Previous research has suggested relationships between anxiety and nightmares and between nightmares and other sleep difficulties by relating measures across Ss. In the present experiment, students who reported two or more nightmares per week and who were participating in a treatment study recorded anxiety ratings and sleep observations for 8 weeks. Correlational analyses of the diurnal measures revealed within-S support for both relationships. Individual differences in the pattern of significant correlations and their treatment implications are discussed.

Case reports of five patients are presented, each with a specific aura at the onset of the seizures. All of these patients' had seizures during the waking state. A lightning strike involving 47 children is described. Four cases demonstrate the most common and serious resulting pathology: burns, myocardial infarction, and neurological symptoms varying from feelings of fear and nightmares to brain death. This study reports the findings from an investigation to evaluate the intra-family dynamics that occurred with 111 cases of childhood drowning and near-drowning in the City of Brisbane in 1971-1975. Personal interviews were obtained with 77 of the families. 24 per cent of parent-dyads separated following the drowning of their child, whereas none of the 54 families of surviving children separated. Triazolam, 0.4 and 0.8 mg, flurazepam, 15 and 30 mg, and placebo were compared in a double-blind, randomized 5-night crossover study in 25 inpatient insomniacs. We have observed several cases of a traumatic neurotic syndrome in patients who awakened from light anesthesia while still unable to move. The subsequent symptoms of anxiety and irritability, preoccupation with death, and repetitive nightmares should lead the physician to suspect the condition even though the patient is reluctant to talk about it.
