The effects of war on teachers' burnout: The moderating role of emotion regulation.

Teachers are at high risk of experiencing job-related burnout, especially during times of enduring stress, such as wartime. Therefore, it is essential to understand risk and protective factors among teachers exposed to these stressful situations. The current study examined whether cognitive reappraisal, a well-established adaptive emotion regulation strategy, moderates the link between war exposure, war-related stress, and burnout among Israeli Jewish and Arab high school teachers during the Israel-Hamas war that began in October 2023. We hypothesized that teachers who use cognitive reappraisa

Dyslexia: a window into the cortical mechanisms of adaptive speech analysis.

Atypical phonological processing is at the core of developmental dyslexia and is linked to aberrant tracking and analysis of auditory information in the cortex. Despite the importance of these mechanisms for speech processing and linguistic development, oral language comprehension in dyslexia remains largely intact. Recent findings suggest that dyslexia-linked atypical cortical processing patterns reflect both underlying deficits and compensatory strategies. This review synthesizes recent evidence linking atypical cortical tracking of auditory information in dyslexia, language development, and

Smart comprehend gesture based emotions recognition system for people with hearing disability utilizing spatio temporal graph convolutional network techniques.

Sign language (SL) is essential for communication among individuals with hearing or speech impairments. Facial emotion recognition plays a crucial role in improving expression analysis and assistive technologies when integrated with SL, specifically in fields like patient monitoring, psychoanalysis, and human-computer interaction. These applications directly assist the development of intelligent systems for communication and care. Gesture recognition (GR) can facilitate communication between machines and humans by enhancing this type of interaction. Machine learning (ML) is a part of artificia

The Behavioural and Neurophysiological Effects of Set-for-Variability (SfV) Reading Intervention for Children With Sustained Word Reading Difficulties.

This study investigates whether a Set-for-Variability (SfV) reading intervention improves irregular word reading and induces neural changes in the N400, specifically earlier onset latency and increased negative amplitude in incongruent conditions, among children with persistent word reading difficulties (RD). A pre-registered randomised control trial (RCT) was conducted with 30 children (average age: 9 years). Over 10 weeks, participants completed a 15-h online reading program. The SfV group focused on phoneme variation in decoding both regular and exception words, while the Current Best Pract

Associations over time between wartime deployment, parental burnout and child adjustment.

Military deployment places significant stress on families, yet little is known about its effects in contexts where both deployed and non-deployed family members face ongoing threat. This longitudinal study, conducted during the first seven months of the Israel-Hamas War, investigated how spousal deployment interacts with parental burnout and child emotional and behavioral problems, and whether parental burnout moderates this relationship. The study included 123 Israeli mothers (Mean age = 39.11, SD = 6.10) of children aged 5-18 years (Mean age = 8.47, SD = 3.32), 35 of whom had partners deploy

Exploring How People With Intellectual Disabilities Experience the Therapeutic Alliance: A 'Best Fit' Framework Analysis Using Bordin's Model.

BACKGROUND: There is an increasing interest in therapeutic alliance within talking therapy for people with intellectual disability. The applicability of frameworks such as Bordin's (1979) model of therapy alliance has not been considered. METHOD: A review of qualitative literature on people with intellectual disability's experience of talking therapy identified 23 papers. A 'best fit' framework synthesis was used to explore the applicability of Bordin's model to the experiences of people with intellectual disability in therapy. RESULTS: The analysis supported Bordin's core themes of bond, ta

Role of self-advocacy, academic accommodation, and attitude in career readiness among students with learning disabilities: a social cognitive perspective.

BACKGROUND: Higher education is the terminal stage for preparing career aspirants. Its responsibility becomes more crucial for students with learning disabilities (SWLDs). Extending implications of Bandura’s Social Cognitive Theory (SCT), the current study investigates the contribution of SWLDs’ self-advocacy to their career readiness with the mediating role of their academic accommodation and the moderating role of faculty’s attitude towards their career readiness. METHOD: The research design of the current study was a descriptive survey with cross-sectional data collection. The participants

C/T Ratios in Human Eyeblink Conditioning Paradigms to Examine Cerebellar Function and ADHD: A Narrative Review.

Eyeblink conditioning (EBC), a form of Pavlovian learning that relies on cerebellar circuits, offers a translationally relevant assay of adaptive learning and cerebellar integrity. In delay EBC, a conditioned stimulus (CS), such as a tone, overlaps with and co-terminates with the unconditioned stimulus (US), typically a brief air puff to the cornea. Trace EBC introduces a stimulus-free interval between CS offset and US onset, engaging additional brain structures such as the hippocampus. Acquisition of conditioned responses (CRs), their timing, and resistance to extinction have all been linked

Exploring Inclusion in Austria's Breast Cancer Screening:A Dual-Perspective Study of Women with Intellectual Disabilities and Their Caregivers.

Women with intellectual disabilities (IDs) face persistent health inequities, particularly in preventive services such as breast cancer screening, where participation rates remain disproportionately low. These disparities contribute to higher mortality and poorer survivorship outcomes, often linked to later-stage diagnoses. To better understand these challenges and inform the development of inclusive screening programs, this qualitative study conducted in Austria explored barriers, facilitators, and needs related to breast cancer screening from the dual perspectives of 17 women with mild-to-mo

Exploring cognitive processes in Arabic dictation: A study on writing challenges among dyslexic children.

Cognitive processes have been extensively examined in the literature concerning normal students across different writing genres to identify how they process writing before producing the final output. However, little is known about children with dyslexia in dictation tasks involving a heritage language that presents challenges due to inconsistencies in orthographic and phonological systems. This study investigated how Arab children with dyslexia cognitively processed writing in Modern Standard Arabic during a dictation task. Thirteen children with dyslexia were recruited to write a text dictate

Promoting agency and communication through powered mobility: a single-group, repeated measures intervention using the explorer mini in toddlers with motor disabilities.

BACKGROUND: Independent mobility in early life catalyzes development across motor, perceptual, cognitive, social, and linguistic domains. For young children with motor disabilities, however, opportunities to explore, interact, and learn from their surroundings are commonly restricted, which may limit developmental progress. OBJECTIVE: To examine the effects of a play-based powered mobility intervention, using the Permobil Explorer Mini, on developmental and communicative outcomes in toddlers with motor disabilities, using a single-group, repeated measures design. METHODS: Ten children with m

Factors Affecting Communication Outcomes for Deaf and Multilingual Learners: A Systematic Review.

BACKGROUND: Deaf and hard of hearing (DHH) children who are exposed to more than one spoken language can be described as deaf and multilingual learners (DMLs). Increased globalisation and technological advancements in hearing amplification mean an increasing number of children who are DHH access more than one spoken language (with and without the presence of signed languages). A growing body of evidence suggests that DMLs can develop competency in more than one spoken language. However, critical evaluation of factors contributing to positive outcomes appears limited. AIMS: The purpose of this

Hemispheric transfer and dyslexia: testing the deficit hypothesis for word and symmetry recognition using visual half-field tasks.

BACKGROUND: The interhemispheric transfer deficit theory proposes that individuals with dyslexia have impaired interhemispheric transfer, particularly affecting the integration of visual information from the left and right visual fields. This study aimed to evaluate this hypothesis by examining interhemispheric transfer in dyslexia using visual half-field tasks targeting both linguistic and visuospatial processing. METHODS: We examined interhemispheric transfer in dyslexia using two visual half-field tasks: a lexical decision task to assess written word processing, and a symmetry decision tas
