The Arabic Generalized Anxiety Disorder 2 (GAD-2): Psychometric evaluation among mothers of children with intellectual disabilities.

INTRODUCTION: Disruptive behaviours of children with intellectual disabilities predispose mothers to mental and physical morbidities, leading to caregiving burnout, lower childcare quality, and poor child progress. METHODS: This cross-sectional study investigated the psychometrics of the Arabic version of the Generalised Anxiety Disorder 2-item scale (GAD-2) among 85 Saudi mothers of children with intellectual disabilities through latent variable model and receiver-operating characteristic curve analyses. RESULTS: The unidimensional GAD-2 demonstrated good construct validity, invariance at t

Relational hypnotherapy, lucid dreaming, and sleep paralysis: A case study.

Sleep paralysis (SP) is understood as a form of temporary muscle paralysis that occurs during the transition between rapid eye movement (REM) sleep and wakefulness. SP is normally associated with vivid, fear-provoking hallucinations such as being threatened or attacked by home invaders and paranormal encounters like alien abductions. SP affects about 20% of the population, and it is a common symptom of narcolepsy, a disorder that disrupts regular sleep cycles and causes sleep deprivation. This article is intended to illuminate the use of relational hypnotherapy in conjunction with lucid dreami

Sleep Disturbances in PTSD: Insight from Clinical Studies.

The review article on posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and sleep provides a comprehensive overview of circadian genes in PTSD-related sleep disturbances, drawing insights from patient studies. PTSD is often accompanied by significant sleep-related disturbances, which can manifest as nightmares, disrupted sleep continuity, and alterations in sleep architecture, particularly changes in Rapid Eye Movement (REM) sleep-regulation. Despite the well-documented symptomatic complaints of poor sleep among PTSD patients, the underlying mechanism remains poorly understood. This review underscores the

Clinical correlates of sleep profiles in dementia with Lewy bodies: a latent class approach.

BACKGROUND: Rapid eye movement behavioral disorder (RBD) is a well-studied feature of dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB). However, patients with DLB report a significantly wider range of sleep symptoms than those of RBD. Our objective was to characterize profiles of sleep disturbances in DLB. METHODS: Retrospective cross-sectional study including patients with DLB fulfilling McKeith et al. diagnostic criteria in 3 centers at AP-HP GHU Nord, Paris, France. Nine sleep symptoms were evaluated. Latent class analysis was performed on sleep symptoms to identify underlying patterns. Classes were compar

Sustaining transformations in psychoanalysis: an interdisciplinary case study on trauma, dreams, and memory reconsolidation.

Chronic depression associated with early trauma remains one of the most treatment-resistant conditions in mental healthcare. Clinical and empirical findings have increasingly suggested that patients with histories of early trauma may benefit differentially from intensive psychoanalytic treatments compared to symptom-focused or short-term psychotherapies. Our conceptual article aims to elucidate the mechanisms underlying sustained therapeutic change in psychoanalysis with chronically depressed, early traumatized patients by integrating clinical psychoanalytic theory, contemporary dream research

Safety and efficacy of esketamine versus remifentanil as adjuncts to propofol sedation in children undergoing haematologic-oncologic procedures in China: a single-centre, randomised, controlled, crossover trial protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Adequate sedation is essential for paediatric patients undergoing invasive haematologic-oncologic procedures. The combination of propofol and remifentanil is commonly used yet is associated with respiratory depression. Esketamine has anaesthetic, analgesic and sympathomimetic properties and is known to cause less respiratory depression than other sedatives. This study aims to assess esketamine versus remifentanil in combination with propofol for invasive haematological-oncological procedures for paediatric patients. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: This prospective, randomised, double-blin

Nightmares and cardiometabolic diseases in an adult population-based sample.

BACKGROUND: Nightmares can trigger stress responses and lead to insufficient or poor-quality sleep, which are associated with cardiometabolic diseases (CMD) and their risk factors. However, research on the association and underlying mechanisms between nightmares and CMD in the general population remains limited. METHOD: Data from three follow-ups of the CoLaus|PsyCoLaus study (Lausanne, Switzerland). Frequent nightmares were assessed through questionnaires, with additional ecological momentary assessment (EMA) in the second and third follow-ups. Salivary cortisol levels (as a biomarker of str

Clinical Characteristics Associated With Nightmares During Lemborexant Treatment in Psychiatric Patients: A Retrospective Study.

BACKGROUND: A dual orexin receptor antagonist, lemborexant (LEM) is widely prescribed for the treatment of insomnia, especially among patients with psychiatric disorders. However, LEM-induced nightmares may exacerbate existing psychiatric symptoms and lead to the discontinuation of treatment. Despite its still growing clinical application, few studies have identified risk factors associated with LEM-induced nightmares. The aim of this study was to elucidate the clinical factors associated with LEM-induced nightmares in clinical settings. PROCEDURES: This retrospective study included 327 psych

Nightmares, insomnia, and suicide within a trauma-exposed sample.

OBJECTIVE: The literature is mixed regarding the relationship between nightmares and suicide, with some suggesting that the variance in nightmares is explained by fear of sleep (FoS), insomnia, and/or obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). We add clarity to the literature by examining the relationship between nightmares, insomnia, and suicide within a trauma-exposed sample, while controlling for FoS and OSA. METHOD: Our sample included 223 trauma-exposed participants who completed an anonymous online survey measuring trauma exposure, insomnia symptoms, nightmare frequency, FoS, suicide cognitions (SC

Delivering Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Nightmares (CBT-N) in primary care within the Veterans Health Administration: A preliminary report on clinician-perceived barriers and benefits.

Nightmares, which are associated with various biopsychosocial issues, are common and often undertreated among veterans. To address the demand for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Nightmares (CBT-N) in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), experts have trained mental health clinicians in its delivery. Program evaluation data show positive clinician perceptions of CBT-N but reveal implementation barriers, including the incompatibility between CBT-N and certain practice settings. One such setting is Primary Care Mental Health Integration (PCMHI), where brief episodes of care may limit CBT-N f

Evaluation of suicide behavior screening tools using machine learning and variable importance measures.

Suicide screening in military primary care settings is often conducted with a small number of self-report questions. The PRImary care Screening Methods (PRISM) study investigates how to enhance this screening's predictive validity by supplementing the standard approach with additional questions. The present research uses machine learning, specifically random forests implementing undersampling with discretized data, to characterize the most important risk/protective factors. An analysis of 1522 PRISM participants using 875 features identified suicide attempts up to 12 months post-baseline with
