BACKGROUND: The association between psychiatric comorbidities (PCs) and long-term survival after lobectomy for early-stage non-small cell lung cancer is unknown. We sought to investigate this relationship using the Surveillance, Epidemiology, & End-Results (SEER)-Medicare registry.
METHODS: Data for all patients in the SEER-Medicare registry who underwent lobectomy for stage I non-small cell lung cancer from 2007 to 2014 were included. Those older than 80 years at time of diagnosis, with multiple cancers, or histology other than adenocarcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma were excluded. Patient

BACKGROUND: Lipodystrophy is a rare disease characterized by loss of adipose tissue. Natural history studies have demonstrated significant burden of disease; however, there is limited data on the impact of lipodystrophy on quality of life (QoL) and psychoemotional well-being. The QuaLip study is a prospective observational real-world study that aims to determine the impact of lipodystrophy on QoL and psychoemotional well-being and explore subjective burden of the disease. Sixty-seven adult patients and eight pediatric patients with lipodystrophy were included. Patients were followed up for 24

BACKGROUND: Individuals with developmental disabilities (DD) experience increased rates of emotional and behavioral crises that necessitate assessment and intervention. Psychiatric disorders can contribute to crises; however, screening measures developed for the general population are inadequate for those with DD. Medical conditions can exacerbate crises and merit evaluation. Screening tools using checklist formats, even when designed for DD, are too limited in depth and scope for crisis assessments. The Sources of Distress survey implements a web-based branching logic format to screen for com

BACKGROUND: Risk of being diagnosed with different developmental disorders is found to vary with immigrant background. Knowledge about such differences in Norway are a starting point for equity in health services quality, and for early identification and prevention. Our objective was to assess the risk of receiving diagnoses of developmental disorders among children born in Norway (2006-2017) to two or one immigrant parent compared to children with two Norwegian-born parents.
METHODS: Information on developmental disorders was from the Norwegian Patient Register (NPR) and information on immig

The landscape of genetic forms of Parkinson's diseases (PD) has grown exponentially in recent years. Today, around 10% of PD cases are estimated to be of genetic etiology. However, the link between parkinsonism or tremor and chromosome disorders, both numerical and structural, has been neglected. We reviewed the occurrence and characteristics of parkinsonism and tremor syndromes in patients with chromosomic disorders. We searched PubMed for articles published until December 2018, using the non-MESH terms "Chromosomopathy," "karyotype," "chromosome," "aneuploidy," "deletion," "inversion," "inse

BACKGROUND: Tics are the hallmark of Tourette syndrome (TS). However, TS patients may have a particular vulnerability to develop other movement disorders (MDs), such as dystonia, chorea, stereotypy, and other hyperkinetic disorders that may be wrongly attributed to tics.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We studied a cohort of 201 patients with motor and phonic tics associated with TS to determine if they have additional, co-existent, MDs.
RESULTS: There were 67 (33.3%) patients with comorbid non-tic MDs. Phenomenology-wise, piano-playing movements resembling chorea or myoclonus, were the most common n

Classification of Attention Deficit-/Hyperactivity Disorder in ICD-11 Abstract. The article gives a brief overview of the modifications to the classification of hyperkinetic disorders/attention deficit/hyperactivity disorders according to ICD-11. Fortunately, these modifications are based on DSM-5, both in terms of their designation and the internal differentiation of the diagnosis. That the ICD-10 relinquishes the combination diagnosis of hyperkinetic conduct disorder in favor of multiple diagnoses is also to be welcomed. On the one hand, the renunciation of an exact operationalization of the

Perinatal hypoxia due to obstetric complications has been known to cause neurodevelopmental impairments in infants and children. The severity of the impairments and recovery depends on the degree of hypoxia. There have been some studies which focuses on understanding the effects of perinatal hypoxia on cognitive and behavioral functioning like attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism spectrum disorder (ASD), learning disorders, or aggression. Although the studies have investigated the effects in children, there are very few studies done to explore perinatal hypoxia, causing any
