MediTEDNet: Visual State Space Model for Thyroid Eye Disease Classification.

Thyroid eye disease (TED) is a prevalent autoimmune orbital disorder that can severely impair visual function and significantly diminish patients' quality of life. In recent years, several studies have attempted to automate TED diagnosis using optical coherence tomography (OCT) images. However, existing approaches primarily rely on convolutional neural networks (CNNs) combined with attention mechanisms and are mostly trained using traditional cross-entropy loss. Although Transformers excel at modeling long-range dependencies, their quadratic computational complexity when processing high-resolu

Cognitive Disengagement Syndrome: Changes in Severity, Comorbid Conditions, and Impairment from Childhood to Adolescence.

An international Cognitive Disengagement Syndrome (CDS) Work Group noted it remains unclear whether CDS worsens or becomes more impairing with age, which we tested in community and referred samples. Mothers rated their children on the Pediatric Behavior Scale (assessing CDS, ADHD, autism, oppositional defiant disorder, conduct problems, anxiety, depression, social impairment, and academic impairment) in a community sample (N = 376, 6-12 years at baseline re-evaluated a mean of 8 years later) and a referred sample with autism and/or ADHD (N = 1,601, 6-17 years). In the community sample (Study 1

Recent Advances in Psychological Interventions Targeting Cognitive Dysfunction in Adults with Major Depressive Disorder: A Systematic Review.

Major depressive disorder (MDD) is a frequently occurring and impairing mental health condition marked by cognitive deficits in several areas, such as attention, executive functions, information processing speed, and memory. It is noteworthy that while affective symptoms of MDD tend to subside when the depressive episode is resolved, cognitive impairment frequently persists and increases the risk of relapse. The present study systematically collected and assessed evidence from the past 10 years of randomized controlled clinical trials targeting cognitive deficiencies in adults with MDD through

Mental Health of Ukrainian Adolescents After Russian Invasions.

IMPORTANCE: Russia first invaded Ukraine in 2014, annexing the Crimean Peninsula and occupying parts of eastern Ukraine. On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a full-scale invasion that is currently ongoing. Despite the chronic nature of the armed conflict, evidence of its cumulative impact on adolescent mental health since 2014 remains limited. OBJECTIVE: To assess the prevalence of wartime traumatic stressors, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms, depressive symptoms, and suicidality and to examine the differential associations of war exposure with adolescent mental health. DESIGN

Integrating Gait With Multilevel Scale Representations for Depression Severity Prediction.

Depression is a severe mental health disorder with significant emotional and physical impacts. To identify and assess its severity, self-rating scales are commonly employed, which evaluate depressive symptoms through a series of questionnaire-based items. While these scales provide valuable subjective insights, gait analysis has emerged as a complementary, non-intrusive method for depression assessment, offering objective perspectives on an individual's mental state. Existing studies primarily use scale scores as ground truth while overlooking the semantic richness within the scale content. In

Interpretation Issues With the Patient Health Questionnaire Instructions.

IMPORTANCE: Versions of the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ) such as PHQ-2, PHQ-8, and PHQ-9, are among the leading assessment tools for depression in research and clinical practice. However, important questions remain about its validity, particularly whether responses reflect symptom frequency or the degree to which symptoms are bothersome. OBJECTIVE: To investigate how participants respond to the PHQ, described as a severity measure by its developers, with instructions about being bothered by symptoms and response options focused on symptom frequency. The nature and nurture of primary and secondary callous-unemotional traits: evidence from two independent twin samples.

BACKGROUND: Callous-unemotional (CU) traits identify youth with more severe and chronic trajectories of conduct problems. However, the etiology of CU traits may be heterogeneous, undermining the search for effective treatments. The level of co-occurring anxiety has been used to identify "primary" (lower anxiety) versus "secondary" (higher anxiety) variants of CU traits. The primary variant has been hypothesized to emerge from strong genetic influence and secondary variants as an adaptation to adversity, such as exposure to childhood maltreatment. However, little research has tested this hypoth

Daytime and nighttime heatwave intensity and acute care utilization for mental and neurological disorders in California.

Heatwave exposures have been linked to a variety of mental and neurological disorders. Little is known, however, about the potentially differential associations of daytime versus nighttime heatwave intensity with subtypes of mental and neurological disorders. In this time-stratified case-crossover study, we estimated and compared the associations of typically dry daytime and typically humid nighttime heatwave intensities, characterized by heatwave indices (HWIs), with acute care utilizations for various subtypes of mental and neurological disorders in 1412 ZIP Code Tabulation Areas in Californ

Universality classes of Anderson localization transitions in disordered three-dimensional non-Hermitian systems with exceptional points.

We conduct a numerical study of wave localization in disordered three-dimensional non-Hermitian systems featuring exceptional points. The energy spectrum of a disordered non-Hermitian Hamiltonian, exhibiting both parity-time and parity-particle-hole symmetries, forms a cross in the complex energy plane, with an exceptional point fixed at the origin. Near the exceptional point, the system undergoes a disorder-driven quantum phase transition from extended to localized states, which is characterized as an Anderson localization transition in non-Hermitian systems. Notably, we identify a universal
