AIMS: The objective of this study was to study the effectiveness of structured care with and without integrated education with regard to patients' knowledge, self-care behaviour and disease perception.
METHODS: Four diabetes care programmes implemented in a daily primary care setting were compared, two based on structured care and two on education integrated into structured care. Measurements were taken at baseline and after 6 and 12 months.

PURPOSE: To assess the effect of the W. K. Kellogg Foundation's five-year (9/91 to 9/96) primary care curricular change initiative involving seven sites and 27 schools with respect to courses offered, graduates' specialty choices, and valued school features (e.g., reputation, research, productivity, school climate) and to track how well the schools possessed or developed the processes associated with enduring curricular change.
METHOD: Information was collected via pre- and post-surveys of faculty and students, site visits, annual reports, and medical students' specialty match results.

Little is known about the effects of intense spiritual practice among teenage youth. In the present study, 170 adolescent males in Thailand were assessed regarding the immediate and long-term behavioral, emotional, and devotional consequences of participation in a six-week Buddhist monastic program. The present study retrospectively examines the role of stressful life events in the onset of vitiligo in adults. A matched clinical sample of patients with other forms of disfigurement or skin disease (dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa and naevi, not thought to be associated with stress) served as a control group. This study examined patterns and associates of excessive eating (hyperphagia) in a community-based registry of patients with dementia. From patients enrolled in the Mayo Clinic Alzheimer's Disease Patient Registry (n = 439), 39 were identified with excessive eating reported on the Behavior Symptom Checklist at some time during their illness. They were matched for age, gender, duration of disease, and Global Deterioration Scale (GDS) score to "normal eaters." Annualized weight change was determined based on weight from the 6 months before the evaluation to weight 6 months after the evaluation.

Multi-skilling has been the most enduring element of patient-focused care in the UK. A recent report from the Manchester University Health Service Management Unit (HSMU) extended the multi-skilling debate and offered a framework for changing National Health Service workforce policy along multi-skilling lines. Examines the main HSMU issues in the light of broader empirical and other evidence. Assesses the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats to multi-skilling.
