AI feedback-seeking and learning engagement in art education: psychological antecedents and reflective mechanisms.

INTRODUCTION: Generative artificial intelligence provides students with a feedback source that differs from traditional teacher and peer interaction, yet limited research has explained why students actively seek feedback from AI or how such feedback-seeking is associated with subsequent learning engagement. Drawing on transactional stress and coping theory and social cognitive theory, this study examined the psychological antecedents and reflective mechanisms of AI feedback-seeking in art education. METHODS: Two complementary studies were conducted. Study 1 utilized survey data from 315 highe

What illness taught me about care: Delay, certainty and dignity in oral cancer.

Clinicians who develop cancer within their own specialty occupy a rare position, holding both the knowledge of the expert and the vulnerability of the patient. This article reflects on what that experience revealed about cancer care, not its biology or technique, but the conditions in which it is received. Three elements consistently shaped the experience of illness: how quickly care was delivered, how clearly it was explained, and how respectfully the patient was treated. These are described as delay, certainty, and dignity. Delay influences not only clinical outcomes but also psychological b

Laboratory set-up for OBEs and projections.

Eye-to-eye gazing under low-level illumination provides a controlled laboratory paradigm for investigating out-of-body experiences (OBEs) and psychological projections. In the present study, a large sample of healthy participants (N = 398) completed a dyadic gazing task. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) conducted on nine items of the Strange-Face Questionnaire (SFQ) yielded a three-factor solution: (i) facial visual deformations (Derealization / Detachment-of-Reality; DR factor); (ii) out-of-body experiences (OBE factor); and (iii) apparitional projections of "ancestors" (Projection factor).

Women's experiences of trauma-informed care in midwifery and maternity services and implications for maternal wellbeing: A qualitative systematic review.

INTRODUCTION: Trauma-informed care has been increasingly advocated within maternity services as an approach to promote safety, autonomy, and respectful care. However, qualitative evidence exploring how participants experienced trauma-informed care across maternity and midwifery services has not been systematically synthesized. This review therefore aimed to synthesize qualitative evidence on women's experiences of trauma-informed care across maternity services, including midwifery care, during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. METHODS: A systematic review was conducted in acco

Adolescents' screen time exposure and the associated physical and psychological factors: an urban-rural perspective.

BACKGROUND: Data exist on adolescents' screen time behavior, but are lacking on urban-rural differences. We compared daily screen time exposures and associated anthropometric parameters, frequency of outdoor physical activity, and psychological parameters of urban and rural school-going adolescents. METHODS: This was a cross-sectional study. Using five districts of one of the administrative divisions of a western Indian state as the sampling frame, the first two urban and first two rural schools were selected from a randomly reordered list of schools. We included 627 students from 5th, 7th, a

Analysis of the actor-partner interdependence mediation model for self-disclosure between social support and benefit finding among stroke patients and their caregivers.

OBJECTIVE: Stroke is an acute, sudden-onset condition that constitutes an acute stressful event for both patients and caregivers, exerting a significant psychological impact. Based on the actor-partner interdependence mediating model, this study examines the influence of social support on benefit finding among stroke patients and their caregivers and investigates whether self-disclosure mediates this relationship. METHODS: This study is a cross-sectional study. Using convenience sampling, 278 pairs of stroke patients and their caregivers were selected from a Grade III Level A hospital in Lian

Social exclusion in educational settings and the risk of alienation in adolescent development: a narrative review from a mind-body interaction perspective.

INTRODUCTION: Social exclusion in educational settings is a salient interpersonal stressor during adolescence. However, ostracism, peer rejection, peer victimization, bullying, loneliness, and social isolation are overlapping but non-equivalent constructs. This narrative review examines how social exclusion in educational settings may contribute to the risk of alienation in adolescent development from a mind-body interaction perspective. METHODS: A structured, non-exhaustive literature search was conducted in PubMed, PsycINFO, and the Web of Science Core Collection for peer-reviewed English-l

Relationship between leadership and psychological empowerment in nursing: a meta-analysis exploring the role of country development level.

