Building Resilience in Emergency Care Teams: A Narrative Review of Team-Based and Organisational Strategies for Nurses and Allied Health Professionals.

BACKGROUND: Emergency department (ED) nurses and allied health professionals (AHPs) face persistent occupational stressors that threaten workforce sustainability. Burnout prevalence exceeds 50% among ED nurses, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) prevalence among paramedics ranges from 11% to 37%. Despite growing research interest, the team-based and organisational resilience-enhancement strategies targeting both ED nurses and AHPs have not been comprehensively reviewed. OBJECTIVE: This narrative review synthesises current evidence on team-based and organisational resilience-enhancement

Novel AI-Assisted Quest-Based Therapeutic Framework for Enhancing Engagement and Executive Functioning in Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD): A Case Report.

Youth with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) may experience persistent barriers to engagement in individual psychotherapy despite adequate pharmacologic treatment and evidence-based therapeutic content. Existing gamified approaches often rely on fixed protocols, specialized materials, or group-based formats to address interfering symptoms such as distractibility, low frustration tolerance, and difficulty sustaining mental effort, with mixed feasibility and clinical outcomes. This case describes a novel, individualized gamified intervention designed to address limitations of exist

Identification of structural disconnection subnetworks in acute and subacute post-stroke depression.

BACKGROUND: Post-stroke depression (PSD) is common after acute ischemic stroke, yet its neural substrates remain unclear. This study identified structural disconnection subnetworks associated with PSD and evaluated their association with depression severity and topology. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed 615 first-ever acute ischemic stroke patients. Depressive symptoms were assessed with HAMD-17 at baseline and 3 months. Individual 135 × 135 structural disconnection matrices were constructed from acute DWI lesions (MRI median 3 days post-stroke [1-4]) and HCP-842 normative connectome. Net

Temptation as a key driver between affective states and usage outcomes of problematic usage of the Internet: A 14-day ambulatory assessment study.

Theoretical models of problematic usage of the Internet (PUI) assume that stress and negative mood can trigger cravings and desires as central drivers to use certain online applications that are expected to provide pleasure and relief, which increases the likelihood of use. Learning and reinforcement mechanisms can result in increased and uncontrolled Internet use, that manifests itself in the form of, for example, neglecting important areas of life like relationships or work. To test these associations in a natural environment, we conducted a 14-day ambulatory end-of-day assessment together w

Navigating Mixed-Neurotype Dialogue: Environmental and Affective Influences on Autistic Speakers.

In this reflective report study, we examined communication challenges for autistic adults by examining the influences of emotional state and environmental context across neurotype conversation partners. Using the Neurotype Communication and Assistive Technology Survey (NCATS), we surveyed 165 autistic adults (18-35 years old) and analyzed 154 responses to capture both quantitative ratings and qualitative descriptions of past contextual conversations. The majority of the participants noted that environmental factors, such as crowdedness, noise levels, and familiarity, at least somewhat impacted

Effects of Remotely Delivered and Web-Based Interventions on Depression Severity During the COVID-19 Pandemic: 3-Arm Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted a critical need for effective population mental health approaches to target the most prevalent disorders (eg, depression) during periods of elevated community distress. The effectiveness of remotely delivered and web-based interventions should be investigated to identify and innovate high-quality models for population mental health service delivery. OBJECTIVE: The primary objective investigated the effectiveness of adding Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy for Resilience (MBCT-R)-a live, online, synchronous, remotely delivered, group-based interv

Psychological Impact and Quality of Life in Chronic Psoriasis Patients: A Mixed-Methods Study Combining a Validated Researcher-Developed Questionnaire With In-Depth Patient Narratives.

BACKGROUND: Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease associated with a significant physical and psychosocial burden. It adversely affects not only the skin but also psychological well-being, social functioning, and overall quality of life. Although quantitative assessment tools provide valuable estimates of disease burden, they do not fully capture patients' lived experiences. This concurrent mixed-methods study aimed to explore the impact of chronic psoriasis on psychological well-being, quality of life, and coping strategies among affected individuals. METHODS: A concurrent cross-se

Co-designed yoga nidra targeting anxiety in autistic children: A mixed methods feasibility study.

