Child pornography involves the realisation of deviant fantasies with very specific characteristics with regard to its content and use and therefore the legal action needed to deal with it. The internet has facilitated its dissemination and access and complicates the issue but we need to be able to identify and track people who use illegal pornography. This paper is based on a review of the literature and presents some criminological characteristics of child pornography on the internet.

Prevention strategies have traditionally involved only tertiary interventions, implemented by the criminal justice system after an offence has occurred. BACKGROUND: The aim of the study was to compare the characteristics of sex offenders today, and those who committed a sex crime fifteen years ago, in regard to their psychiatric-forensic aspects.

Contrary to public perception, child sex offending (CSO) and paedophilia are not the same. Only half of all cases of CSO are motivated by paedophilic preference, and a paedophilic preference does not necessarily lead to CSO. Psychologists and a psychiatrist testify to the clinical condition of people sentenced to socio-judicial supervision with court-ordered therapy. Despite the extension of the indication of the programme, this complex supervision often concerns the perpetrators of intra and/or extra familial sexual abuse. Preventing reoffending through the global treatment of the patient is a major concern both for the doctor-coordinators as well as the doctor and psychologists delivering the therapy.

OBJECTIVES: Objective assessment of sexual preferences may be of relevance in the treatment and prognosis of child sexual offenders.