BACKGROUND: In recent years, empowering nurses has gained importance in decision-making processes, particularly in fast-paced clinical environments. Ethical, transparent and supportive leadership styles have been found to positively influence the psychological empowerment dimensions of nurses, such as meaning, competence, autonomy and influence. However, existing evidence remains fragmented, and the magnitude of this relationship across different health system contexts has not been quantitatively synthesised. OBJECTIVE: This meta-analysis aimed to investigate the association between leadershi

Postoperative functional rehabilitation for cervical spondylotic myelopathy: An integrative review guided by Orem's self-care deficit theory.

BACKGROUND: Cervical spondylotic myelopathy is the predominant cause of spinal cord dysfunction in adults, for which surgical decompression remains the mainstay of treatment. Surgical success alone does not guarantee functional restoration, and postoperative rehabilitation is a critical determinant of long-term outcome. A comprehensive, theory-grounded nursing framework to guide rehabilitation practice for this population has not been available. OBJECTIVES: To synthesise the current evidence on postoperative rehabilitation nursing for patients with cervical spondylotic myelopathy, to develop

The relationship between professional quality of life and work alienation among nurses in neonatal intensive care units: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) nurses face substantial psychological challenges. Work alienation - emotional disconnection from work - is a potential occupational concern with limited empirical attention. Left unaddressed, it may be associated with care quality and workforce stability. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate work alienation as an occupational concern and explore its associations with professional quality of life (ProQoL) components: compassion satisfaction (CS), burnout (BO) and secondary traumatic stress (STS), among NICU nurses. METHODS: A cross-sectional study of 188 nurs

Complexity of Psychological and Behavioral Science in Diabetes: The 2025 Richard R. Rubin Award Lecture.

Complexity was a strong and persistent theme in Richard Rubin's work on psychology and behavior science in diabetes. That complexity began with his recognizing that, as challenging or horrible as diabetes may be, we can also manage to live good lives with it. With his many contributions along the way, this article will review the growth of our field to include 1) recognition of the psychological problems and challenges of diabetes; 2) developing ways both to raise up the very real challenges of diabetes and to promote leading good lives with it; 3) understanding how psychological problems may

Childhood trauma and suicidal ideation in female prisoners: serial mediation via intolerance of uncertainty and emotional problems.

INTRODUCTION: Given the high risk of suicide among female prisoners, investigating the internal risk factors and pathways associated with suicidal ideation holds substantial clinical and practical significance. Childhood trauma, a critical distal risk factor, is closely associated with suicidal behavior. However, the specific cognitive and affective mechanisms through which childhood trauma links to suicidal ideation remain underexplored. Drawing on Emotion Dysregulation Theory and related research, this study constructed a serial mediation model to explore the relationship between childhood t

Repatriation, identity, and organisational adaptation: a case study on reverse brain drain and socio-psychological drivers in Turkey's energy sector.

This study examines the post-return experiences of engineers who completed postgraduate education abroad under a state scholarship carrying a service-or-repay bond and returned to a strategic public organisation in Turkey, the Case Company (CC): graduates either serve the institution for twice the funded period or reimburse the full cost of their training. We characterise this arrangement as scholarship-bound return migration and direct attention to what the bond cannot secure: integration after return. The research focuses on their integration into local work processes, organisational adaptat

Effectiveness of the AVANT neurorehabilitation training program on stroke rehabilitation awareness and practice in Vietnam.

Stroke remains the leading cause of disability in Vietnam, yet awareness of stroke rehabilitation remains limited. The AVANT (Austrian Vietnamese Advancement Neurorehabilitation Treatment) Program, launched in 2017, aims to address this gap by training healthcare professionals and caregivers in motor recovery practices. This study evaluated the AVANT program's structure, content, and impact on stroke rehabilitation awareness, using a single-arm pre-post design without a control group for caregivers and a cross-sectional survey for healthcare professionals. Data were collected from 96 stroke un
