A psychometric evaluation of the Severity Measure for Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD-DY) in Australian adolescents.

BACKGROUND: Social anxiety disorder (SAD) is the most common psychiatric disorder of adolescence and appears to be increasing in prevalence. Early detection can reduce negative outcomes. The Severity Measure for Social Anxiety Disorder-Child 11-17 (SAD-DY) was the first youth social anxiety measure developed based on the DSM-5, however, psychometric evaluation is needed. METHOD: A community sample of 315 Australian adolescents aged 11 to 17 years was surveyed online. Participants completed the SAD-DY, along with measures of convergent and discriminant validity. RESULTS: The measure was found

The relationship between fear of negative evaluation and social anxiety: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Fear of negative evaluation (FNE) is widely regarded as a central cognitive component of social anxiety (SA). However, the strength and stability of the association between FNE and SA, as well as potential moderating factors, remain unclear. This study aimed to systematically synthesize existing evidence on the relationship between FNE and SA and to examine potential moderators. METHODS: This systematic review and meta-analysis followed PRISMA 2020 guidelines and was registered in PROSPERO (CRD42024619488). A systematic search of major databases was conducted for studies published

Structural Validity and Measurement Properties of the Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia in Knee Osteoarthritis: Comparison of Candidate Factor Structures.

PURPOSE: Kinesiophobia is clinically relevant in knee osteoarthritis (KOA), but the appropriate Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia (TSK) structure remains uncertain. We compared candidate TSK factor structures and examined the selected measurement properties of the solution with the most favourable relative fit in this sample. METHODS: Among 119 participants with KOA, ordinal confirmatory factor analysis tested three a priori structures: one-factor 17-item, one-factor 11-item, and two-factor 11-item. After three items in the two-factor 11-item structure had loadings below 0.20, a secondary explora

Social Anxiety Symptoms and Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviour Severity in Adolescents: A Serial Mediation Analysis of Shame and Emotion Regulation Difficulties.

Body-focused repetitive behaviour disorders (BFRBDs), including trichotillomania (TTM) and skin-picking disorder (SPD), typically emerge during adolescence. These disorders have been conceptualized within emotion regulation models, in which body-focused repetitive behaviours (BFRBs) may function as attempts to regulate aversive emotional states. Although anxiety frequently co-occurs with BFRBDs, its association with BFRB severity is generally modest, highlighting the need to examine affective and regulatory processes. This cross-sectional study examined the associations among social anxiety, s

Stiff-Person Syndrome: A Comprehensive Review of a Rare Disease with Emphasis on Pathophysiology, Clinical Features, Diagnostic Challenges and Therapeutic Advances.

Stiff-person syndrome (SPS) is an rare autoimmune neurological disorder that is associated with progressive axial and proximal muscle rigidity, stimulus-sensitive painful spasms, and significant functional disability. The disorder is commonly associated with high-titer antibodies against glutamic acid decarboxylase-65 (GAD65), leading to impaired gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA)-mediated inhibitory neurotransmission, resulting in persistent motor neuron hyperexcitability. Despite the conventional classification of SPS as a motor disorder, the condition commonly occurs with neuropsychiatric sympt

ADVANCES IN RESEARCH OF PSYCHOTHERAPY FOR SOCIAL ANXIETY DISORDER.

Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD) is a common anxiety disorder characterized by a persistent fear of negative evaluation, avoidance of social situations, and significant impairment in social functioning. Psychological interventions for SAD have expanded considerably in recent years, with increasing attention to treatment mechanisms, alternative delivery formats, and emerging intervention targets. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) remains one of the most extensively studied psychological treatments for SAD, while mindfulness-based interventions, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Virtual Rea

Reward Deficits in Co-Occurring Social Anxiety and Depression: The Roles of Anhedonia, Boredom, Loneliness, and COVID-19 Social Restriction.

Prior research points toward reward deficits as crucial to the link between social anxiety disorder and major depressive disorder. However, studies have not explored specific types of reward deficits or how social-environmental factors may impact them. The current study examined whether the indirect effects of three reward deficits (anhedonia, boredom, and loneliness) accounted for the connection between social anxiety and depression. Questionnaires were collected in a sample of college students (N = 523) during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic, allowing examination of environmental str

Identifying a structural brain network for social anxiety: connectome-based predictive modeling and network analyses in a transdiagnostic sample.

Trait social anxiety (SA) is continuous and can manifest across the entire spectrum of mental health, from subclinical levels in healthy controls to burdensome manifestations in major depressive disorder and finally full-blown disorders like social anxiety disorder (SAD). Although it has been proposed that SA is associated with deviations in the structural connectome, there is little research on the SA spectrum and its relation to abnormalities in brain structural networks. In this study, we aim to identify a structural brain network for SA across diagnostic groups using a transdiagnostic samp
