Hematological Correlations as Predictors of Disease Manifestations in Psychiatric Inpatients.

Background/Objective. Psychiatric disorders exhibit significant symptomatic and etiopathological heterogeneity, complicating diagnosis and treatment. Hematological parameters may serve as indicators of overall health and predictors of psychiatric symptom manifestation and remission, particularly in long-term hospitalized patients. This study evaluated hematological and biochemical markers, including vitamin B12, vitamin D, and glucose levels, to explore their potential role in psychiatric disorders and disease progression. Methods. This prospective observational study was conducted from 1 Janu

Psychological factors predicting patients' risk of relapse after enrollment in drug use treatment: A systematic review.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Despite high rates of relapse after treatment for drug use, to our knowledge there is no systematic literature identifying psychological factors that predict risk of relapse to drug use (excluding alcohol or tobacco). Our aim was to identify psychological factors that predict risk of relapse to drug use after enrollment in drug use treatment. The identification of such factors can support treatment planning and relapse prevention. METHODS: We searched for peer-reviewed articles published between 2000 and 2023 in PsycINFO, PsycArticles, Web of Science, and PubMed. The incl

An exploratory examination of delay discounting in women and girls diagnosed with an eating disorder.

Those with eating disorders (EDs) characterized by purging behaviors tend to show more impulsivity than those diagnosed with restrictive eating, who tend to show more compulsivity. Impulsive choice (i.e. a type of impulsivity) is a common factor among eating disorders that is less understood. Delay discounting is a measure of choice impulsivity, examining the decrease in value of delayed outcomes. In this exploratory study, we examined associations between eating disorder type, age and delay discounting among patients at a residential ED treatment center (N = 178). Our findings showed that tho

Psychosocial impact on individuals who received negative test results from predictive testing for Huntington's disease: An exploratory qualitative study.

Huntington's disease (HD) is a neurodegenerative disease with autosomal dominant inheritance, and no radical cure for HD has been established. Qualitative studies are necessary to investigate the psychological state of individuals who underwent predictive testing for HD, because the psychosocial impact on noncarriers remains unclarified in Japan. Herein, we elucidated the psychosocial impact on the noncarriers for HD and the role of genetic counseling for predictive testing and follow-up after testing by examining their experiences with predictive testing. We conducted semi-structured intervie
