Impact of Information Overload on Fear of Disease Progression in Surgical Patients: Serial Mediation by Decisional Conflict and Generalized Anxiety.

This study investigates how information overload influences fear of disease progression among 579 surgical patients at a tertiary hospital in China, specifically examining the independent and serial mediating effects of decisional conflict and generalized anxiety. Using validated scales and a chain mediation model with bias-corrected bootstrapping, the results demonstrate that information overload significantly predicts increased decisional conflict, anxiety, and fear of disease progression. Path analysis confirmed a significant direct effect of information overload on fear, while also identif

Gender differences in the association between anxiety and behavioral problems in 31,400 Chinese children: a cross-sectional regression and network analysis.

BACKGROUND: Child anxiety and behavioral problems are significant global public health concerns. Traditional methods often fail to capture intricate symptom interactions. This study used network analysis to explore the relationship between anxiety and behavioral problems, focusing on gender differences in a large sample of Chinese children. METHODS: Data from 31,400 students (aged 9-16) were analyzed. Anxiety and behavioral problems were assessed using SCARED and PSQ. To control for developmental variance, symptom domains were residualized against chronological age prior to network estimation

Nonoperative Management Is Associated With an Increased Risk of Adverse Mental Health Conditions in Elderly Patients With Distal Radius Fractures: A Retrospective Cohort Analysis.

BACKGROUND: Previous research comparing operative versus nonoperative management of distal radius fractures in elderly patients has reported similar functional outcomes, leaving treatment decisions controversial. However, limited studies have analyzed how these approaches impact the mental well-being of patients. The purpose of this study is to compare the incidence of mental health conditions during the 1-year post-injury period following operative and nonoperative treatment. METHODS: A retrospective query of the TriNetX database identified patients 65 years and older with distal radius frac

Wearable Health-Tracking Devices and Adherence to Physical Activity Guidelines Among US Adults, Including Those with Elevated Anxiety Symptoms: A Nationally Representative Cross-Sectional Analysis of HINTS 7 (2024).

Physical activity is a pillar of lifestyle medicine, yet most US adults do not meet aerobic guidelines, and inactivity is especially common among people with anxiety. Wearables enable self-monitoring, but population-level evidence linking them to guideline adherence among distressed adults is limited. We analyzed 6686 adults from the nationally representative Health Information National Trends Survey 7 (2024). The outcome was meeting the aerobic guideline (≥150 weekly minutes of at least moderate-intensity activity); the exposure was wearable device use for health tracking. Elevated anxiety wa

Prospective associations of cortisol dynamics and daily stress with depression, generalized anxiety, and panic disorder symptoms.

BACKGROUND: Flatter diurnal cortisol decline indicates hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis dysregulation and has been longitudinally related to major depressive disorder (MDD), generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), and panic disorder (PD) symptoms. However, given high heterogeneity in the relationship between diurnal cortisol and future common mental health symptoms, the moderators of these long-term prospective associations remain unclear. METHOD: This secondary data analysis of the Midlife Development in the United States (MIDUS) used a longitudinal nine-year sample of community-dwellin

Reconsidering the health-related burden of mental and physical disorders in the presence of comorbidity: evidence from China Mental Health Survey.

AIMS: Mental and physical disorders are leading contributors to global disability. However, estimates of their health-related burden often overlook the pervasive comorbidity among conditions. This study aimed to quantify the independent and combined effects of these disorders on self-rated health in nationally representative Chinese adults, explicitly accounting for comorbidity. METHODS: Data were drawn from the China Mental Health Survey (CMHS), a cross-sectional nationally representative survey. Mental disorders were assessed using the Composite International Diagnostic Interview 3.0, and p

Real-world use, safety, and mental health efficacy of regulated psilocybin services in Oregon and Colorado.

Oregon (OR) and Colorado (CO) were the first states to enact regulations for provision of psilocybin with support of licensed 'facilitators.' As more states and countries adopt similar policies, informed public policy decisions require that client characteristics and rationale for using psilocybin, psilocybin dosing practices, mental health outcomes, and adverse events are understood. We performed a retrospective observational study of responses for 2363 individuals receiving psilocybin at OR and CO regulated service centers. Clients and facilitators entered data before and after receiving psi

Integration of Ecological Momentary Assessment and Intervention With Wearable-Based Digital Phenotypes to Treat Anxiety in Young Adults: Mixed Methods Experimental Study.

BACKGROUND: Young adults report high levels of anxiety, yet their access to timely treatment remains limited. Mobile-based digital therapeutics, particularly ecological momentary assessment and intervention (EMA/EMI), offer a promising approach to deliver context-responsive care. The integration of wearable-derived digital phenotypes with digital therapeutics may enhance the personalization of feedback in such interventions, but empirical evidence from real-world settings remains scarce. OBJECTIVE: This study examined the real-world applicability and effectiveness of an EMA/EMI-based digital

The Role of Resiliency Education in Prenatal Classes on Maternal Mental Health.

PURPOSE: Pregnant women with low incomes and racial/ethnic minorities experience higher rates of maternal depression and anxiety, which negatively impact maternal and infant well-being. Racial minorities experience increased stress due to social factors and ongoing systemic inequalities in the United States. To address these disparities, the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (LACDHS) developed a novel prenatal education and support curriculum that incorporated resilience-building to deliver in-person, interactive prenatal education content. METHODS: An evidence-based resilience

Syndemic Pattern of Sexualized Drug Use and Mental Distress Among Trans Women/Khawaja Siras in Pakistan: Results From a Multicentric Latent Class Analysis.

Trans women, or Khawaja Sira, are a marginalized community in Pakistan. There is limited social inclusivity and high stigma for them in mainstream spaces. This leads to mental distress and compromised psychological well-being. The current study aims to identify latent classes of mental distress, substance use patterns, and their associated factors. A cross-sectional analytical study was conducted from 1 May 2025 to 10 June 2025 at seven community-based organizations. Self-identified trans women were recruited through the HIV community organization. Anxiety and depressive symptoms were measured
