Participants completed self-report questionnaires, i

One-Year Actigraphy Study of Sleep and Rest-Activity Rhythms as Markers of Relapse in Depression.

IMPORTANCE: Given its recurrent nature and burden, major depressive disorder (MDD) warrants reliable methods of relapse prediction. OBJECTIVE: To determine whether actigraphy-derived parameters, measured over 1 to 2 years, are associated with relapse. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: This was an observational cohort study with data collection from July 2016 to January 2019. The setting was multicentric. A referred sample of participants from outpatient psychiatric and primary care clinics across Canada were followed up for 1 to 2 years. Participants had a diagnosis of MDD and Montgomery-Ås

Sleep disturbances are common in late-onset epilepsy of unknown origin.

OBJECTIVE: The bidirectional relationship between epilepsy and sleep is well established. People with epilepsy frequently experience sleep and wake disturbances, which may be more frequent in older adults. With 15%-20% of epilepsy cases presenting as late-onset epilepsy of unknown etiology (LOEU), this study aimed to assess subjective sleep quality and daytime sleepiness in LOEU patients compared to older adults without neurological and psychiatric diseases. METHODS: This observational study included 78 LOEU patients (55.1% males, mean age 68.29 ± 8.01 y.o.) diagnosed at Epilepsy Centers in R

Prediction models for suicide reattempts by lasso regression through machine learning models: Single versus multiple suicide attempters.

The best predictor of a suicide attempt is a previous attempt, apart from psychiatric diagnoses also associated. Some studies found other indicators of great risk for suicide reattempts. Machine Learning algorithms offer the potential for systematic detection of features that carry greater risk for an event. This study sought to develop a classification algorithm distinguishing between Single Suicide Attempters (SSA) and Multiple Suicide Attempters (MSA) in a Spanish multicentre national cohort to explore prediction of subsequent attempts in suicidal patients. Two models including the same soc

Suicidal ideation during a major depressive episode predicts chronic or recurrent depression: A three-year national study.

OBJECTIVE: Although suicidal ideation (SI) is commonly regarded as a symptom of major depressive episodes (MDE), emerging evidence suggests it may carry prognostic significance for the depressive illness. This study examined whether SI during a MDE independently predicts risk of recurrence or chronicity over a three-years period. METHODS: Data were drawn from Waves 1 and 2 of the National Epidemiologic Survey on Alcohol and Related Conditions (NESARC), a nationally representative survey of U.S. adults. We included 2853 participants with past-year DSM-IV MDE at Wave 1 who completed Wave 2 asse
