Pilomatrix-like high grade carcinomas involving urinary bladder: a novel divergent differentiation in urothelial carcinoma.

The full morphologic spectrum of divergent differentiations in urothelial carcinoma is still unknown. Herein, we describe two cases of pilomatrix-like high grade carcinomas (PiMLC) involving bladder. Case #1 was a 55-year-old male with a bladder tumor with basaloid nests, geographic necrosis, and shadow cells. The tumor cells were positive for LEF1, β-catenin (nuclear/cytoplasmic staining), CK5/6, CD10, BerEP4, p63 (focal-to-patchy) and AMACR (patchy), and negative for CK7, GATA3, CDX2, INSM1, chromogranin, synaptophysin, p40, CK20, calponin, CD117, S100, smooth muscle actin, p16 and high-risk

The relationship between patterns of noncommunicable diseases and depressive symptoms in rural population: a latent class analysis.

AIM: Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) may exacerbate mental health problems in urban populations. However, the extent to which multimorbidity of NCDs influences depressive symptoms among rural populations is unclear. This study evaluated multimorbidity patterns of NCDs and examined their relationship with depressive symptoms in individuals aged 15 years and older living in rural areas. METHOD: A cross-sectional study using data from a representative sample of the rural Brazilian population (N = 20,973) were analysed. Latent class analysis was used to identify multimorbidity patterns across ele

Synucleins deficiency alter dopamine- and glutamate-induced calcium signal in neurons and astrocytes.

Proteins α-, β-, and γ-synuclein in brain distributed predominantly in presynaptic terminals suggesting their role in regulating neurotransmitter release and signal transduction. Misfolded α-synuclein is involved in the pathology of Parkinson's disease which is characterized by the loss of dopaminergic neurons and the resulting dopamine deficiency. The role of synucleins in the physiology of dopamine-controlled signal transmission is still not fully understood. Using acute brain slices from transgenic mice with α-, β-, γ-synuclein knockout (KO) we studied the effect of synuclein deficiency on

Numerosity perception and fraction processing in children with developmental coordination disorder: Dissociating numerical acuity from inhibitory control.

Children with Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) often struggle with mathematics. However, the cognitive factors associated with these difficulties are still poorly understood. In particular, it is unclear whether mathematical problems in children with DCD reflect deficits in executive functions or in more domain-specific numerical processes. The present study examined these associations using two tasks that tap into numerical processes and inhibitory executive functions at different levels of mathematical complexity. In the numerosity comparison task, participants compared two arrays o

A Biopsychosocial Model of Predictors of Methadone Maintenance Treatment Retention Among Iranian Men With Opioid Use Disorder.

BACKGROUND: Opioid use disorder remains a significant public health burden in Iran. While methadone maintenance treatment (MMT) is effective, its success is often limited by high attrition rates. Most protocols emphasize pharmacological factors, neglecting the multifaceted biopsychosocial nature of treatment retention. METHODS: This prospective longitudinal cohort study involved 342 men with opioid use disorder from 10 public and private treatment centers in Iran. Path analysis with diagonally weighted least squares (DWLS) was used to evaluate biological, social, and psychological predictors

Biological hierarchy from genotype to phenotype in syndromic and non-syndromic autism spectrum disorder.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a heterogeneous neurodevelopmental condition whose pathophysiology is thought to arise from complex interactions among genetic variation, molecular and cellular perturbations, and neural circuit dysfunction. Although the distinction between syndromic and non-syndromic ASD was introduced as a pragmatic clinical classification, these clinically defined subgroups may exhibit overlapping yet distinct patterns of genetic liability and molecular dysregulation while also exhibiting mechanistic convergence. This narrative review examines the molecular mechanisms under

Impostor phenomenon and perfectionism among medical students at a medical faculty in the Central Anatolia Region of Türkiye: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: The impostor phenomenon is a psychological pattern in which high-achieving individuals attribute their accomplishments to external factors such as luck rather than their own competence, and experience a persistent fear of being exposed as a fraud. This study examined the impostor phenomenon, its relationship with perfectionism, and associated sociodemographic factors among medical students. METHODS: A descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted at the Faculty of Medicine, Necmettin Erbakan University, Turkey, during the 2022-2023 academic year. First-, fourth-, and sixth-year

Headache disorders among Indigenous communities: A scoping review undertaken with knowledge keeper guidance.

