FGFR3::TACC3 fusions in head and neck carcinomas: a study of nine cases highlighting phenotypic heterogeneity, frequent HPV association, and a morphologically distinct subset in favor of a putative entity.

The FGFR3::TACC3 fusion has been reported in subsets of diverse cancers including urothelial and squamous cell carcinomas (SCC). However, the morphology of FGFR3::TACC3-positive head and neck carcinomas has not been well studied and it is unclear if this fusion represents a random event, or if it might characterize a morphologically distinct tumor type. We describe nine FGFR3::TACC3 fusion-positive head and neck carcinomas affecting six males and three females aged 38 to 89 years (median, 59). The tumors originated in the sinonasal tract (n = 4), parotid gland (n = 2), and one case each in the

Behavioral variant frontotemporal dementia in a 23-year-old man.

A 23-year-old man presented with behavioral disinhibition, stereotypies, motor apathy, flattened affect, and inappropriate laughter. CT demonstrated generalized cerebral atrophy. He was admitted with a diagnosis of unspecified psychosis and discharged on antipsychotic medication. He was readmitted 3 months later, was diagnosed with schizophrenia, and antipsychotic medication was continued. Owing to symptom progression and aggressive behavior, he was readmitted 2 months later. CT again demonstrated moderate central and cortical cerebral atrophy. MRI showed severe, stable atrophy with frontotemp

Electronic harm reduction interventions for drug overdose monitoring and prevention: A scoping review.

BACKGROUND: Novel strategies are required to address rising overdose deaths across the globe. We sought to identify the breadth and depth of the existing evidence around electronic harm reduction (e-harm reduction) interventions that aimed to reduce the harms associated with substance use. METHODS: We conducted a scoping review according to the PRISMA-ScR and PRISMA for Searching guidelines. A health sciences librarian systematically searched seven health databases from inception until January 20, 2023. Citation chaining and reference lists of included studies were searched to identify additi

Neuropsychiatric symptoms in a patient under cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator modulators treatment: a case report.

In recent times, some research has focused on the study of potential treatments for cystic fibrosis (CF), such as cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) modulators. These treatments have been reported to produce neuropsychiatric symptoms in a few patients, even though there is still no clear correlation nor underlying mechanism proposed. We present the case of a 23-year-old woman with CF and no previous psychiatric history who was admitted to our inpatient psychiatric unit presenting a wide range of neuropsychiatric symptoms, such as disorganized speech, bizarre poses or pe

Artificial intelligence in the prediction of venous thromboembolism: A systematic review and pooled analysis.

BACKGROUND: Accurate diagnostic and prognostic predictions of venous thromboembolism (VTE) are crucial for VTE management. Artificial intelligence (AI) enables autonomous identification of the most predictive patterns from large complex data. Although evidence regarding its performance in VTE prediction is emerging, a comprehensive analysis of performance is lacking. AIMS: To systematically review the performance of AI in the diagnosis and prediction of VTE and compare it to clinical risk assessment models (RAMs) or logistic regression models. METHODS: A systematic literature search was perf

A mixed method comparison of stigma toward autism and schizophrenia and effects of person-first versus identity-first language.

INTRODUCTION: While stigma toward autistic individuals has been well documented, less is known about how autism is perceived relative to other stigmatized disabilities. As a highly stigmatized condition with similar social cognitive features to autism, schizophrenia may offer a useful comparison for stigma. Previous studies have found that autistic people may be perceived more favorably than those with schizophrenia, but little is known about the underlying volitional thoughts that contribute to differences in how these conditions are perceived. METHODS: The present study utilizes a mixed-met

mHealth Intervention for Improving Pain, Quality of Life, and Functional Disability in Patients With Chronic Pain: Systematic Review.

BACKGROUND: Chronic pain (CP) is 1 of the leading causes of disability worldwide and represents a significant burden on individual, social, and economic aspects. Potential tools, such as mobile health (mHealth) systems, are emerging for the self-management of patients with CP. OBJECTIVE: A systematic review was conducted to analyze the effects of mHealth interventions on CP management, based on pain intensity, quality of life (QoL), and functional disability assessment, compared to conventional treatment or nonintervention. METHODS: PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews an

Subtypes of major depressive disorders and objectively measured physical activity and sedentary behaviors in the community.

BACKGROUND: Lack of physical activity (PA) and high sedentary behavior (SB) may enhance mental health problems, including depression, and are associated with increased mortality. Aside from a large body of research on major depressive disorder (MDD) assessed as an entity and either PA or SB, few studies have examined associations among subtypes of MDD and both PA and SB simultaneously derived from wrist-worn accelerometers. Accordingly, our aim was to explore the associations among MDD subtypes (atypical, melancholic, combined atypical-melancholic and unspecified) and four actigraphy-derived b

COVID 19-associated chilblain-like acral lesions among children and adolescents: an Italian retrospective, multicenter study.

BACKGROUND: Since the COVID-19 pandemic started, great interest has been given to this disease, especially to its possible clinical presentations. Besides classical respiratory symptoms, dermatological manifestations occur quite often among infected and non-infected patients, particularly in children. A prominent IFN-I response, that is generally higher in children compared to adults, may not only cause chilblain lesions, but it could also prevent infection and viral replication, thus justifying the negative swab results, as well as the absence of relevant systemic symptoms in positive cases.
