Comparative Clinical and Functional Profiles of Monosymptomatic and Non-monosymptomatic Primary Enuresis in Children.

Introduction Primary nocturnal enuresis is a common pediatric condition, classified into monosymptomatic (MPE) and non-monosymptomatic (NMPE) based on the presence of daytime lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). Distinguishing between these two forms is essential, as it directly influences management strategies. This study aimed to compare the clinical, functional, and psychological characteristics of children with MPE and NMPE. Materials and methods A comparative observational study was conducted over two years, including children aged five to 15 years who presented with primary nocturnal enu

Adaptive reorganization of local sleep and prelimbic cortical circuits predict behavioral resilience to social defeat stress.

Understanding the biological mechanisms responsible for resilience to stress-the ability to overcome adverse conditions-remains a major challenge. While sleep is a known regulator of resilience, the localized cortical dynamics that facilitate this process remain unclear. We hypothesized that resilience to social stress is determined by local sleep changes within the prelimbic cortex (PrL), a region critical for top-down control of stress-responsive circuits. To test this, we conducted longitudinal single-unit and local field potential (LFP) recordings in the prelimbic (PrL) cortex of male mice

Patient-Reported Outcome Measures After Liver Resection: A Prospective Single-Center Analysis of Patient-Reported Outcomes and Predictors of Recovery.

BACKGROUND: Traditional outcome assessment after liver surgery mainly relies on perioperative morbidity and mortality. However, these parameters fail to capture the multidimensional recovery experienced by patients after hepatic resection. This study aimed to evaluate changes in quality of life (QoL) between the preoperative and three-month postoperative assessments using Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) and to identify factors associated with impaired postoperative recovery. METHODS: A prospective observational study was conducted including 71 consecutive patients undergoing liver r

Comparison of Clinical Outcomes Between Liposuction Combined with the Pull-Through Technique Versus Arthroscopic Shaver Excision for Gynecomastia.

BACKGROUND: Gynecomastia, a benign proliferation of mammary gland tissue in males, negatively affects body image and can cause psychological distress. Surgical treatments such as subcutaneous mastectomy and liposuction are common but may result in complications like scarring and hematoma. The arthroscopic shaver, originally used for varicose vein and arthroscopic surgeries, has shown promise for soft tissue removal. This study compares the outcomes of liposuction combined with the pull-through technique and the arthroscopic shaver in gynecomastia treatment. METHODS: Patients with gynecomastia

Personalised Nutraceutical Treatment Guided by MTHFR Genotype in Mental Health: A Retrospective Cohort Study.

BACKGROUND & AIMS: One-carbon metabolism plays a central role in neurotransmitter synthesis, methylation capacity, and neurobiological resilience. Variants in the methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) gene can reduce enzymatic activity, affecting folate- and methionine-cycle functions and potentially influencing biological pathways relevant to mood and anxiety disorders. Personalised nutraceutical treatment strategies, particularly those addressing methylation capacity through targeted B-vitamin, folate, and adjunctive metabolic interventions are increasingly implemented in integrative c

Emerging strategies for spinal cord injury repair: stem cells, extracellular vesicles, biomaterials, and neuromodulation.

Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a devastating condition that frequently results in permanent disability. Repair and functional recovery after SCI are hindered by the complexity of its pathophysiology and the inherent challenges of neural regeneration within the central nervous system. Despite decades of research aimed at elucidating its pathological mechanisms and developing effective strategies to promote axonal regeneration and circuit rewiring, successful therapeutic outcomes remain limited. Recent advances in bioactive materials and stem cell technology have shifted the research focus from sol

Spatiotemporal associations between PM2.5, greenspace, physical activity, and stress: a geographic ecological momentary assessment study in Hong Kong.

Urban environmental health studies often use static residence-based exposures, overlooking how mobility, cumulative exposure, and activity-travel contexts shape environmental perceptions, behavior and mental health. We examined the temporal- and context-specific associations among PM2.5, eye-level greenspace, physical activity, environmental perceptions, and perceived stress in Hong Kong. A two-day geographic ecological momentary assessment (GEMA) of 800 adults integrated 1.7 million PM2.5 measurements, 2.1 million accelerometer records, 4,800 GEMA assessments, and eye-level greenspace from 4.

Sex differences in patient mortality after traumatic spinal cord injury: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Traumatic spinal cord injury (TSCI) causes high mortality and long-term disability, with profound physical, emotional, and socioeconomic impact. While males represent the majority of cases, females may have lower mortality, potentially due to neuroprotection and immune modulation. However, the impact of sex on mortality remains unclear, limiting opportunities for sex-specific management. RESEARCH QUESTION: To evaluate the association between sex and mortality after TSCI. MATERIAL AND METHODS: PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library were systematically searched

Recollection of Informed Consent and Study Participation in Acute Spinal Cord Injury Clinical Studies: A 12-Year Retrospective Survey with Implications for Ethical Research Practices.

Scientific advancements in spinal cord injury (SCI) have focused on early interventions. However, research in the acute SCI setting presents ethical challenges, particularly the durability of informed consent. Given trauma's effects on cognition, we assessed participants' recollection of the consent process and willingness to participate in future research. A 15-item questionnaire was administered to 119 participants previously enrolled in one of three acute SCI studies at our institution between 2010 and 2022. Of 32 responses, 47% recalled the consent process, 30% were unsure, and 23% had no

Therapeutic Strategies for Takotsubo Syndrome: A Comprehensive Clinical Review.

Takotsubo syndrome (TTS), also known as stress-induced cardiomyopathy, is an acute reversible form of left ventricular systolic dysfunction that mimics acute coronary syndrome in presentation. Once regarded as benign, TTS is now recognized to have a complicated in-hospital course in a substantial proportion of patients, with clinically significant events occurring in up to one third of cases, including cardiogenic shock, arrhythmias, thromboembolism, and death. Despite growing recognition, evidence-based management strategies remain limited due to the absence of randomized controlled trials. H
