Individualised Homeopathic Treatment of Nausea and Vomiting in the First Trimester and of COVID-19 in the Third Trimester of Pregnancy-A Case Report.

INTRODUCTION/BACKGROUND: Nausea and vomiting in pregnancy are common physiological disturbances, causing physical, social and psychological symptoms in the affected women. Though it is difficult to draw absolute conclusions on whether or not pregnant women are at high risk of acquiring severe consequences from corona-virus disease 2019 (COVID-19), clinical experience has shown them to be potentially vulnerable to other coronaviruses. Lack of specific conventional therapy for these conditions called for a complementary and individualised homeopathy approach in the presented case. METHODS: The

Quetiapine withdrawal: A systematic review.

OBJECTIVE: Withdrawal from psychoactive medication such as quetiapine is a well-documented phenomenon. Despite the extensive use of quetiapine, there have been few studies into the presence of discontinuation symptoms. We therefore performed a systematic review of published literature for evidence of quetiapine withdrawal or symptoms associated with discontinuation. METHODS: We searched PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, Medline, Web of Science, PsycINFO for articles containing the terms 'Quetiapine' AND 'withdraw$' OR 'discontinue$'. We included all study types that reported on somatic withdrawal sympt

Biochemical Benefits, Diagnosis, and Clinical Risks Evaluation of Kratom.

BACKGROUND: Kratom (Mitragyna speciosa) is a tropical tree with a long history of traditional use in parts of Africa and Southeast Asia. Kratom is also known as Thom, Thang, and Biak. Its leaves and the teas brewed from them have long been used by people in that region to manage pain and opioid withdrawal and to stave off fatigue. Kratom is actually consumed throughout the world for its stimulant effects and as an opioid substitute (in form of tea, chewed, smoked, or ingested in capsules). Some case reports have associated kratom exposure with psychosis, seizures, intrahepatic cholestasis, oth

Pharmacological interventions on early functional gastrointestinal disorders.

BACKGROUND: Functional gastrointestinal disorders (FGIDs) are chronic or recurrent gastrointestinal symptoms without structural or biochemical abnormalities. FGIDs are multifactorial conditions with different pathophysiologic mechanisms including altered motility, visceral hyperalgesia, brain-gut disturbance, genetic, environmental and psychological factors. Although in most cases gastrointestinal symptoms are transient and with spontaneous resolution in infancy multiple dietary changes and pharmacological therapy are often started despite a lack of evidence-based data. Our aim was to update a

Overview of diagnosis and management of paediatric headache. Part I: diagnosis.

Headache is the most common somatic complaint in children and adolescents. The evaluation should include detailed history of children and adolescents completed by detailed general and neurological examinations. Moreover, the possible role of psychological factors, life events and excessively stressful lifestyle in influencing recurrent headache need to be checked. The choice of laboratory tests rests on the differential diagnosis suggested by the history, the character and temporal pattern of the headache, and the physical and neurological examinations. Subjects who have any signs or symptoms

Nausea and vomiting of pregnancy.

NVP is a spectrum of disorders ranging from the physiologically typical mild to moderate nausea and vomiting that is usually self-limited, to the pathologic, intractable symptoms of hyperemesis gravidarum that are associated with metabolic and electrolyte disturbances and weight loss. Up to 90% of pregnant women experience NVP. The pathogenesis remains poorly understood with multifactorial theories proposed combining both biologic and psychological factors. Diagnosing this syndrome is straightforward, but other organic sources should be excluded when symptoms are severe or prolonged. The overa

Pregnancies in reliable pill takers.

This study is an extension of a previous study on oral contraceptive pill method failure in reliable pill takers. It documents 137 cases which presented during the 3 year period from December 1985 to December 1988. The most important new finding is that smoking is a significant risk factor in failure on the combined pill (67% were smokers, n = 118), but not on the progestagen-only pill, although the numbers in the latter group were small (n = 19). Diarrhoea and/or vomiting (46%) and drug interactions (33%) are confirmed as important predisposing factors. Systemic illness and/or severe psycholo

Psychological problems associated with diagnosis and treatment of lymphomas. I: Retrospective study.

Patients treated for Hodgkin's disease and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma have a better prognosis than other patients with cancer so may have a lower prevalence of psychological and social morbidity. Trained interviewers used standardised methods to assess 90 patients at a mean of 32 months after the diagnosis of Hodgkin's disease or non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Chemotherapy and radiotherapy had commonly caused adverse effects including hair loss, vomiting, nausea, and loss of appetite. Although most patients were free of disease and not receiving treatment at follow up, some still suffered from a lack of

[Anorexia nervosa. A clinical and psychometric study].

Psychiatric symptoms and psychometric variables were assessed in thirty three female inpatients with anorexia nervosa. Our sample was a relatively "severe" group. All of the patients were still in treatment at the time of the study and had fulfilled the strict diagnostic criteria clearly defined by Crisp, Bruch, Russell, Dally and Gomez. Since the initial descriptions of anorexia nervosa were made, there has been a great confusion about whether it is a homogeneous illness or not. Our findings bear consistently with the clinical observation that there are distinct diagnostic sub-groups within t

Prognosis in anorexia nervosa as influenced by clinical features, treatment and self-perception.

The use of behaviour modification in the treatment of anorexia nervosa has been controversial and has not undergone controlled studies. An investigation of 42 patients with anorexia nervosa treated a mean of 31.7 months earlier was conducted to determine factors related to prognosis. The three areas studied were (a) clinical features, (b) treatment (behaviour modification versus medical and psychologic therapy) and (c) self-perception (with a distorting photographic technique). Clinical outcome was assessed as "excellent" in 7, "much improved" in 14, "symptomatic" in 13 and "poor" In 8. Analys