OBJECTIVE: We performed a scoping review of literature on headache etiology, classification, prevalence, and treatment in Indigenous communities in Canada, the United States, Australia, and New Zealand. BACKGROUND: In the United States, analysis of national prevalence indicates that Indigenous Americans lead all other racial/ethnic groups in headache prevalence. Risk factors associated with headache burden, including diabetes, head injury, psychological trauma, environmental exposures, and lack of access to appropriate diagnosis and treatment, have been documented in Indigenous communities ac

Endorsement of Appearance-Based Societal Biases Differentiates Women With Current Anorexia Nervosa From Those in Recovery.

OBJECTIVE: Many people relapse following treatment for Anorexia nervosa (AN). Internalization of appearance-related societal biases, including weight stigma, idealization of thinness, and body self-objectification, is related to eating disorder (ED) onset and maintenance, but their association with AN recovery is unclear. METHOD: We recruited 425 women using Prolific: 136 with self-reported active AN, 143 who self-reported being recovered, and 146 controls with no ED history. They completed online measures of ED symptoms, internalized weight stigma, thin-ideal internalization, and self-object

Care approaches for people with longstanding eating disorders: a lived experience perspective on the need for recovery-fostering care.

People with longstanding eating disorders (EDs) are often conceptualised as 'treatment-resistant' when they are not currently benefitting from established recovery-focused treatments. This may encourage a shift from recovery-focused treatments to care approaches that for many individuals do not foster recovery. As a result, the present article offers an explicitly hope-holding and recovery-fostering care (RFC) approach that neither demands recovery nor abandons the possibility of recovery, whatever recovery may mean to the individual being cared for. RFC is guided by the following principles,

Connectivity-Guided Individualized iTBS of the Posterior Parietal Cortex in Enduring Anorexia Nervosa: Network-Level Target Engagement and Multimodal Response in a Single Case.

AIMS: Anorexia nervosa (AN) is a severe, often enduring disorder with scarce biological treatments, largely unable to address its core implicit features: habit-like food restriction and body-experience disturbances. We report a single-case application of resting-state connectivity-guided intermittent theta-burst stimulation (iTBS) to the posterior parietal cortex (PPC), a hub for body representation, peripersonal space, and affordance-based action. METHODS: A 31-year-old woman with 12 years of treatment-resistant restricting AN, enrolled in an ongoing sham-controlled feasibility trial, underw

The role of a midwife during perinatal anorexia nervosa care: A narrative review.

Anorexia nervosa primarily affects women of reproductive age, with prevalence significantly increasing during pregnancy. Identifying optimal ways to support this population during the perinatal period is essential. This narrative review examines the role of midwives in perinatal care of women with anorexia nervosa, the challenges they encounter, and the effectiveness of midwifery-led care in this context. As part of this narrative review, a literature search was conducted across PubMed, CINAHL, Embase, Web of Science, and PsycINFO. Reference lists of included studies were screened for addition

Surviving the Storm: A Qualitative Study of Caregivers' Challenges in Family-Based Treatment for Adolescent Anorexia Nervosa.

OBJECTIVE: Family-based treatment (FBT) is the recommended first-line outpatient treatment for adolescent anorexia nervosa (AN) in Aotearoa New Zealand (NZ), but places substantial responsibility on parents/caregivers. Although caregiver burden in FBT is increasingly recognized internationally, in-depth qualitative work situated in the NZ service context is lacking. This study explored how caregivers experienced participating in FBT for adolescent AN in NZ. METHOD: Twelve caregivers participated in semi-structured interviews between May and July 2025. Interviews were analyzed within an interp

Trait-relevant movies amplify neuroticism-associated brain responses.

High neuroticism is a risk factor for mental disorders. Understanding whether individuals share a common foundation in brain function underlying neuroticism is therefore an essential goal of neuroscience. We applied Inter-Subject Representational Similarity Analysis on data from 174 Human Connectome Project participants to investigate if their similarity in neuroticism is reflected in their similarity of fMRI-recorded brain activity during movie watching. To test behavioral personality theories that consider trait expression as dependent on situational context, we examined whether brain-trait

The Relationship Between Maternal Personality Functioning and Caregiving Quality.

Previous studies have shown that mothers with categorically defined personality pathology experience substantial difficulties in parenting, but research using Level of Personality Functioning (LPF) is notably lacking. This study explored relationships between maternal LPF and behavioral (Coping with Children's Negative Emotions Scale), attitudinal (Parenting Sense of Competence scale), and representational (Caregiving Helplessness Questionnaire) measures of caregiving in a sample of 170 mothers. We also investigated whether LPF incrementally explains caregiving over anxiety and depression, the
