Analysis of the current status and influencing factors of kinesiophobia in tumor patients with peripherally inserted central catheter: A cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters (PICCs) are widely utilized in tumor patients due to their lower risk of complications, extended indwelling duration, reduced local tissue trauma, and overall cost-effectiveness. Based on the Health Action Process Approach (HAPA) theory, this study aims to explore the current status and influencing factors of kinesiophobia in tumor patients with PICCs. The study provides reference for clarifying the mechanism of kinesiophobia and developing nursing intervention plans. METHOD: Through convenience sampling, 162 tumor patients who underwent PIC

Subclinical Variation in Mental Health Shapes the Dynamics of Everyday Behaviour.

Everyday behaviour is comprised of myriad components that must be seamlessly coordinated for action to be effective. Individual differences, specifically variation in mental health symptoms, influence how this challenge is navigated, however, their impact in naturalistic settings remains unclear. Adopting a dynamical systems perspective, here we examined whether subclinical variation in symptoms associated with social anxiety disorder (SAD) and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) modulate individual movement dynamics during an everyday activity - walking on a university campus. Participants (n = 93

Tolerability and Safety of 30 Intensified Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation Sessions in Entomophobia Treatment.

Recently, the effectiveness of noninvasive brain stimulation (NIBS) techniques, such as transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), has been shown in psychiatric disorders. Here, a new, intensified protocol has been developed, which is suggested to induce late-phase long-term potentiation (LTP)-like plasticity, and increase efficacy of the intervention. In the present case report, we evaluated the effectiveness of a new intensified tDCS protocol (30 sessions, 2 mA for 20 min, 2 sessions daily with a 20 min interval between daily sessions, for 15 d) applied to the left ventromedial prefront

Integration nodes: the language of fear and cognitive repair in phobic memoirs.

Phobias unsettle not only the emotions but the cognitive and linguistic structures through which fear is experienced and expressed. This article examines how contemporary memoirs, Sarah Chihaya's Bibliophobia, Nicolette Heaton-Harris's Living with Emetophobia: Coping with Extreme Fear of Vomiting, Sara Benincasa's Agorafabulous! Dispatches from my bedroom and Russell Norris's Red Face: How I Learnt to Live with Social Anxiety, translate the somatic immediacy of panic into language. Drawing on Mary Helen Immordino-Yang's Emotion-Cognition Framework, which proposes that emotional and reflective

Comparing physical activity practice, pain and psychological characteristics in individuals with fibromyalgia and individuals with low back pain.

BACKGROUND: Chronic primary low back pain (CLBP) and fibromyalgia (FM) have complex etiologies and management approaches. Further research is needed, particularly on subgroups like individuals with CLBP who also report signs and symptoms of FM (CLBP/FM+) to better understand their pain mechanisms and clinical profile. Examining psychological, pain-related characteristics, and physical activity could help identify subgroups of individuals with CLBP/FM+ and guide the development of targeted interventions. This study aimed to compare physical activity practice, pain and psychological characterist

The lived experience of social anxiety disorder: A conceptual model focused on adolescents and young adults based on published literature and social media listening.

Social anxiety disorder (SAD) affects up to 1 in 8 individuals over their lifetime and is characterized by an intense fear of social situations involving unfamiliar people or possible scrutiny. This retrospective observational study reviewed published literature from PubMed and analyzed data from Reddit using social media listening (SML) to understand the lived experience of individuals with SAD. SML offers a complement to traditional methods such as semi-structured interviews, particularly for individuals for whom interacting with strangers is challenging. A stepwise analysis, aligned with US

Effects of change in dysfunctional beliefs and self-esteem in avatar-based cognitive therapy for symptoms of social anxiety disorder: a randomized parallel trial.

Social anxiety is both highly prevalent and debilitating, with dysfunctional beliefs playing a crucial role in its persistence. This randomized controlled trial examined whether a remote avatar-based intervention for restructuring dysfunctional beliefs was associated with changes in social anxiety symptoms in a sample with subclinical social anxiety disorder (SAD). Data from N = 235 participants who completed all study stages were included in the analyses. While participants in the intervention group were tasked with contradicting their personal dysfunctional beliefs verbalized by the avatar,

Within-person Relations among Paternal and Maternal Child-oriented Perfectionism, Harsh Parenting, and Child Social Anxiety: A Five-wave Prospective Study.

While extant research has well established multiple familial risk factors for child social anxiety, scarce research has examined how parental child-oriented perfectionism may contribute to children’s social anxiety. This study tracked 2228 Chinese adolescents (baseline Mage = 12.95 ± 0.79 years, 46.3% girls) with five measurements over three years. Using the Random Intercept Cross-Lagged Panel Model (RI-CLPM), results indicated that harsh fathering can predict subsequent fathers’ and mothers’ child-oriented perfectionism, but fathers’ and mothers’ child-oriented perfectionism fail to predict s

A neuro-behavioural model of neophobia.

Fear can be defined as the internal neurological state that releases a repertoire of behaviours an animal performs to reduce the effect of an aversive factor. Neophobia, the fear of novelty, is a fundamental behavioural trait observed across a wide range of species from arthropods to humans. It has been extensively studied by ecologists and psychologists for decades. However, despite its roots in fear, there is a surprising lack of connection between the literature on neophobia and the rich body of research on the neurology of fear. Fear has been studied at the hormonal, network, and cellular