Autistic children experience disproportionately high rates of anxiety, yet common interventions such as cognitive behavioural therapy and traditional mindfulness practices may be less effective due to their cognitive and abstract demands. Yoga nidra, a form of guided meditation using concrete visualisations and breath awareness, may offer a more accessible alternative. This mixed methods study evaluated the feasibility and pilot efficacy of a co-designed six-week online yoga nidra intervention targeting anxiety in autistic children aged 8-14 years. Neurophysiological and psychological data wer

Childhood trauma, specifically emotional abuse, is associated with psychiatric symptom severity in drug‑naïve first‑episode patients with schizophrenia.

Schizophrenia (SCZ) is a highly heterogeneous disorder. Childhood trauma (CT) is a well‑established risk factor, although the contribution of specific CT dimensions remains incompletely understood. This study systematically investigated which CT dimensions were most strongly associated with symptom severity in drug‑naïve first‑episode SCZ patients. In a cross‑sectional design, 284 patients were classified into a SCZ‑ct group (n = 234) and a SCZ‑nct group (n = 50) based on Childhood Trauma Questionnaire. Symptom severity was assessed using the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale. Hierarchical

Empathic Accuracy and Behavioral Empathy After a Moderate Dose of Beer.

OBJECTIVES: Empathic accuracy (EA) represents a person's ability to correctly infer the emotions of another person. One past study in men found lower EA for positive emotions after a moderate dose of hard liquor compared to after placebo, particularly among non-hazardous drinkers. The present study aimed to replicate this finding, using a moderate dose of beer and a mixed design. Moreover, we added a novel measure of behavioral empathy. METHODS: Participants (62% men) completed the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test, Empathy Quotient, and Revised Drinking Motives Questionnaire. Before

Understanding positive affect in Angelman syndrome: Smiling and laughter across comparison groups.

Angelman syndrome (AS) is a neurogenetic condition marked by frequent smiling and laughter. Early descriptions portrayed these expressions as inappropriate or disconnected from context, but recent work has questioned this view. This study examined the emotional responses of children with AS to auditory, tactile, visual, and social stimuli and compared them to typically developing (TD) children and children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Using Bayesian mixed-effects models, we analyzed behavioral ratings and Facial Action Coding System (FACS) data. Children with AS showed more frequent po

Turkish adaptation study of the Metacognition Assessment Scale-Abbreviated in psychotic disorders.

BACKGROUND: Metacognition refers to the ability to recognize one's own and others' feelings and thoughts and to utilize this information to develop and understanding of oneself and others. Given that metacognitive deficits are considered a key treatment target in schizophrenia spectrum disorder, the availability of reliable tools to measure these skills is essential. As an interviewer-rated scale, the Metacognition Assessment Scale-Abbreviated (MAS-A) offers advantages over self-report scales in assessing metacognitive capacity. This study aims to evaluate the validity and reliability of the T

Sex-specific patterns of symptom burden, psychological distress, and work productivity impairment in post-acute sequelae of COVID-19: a 10-month dynamic cohort study.

BACKGROUND: A considerable proportion of patients experience post-acute sequelae of COVID-19 (PASC). Increasing evidence suggests sex-related differences, yet systematic longitudinal analyses remain limited. This study aimed to examine sex-specific differences in symptoms, psychological burden, work productivity and physical activity over ten months following acute COVID-19. METHODS: In this prospective, dynamically enrolled cohort study, patients with ongoing symptoms after confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection were followed over a 10-month observation period. Menstrual cyclicity of cannabis use: a longitudinal study using phase-aligned cycle time scaling (PACTS).

BACKGROUND: Despite rising rates of cannabis use and cannabis use disorder (CUD) among females, research on female-specific implicated factors remains limited. Emerging evidence suggests that substance use behavior may fluctuate across the menstrual cycle, particularly among individuals with premenstrual disorders (PMDs). However, findings for cannabis use are limited and inconsistent. The present study aimed to investigate menstrual cyclicity of cannabis use likelihood and quantity, and potential implicated factors. METHODS: Naturally cycling individuals with diagnosed or suspected PMDs were
